Hello beautiful people of roll20, as of today I'm starting up an Other Dust game! The system's looked fun for some time to me, and rereading through it after seeing a couple things recently, I just have a massive desire to play/run in the world. And as I don't think there's much chance of playing in the desired setting, I've decided to take to running again! Onto what's happening: System : Other Dust, a system that is VERY similar to Stars Without Number Time : 600 PS ingame and Saturdays at 6 PM EST - 10 PM or further (depending on players) irl. Starting either next Saturday or the Saturday thereafter. However, if schedules permit, I'd like to talk with everyone (together) before the scheduled date to gauge what everyone wants from the game. If not, whatever, we'll just do it then and move onto character creation aswell. VoIP? : Yes, we will be using Skype for comms, so mic required. Cam not required in the slightest. New Players?: Totally allowed, I'm new to running Other Dust, but I've run two "three" of Stars Without Number, spanning probably around 20-30 sessions of between 4 - 8+ hours each. SWN and Other Dust are similar, but this is a comparatively stationary game where you will be more or less confined to one world as opposed to having an entire sector/universe at your fingertips. The World : Terra, post "Shattering". We'll be using that phrase instead of "Scream" for this game. For more information on the lore/backround of the world, refer below. Who the hell am I? : I'm a rather reserved guy, but when I ST/GM/DM/SM/potato I tend to be talkative, forward, and really just want to present y'all with a world to interact with in whatever way you please. I've been running games for around 3 maybe 4 years. Typically my games have lacked combat in an extreme (for SWN atleast), but this depends heavily on the players. If the players desire combat or run into it, it will happen. If they desire RP, RP happens. Anyhow, moving on, as mentioned, I'm not very knowledgeable (yet) about all of the Other Dust rules, but I've fairly extensively played SWN and reading through the Other Dust PDF it feels very natural, with a slightly higher player power level, but an overall toned down system with survival elements built in. Talking about ingame issues for a moment: If something comes up and I'm not sure on a rule, we'll house rule it and move on unless someone/I can find the rule within a minute or so. If it's important we'll spend more time however and make sure someone's not being screwed over. What do I expect?: I expect you not to be a complete asshole and to talk to me immediately if anything comes up. If I, or someone else, describes something and you're not OK with it, such as spider-y BS, excessive gore/torture/sexual nonsense/etc, msg me or say something and we'll fade to black/move on. You're not here to be uncomfortable as hell. Also, if you need to leave/not be here let me know ASAP and as far in advance as possible. Things happen, life goes on. However, If it happens too many times, you may have to be replaced for consistency. I also expect you to be honest when I ask you for a "how'd the session go" msg. The Story: Year 600 Post Shattering Location: Moria Village, Terra. 600 years… The Shattering destroyed the world and brought death to everything. Spiraling cities became graveyards, and the airs were barren of all but scavengers and smoke. But from death, comes new life... The sprawling and high reaching cities of the Ancestor’s have overgrown and brought new life to the world. Humanity, once on the brink of extinction has clawed its way up the cliff, but is still on the ledge. You and your tribe have lived in the Nasq Valley, sheltered from the expanse of creatures and ARKs living beyond your village, since before the Shattering. But none of that matters now. Whether because of a desire to explore, something told by a village seer, or something else, you and a small group of your tribe-mates are planning to leave Moria Village to go in search of what’s out there. So, who are you? What do you search for, Terran? Whether you look to be a survivalist, skull bashing raider, smooth talker of bandits, a technician, or just want to look for answers in a lost world, you’ll find your fill on Terra. Further world backround: This is the world of Terra from the SWN/Other Dust story. Differences being that instead of a normal post-apocalyptic and grim environment, we have a world that has regrown. While your civilization has regressed in technology, it is still capable of understanding technology and building great things if given the resources. However, these resources are very scarce and normally only acquired in very small number from dangerous salvaging runs from ruins or ARK hunts. The ARKs. What are they? Well, few know really when or where they came from anymore, but they’re robotic animals and creatures that are the primary inhabitants of Terra in the current age. They have been around atleast since the Shattering, a disastrous event that killed the Terran Empire, the Ancestor’s, and drove all of the Seers of the world mad. Other things to note: * Space travel is something only rumored in this day. * There ARE others who live in the wilderness outside of Moria Village/Nasq Valley. There are bandits, and loners. Whether or not all of them are down to talk or are even (still) human is another question however. If all of the above wasn't enough for you, and you still want to know more, feel free to ask me questions or check out the segments below World Backround on this LFG listing . I did try to go over as much as I could think about in this post, but I may have missed a few things. I did copy-paste the Story/Backround bits though. Edit: Because somehow this actually just hit me that I should say this: I will be running this as a Sandbox Style game.
