Having returned from the expedition to the Fey Isles, Ferhem used the next few days to reflect on the adventurer's life. He noted the high impact that the death of one bearer and one adventurer had had on the party, and how everyone had wanted to honor their memories. He remembered the sad expressions on everyone's faces as they realized that not much could be done without a body. Ferhem realized that there was a need for adventurers and commoners alike to be able to honor their dead, regardless of whether there was a body or not. Since his patron wasn't asking anything of him at the moment, and because he was particularly interested in the subject of death, he decided to start a funeral house. The funeral house will offer the standard services of cremation, burial and open-casket services but also a special service called Remembrance, which would be a kind of ceremony where the image of the deceased would be conjured up and everyone who knew him would have a chance to say a few words. He spent two weeks making a business plan and researching, and this is what he came up with: Having 117 gold pieces, he needed to: - Find a place that he can rent in a nice area to conduct the business. -- For this, he would find someone who's renting their place who looks like a pushover (rolled 20 on Perception, 17 on Insight). To lower the prices, he will deceive (critted 25 on Deception) them into thinking that the place is cursed. To do so, he will tell them that he heard a legend about a graveyard buried under their floor and that there might be retribution from vengeful spirits. If needed, he will subtly suggest he will spread rumors of this story to others. To further lower the prices, he will offer to pay rent in advance (or if they are too scared and want to leave the place, he will happily take over/buy it from them). - Furnish the place and acquire the items needed to run the business: caskets, urns, crematory, freezing area, what have you. - On top of this, buy or have crafted a safety door (magical if possible) that will separate the funeral home into two areas: The work area where all the bodies and the money are kept and the reception area where people are received. he will intimidate (rolled 17) whoever's selling or crafting those (or will order the construction of one) to get a good price. - Finally, because Valmari people are obsessed with the past and they will want crypts, he will either buy old ones and have them restored, or order the construction of some in a local graveyard (whatever is cheapest). Then, he will make sure than some crypts are more majestic than others, and will create different tiers of crypts to cater to the Valmari's need to revere their ancestors. Since Ferhem is going to be adventuring a lot, he would like to hire someone to run the business in his stead: he will contact his patron and ask him to find him someone who can do this. This person should be some sort of magician able to conjure up the images of the dead from their material possessions and also from descriptions in case there are no items. If this person is also familiar with the legalities of running a business that'd be great. Otherwise, he will ask his patron to find him someone else who can deal with paperwork. As for the rates of these services, Ferhem, with the research he did, will set them at the standard rates of other funeral houses. The funeral house will be called Remembrance.
