The Premise Autumn
1938. A contingent of civilians along with the No. 504 Squadron RSF (Royal
Space Force) are enroute to Victoria Station aboard space cruiser HMS Kitchener . The mission: bolster the
British presence on Mars in face of renewed German settlement efforts and act
as deterrent against the growing threat of Martian sky pirates. Then, one week
out from Mars orbit a mysterious
message on the interplanetary emergency frequency is intercepted. The Game Looking
for 4 players for a dieselpunk space pulp game using the Ubiquity/ Hollow Earth Expedition rules and focusing on the Revelations of Mars supplement. The core Hollow Earth Expedition rules, Secrets of the Surface World , and Revelations of Mars books will be the most featured but I own the entire Exile Games line of books. Imagine if
Space:1889 was set in (or continued into) the 1930 or 1940s. Players can take
on a wide variety of archetypes (I'll provide suggestions) as members of the Royal Space Force or
colonists going to Mars under the command of the Ministry of Space (yes, named for the comic, but not in that setting).
No
prior rules knowledge necessary. GM will run a character creation session prior
to play start. This will be a short campaign with one story arc. A follow up is
possible if there's demand and interest. Experienced
GM. I've run and played probably 20+ sessions with Ubiquity. I'm the author of the HEX character sheet. Voice over Roll20. Video optional. Time Fridays 8pm Eastern
(GMT-4) time zone. Frequency based on players/GM schedule, but aiming for bi-weekly minimum. You
Are
a mature gamer ideally 21+. The game itself isn't going to be covering any
"R" rated topics. I'm just looking for players who are mature from a
play and cooperation standpoint.
Ideally,
you've played something before in a modern genre, but that's not a
pre-requisite. Just know that this isn't D&D with guns. You prefer to play
a character concept that fits the game scenario rather than trying to min/max a
build.
There
are plenty of games for those who like min/max combat builds where the session
pivots around killing your way out of successive encounters and taking stuff.
This is not that game. You will most likely not have fun if your preferred play
style is to wait for the "RP stuff" to be done so you can get to the
killing. GM/Play Style I
tend to create games that include PC and NPC interactions and provide
encounters that usually don't require
combat to resolve. Fights run judiciously are exciting, but fights as the
reason for gaming can be done better by video games. Active players with
characters that fit the premise and find ways to get their characters involved
will have the most fun. My job is to set up a scene with possibilities. Your
job is to advance the overall story, as well as your character's, in a fun
cooperative manner befitting your concept. An example:
GM:
Two rocket Nazis are plummeting out of the sky towards you just as you step out
onto the sidewalk.
As
the plucky kid reporter being pursued you: Stop and fire your revolver
at them hoping to get lucky. Try and jump onto the running
board of a passing car to help you flee faster. Shoot the gas tank of a
parked car you ran past hoping a ball of fire will deter the flying nazis Pull out the swastika arm
band you got from your last encounter, give the Nazi salute when they
land, and explain in your best German that the suspect went "that
way."
Players
of many games I've been in choose "a" - even if their character build
and backstory would indicate "b" or "d" as their best
chance of escape. I encourage people to add to the scene. In the example above
the GM doesn't meticulously describe everything on the street. Plausible player
assumptions about the environment such as a street having cars can be made (and
encouraged). The more awesome, exciting, or fun sounding (without making a
scene an automatic win) the more likely it'll get added. Application Let me know if you've had any experience with Ubiquity games and Hollow Earth Expedition in particular.
