Greetings fellow rpg'ers So, I'm new to virtual D&D (not new to PC rgp's and PnP D&D). My ONLY exposure to D&D has been AD&D back in the day and 3/3.5 That being said (after watching several videos online watching people play) how is the experience of it all? I know a lot of it depends on the DM and his/her creativity and the people in the group. My fears/concerns..... Douchy DM's/players. I'm a goofball but when I game I don't want to spend hours on hours telling toliet humor jokes, listening to someone's story about Mittens their cat or someone's marital problems. I've played in groups before that are friends, and truthfully, I don't enjoy it. Too much time chatting and not enough dice rolling. I'm not anti-social, but I game to game, not to BS. I'm hoping there are mature "head in the game" DM's and players? What is the protocol for new players trying to find a good group? I don't want to be "that guy" that finds he doesn't like a group then vanishes right in the middle of a mind flayer attack :) Visual stimulation! This is what keeps me (mainly) from PnP these days. I'm old enough to remember gaming with a sheet of paper and a pen, but since the internet and all these flashy tools that are at our disposal I've become such a visual creature. I like miniatures, colorful maps, 3d terrain, and loud flashy lightning bolts (not the ones directed at me). How does D20 "look" and feel from a gamers (not a DM) perspective? Appreciate any feedback or comments. I'm off to watch some more videos on Roll D20! Adios!
