creating/editing Character Sheets without Pro?

Hi,

i recently started to play the Song of Ice and Fire RPG on Roll20. The Character Sheet is awful. It's a real mess to play with it. So I thought i might make a neat Sheet out of it and push it back to the community. Though, I am not a Pro subscriber to Roll20. So I can't use the Roll20 built-in feature. I'd just fork the roll20-character-sheets repo, make my changes in the character sheet and do a pull request.

Will it work like this without much problems?

Best Regards,

Marco

Hi Marco, that is totally possible... the only issue you'll face is that since you won't be testing it in a live Roll20 environment you'll potentially have to wait for your pull requests to merge each time in order to see the latest incarnation and make your next changes.

However that isn't to say that you can't find a helpful pro user who will 'collaborate' (read, help test) your code in a more realtime way in order to get a finished article merged at the first try? Or check out this thread where I believe a user created a mock Roll20 test environment for local testing.

This is possible as Ziechael said but it's a PITA frankly, especially if you want to use advanced characteer sheet feeatures like sheet workers and roll templates.
Because you won't be abled to test it right away and have to wait for a buddy with a pro account to let you test on one of his campaign, or wait for the next official update ...
I won't recommand it.

Hi Ziechael & Natha,

thanks for your reply. i'll check out the mock, i don't wanna test on "production" blind coding is always meh. i don't really understand why roll20 doesn't make developer accounts for api and sheet creators, like where you can code and test stuff but not actually use it in your games unless you're pro subscriber. that would be nice.

Best Regards,
Marco

Sounds like it would make an excellent suggestion if one doesn't already exist and fFor your suggestions, we offer the Suggestions & Ideas forum, which is based on voting from the whole community.

Please review our Forum Voting wiki page for more information on how voting works, and our Suggestions & Ideas Posting Guidelines for the added expectations above and beyond our standard Code of Conduct.

That actually sounds like a great suggestion for the Suggestion forum.  The other option, if you have a bit spare cash, is you could upgrade to Pro for a month to develop the character sheet.  Sounds odd, paying to help roll20 out like that, but I'm really I initially joined the Pro subscribers just to create a character sheet for my game...then liked the features (like the API) and just keep the subscription.

EDIT: I see I should have refreshed... :)

@Ziechael there's a similar suggestion in the thread with the mock you linked me. (https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/3117039/character-sheet-editor-like-jsfiddle) i think i'll just comment on that.
