Storm King's Thunder

Is it assumed that we also own the hardcover for this? As there seems very little detail for the 1st chapter "A Great Upheaval"

All the text from the hardcover is in the Roll20 version. The thing that can take a minute to wrap one's head around if they're used to running adventures from the book is that now everything is hyperlinked instead of caption boxes or on the next page. In example, with Chapter 1, it says you're going to Nightstone, and it tells you where it is, why the party could be going there, etc. If you click on "Nightstone" you get flavor text for what it looks and sounds like, all the features of the area, and so on. It's a HUGE pile of information. Instead of being laid out chronologically in a book, it's now linked in a fashion that allows you to jump back and forth. While that can look odd at the outset, in practice it means way less railroading / much faster jumping around information. A player asks about one of the things you've mentioned, and you can swing to it in a flash. I think we'll see people who want the hardcover as well in order to read from "cover-to-cover", but in no way is it necessary.
would it be possible for you guys to put out a cheaper option that is just the maps and maybe the tokens for those of us that have the book?
Zozic said: would it be possible for you guys to put out a cheaper option that is just the maps and maybe the tokens for those of us that have the book? Not sure. Truthfully, it is nothing we've explored. That said... I can't imagine a package of 200 tokens (particularly if we kept the stats on them) and 40 maps going for much cheaper. If you look over the Roll20 Marketplace, it's not at all uncommon for a pack of about 25 tokens to go for $5 or a half-dozen full maps for $5, which if we added up in this case would be more than $49.95. As it stands, this is a really great price for loads and loads of content. And like many of the tools we offer, one doesn't need to use every single piece of it to get the value out of it.
What about maps that dont have the grids hardcoded onto them? It is a major disappointment to turn the grid opacity down only to see that the source image itself has the grid lines on them. Is SKT intended not to work with the 5e shaped sheet? Some things transfer over but spells certainly do not. Also a major bummer.

I'm a new user and will be running a group through this campaign via roll20. I'm assuming that purchasing the hardcover does not give me access to the assets on roll20?

Correct. I explained it to another users as the difference between buying a book and buying a DVD of the movie version. Neither one is required to enjoy the other, but each is it's own purchase.
@ The Aaron Thanks. Cancelling amazon order and buying from roll20.
Hi guys, just bought the Roll20's SKT module and I am loving it! But one thing I missed was the character creation part of the adventure, as they had with Hoard of the Dragon Queen and Out of the Abyss where it informs possible bonds and other background options tying the characters to adventure. Where can I find this? Thanks!
I'm a little confused by what's happening with dynamic lighting in SKT. According to the STK page, 22 pages have it, but I can't find more than a few. For example, Ironslag Lower Level has it enabled, but I don't see any actual dynamic lighting work done. Am I missing something? Thanks!

We recently updated the module to correct the dynamic lighting on two pages that needed it. When the edits were patched in, it apparently deleting all the dynamic lighting drawings on the rest of the pages that had it. Thank you so much for asking about this so we could catch this! We rolled the module back to a previous backup. If you make a new copy of the module, you should see these pages with dynamic lighting set up: Nightstone Dripping Caves Zephyros Tower Eye of the All Father Dragon Cult Airship Grudd Haug Upper and Lower Deadstone Cleft Yakfolk Village and Ironslag Upper and Lower Svardborg Lodges Lyn Armaal Levels 1, 2, and 3-6 Maelstrom Levels 1, 2, and 3 The Grand Dame The Morkoth (Spoiler)'s Lair 1 and 2 Update: We went about updating anyone's campaign that had been created when that change was made live yesterday. Dynamic Lighting should be in place now for those who had it missing.
Thanks Kristin! I thought I was going crazy!
So how are the maps in this compared to the books and are the letters and numbers in the GM layer so they won't be seen by players? Next is how large is the overland map as I have seen a couple reviews say it is to tiny to use and wondered how Roll20 and that other VTT made theirs useable. Thanks Man I am really tempted to buy this but for those two questions above Thanks Tom.

The maps are the same original artwork used in the books and have GM information (like where traps are, and room numbers) on the GM Layer just as you'd want it. Where possible the tactical maps maintain a 5' grid with the artwork scaled if it used a larger scale (10ft): The overworld map (The North) is very detailed. Here it is a part of it at full zoom: It's over 1400 miles corner to corner.
Howdy, new user and I just bought Storm King's Thunder and am planning on DM'ing some friends through it. Still learning how to use Roll20 and I have a question about Dynamic Lighting. Does the module come with it (as part of the module purchase) or do I need to purchase the Plus subscription to use Dynamic Lighting?

Got it, thanks Aaron, that pretty much seals it for me. I just wish Pathfinder would start trying to do the same things with their AP line as well Tom

is there a way to import the maps and characters into another campaign? I have a main game I have been running for a few years by now that has all the stuff, npcs and music accumulated :D

You can use the Transmogrifier (A Pro Level Perk) to move all the maps, handouts and pages to an existing game. Short of that, you can use the Character Vault to transfer characters to an existing game.
Curious. It looks fantastic and a sample package or demo wouldn't hurt. Im tempted to buy this over the book if it really is this detailed. Is there a video showing off the features perhaps somewhere? In context, the reason why im skeptical is because I did all of this sort of before for curse of strahd and found that with sheet updates and api updates etc your work can quickly become moot. New functions get added that you want in this. Will Storm King's Thunder be regularly updated?
Hey guys, I just wanted to say that the integration of this module into Roll20 is amazing! As a DM, this has saved me soooo much time. Continue releasing content like this and I'll keep buying it! Great work!
I just bought SKT the other night, and as a DM, I'm really, really happy with it. IMO, it's worth every penny. With the hardcover books I was constantly flipping from section to section, as one section would have info about a character, then another section would have more info. You've hyperlinked it so it's easy to get back to. THANKS!! One suggestion: on the Nightstone battle map, is it possible to move "Dripping Caves" text and accompanying arrow (see the top / north end of the map) to the GM layer? The other text (Ardeep Forest and Trade Way) seems appropriate on the Token Layer, but as the PCs only find out about the Dripping Caves through exploration / interrogating the goblins, it seems like a spoiler to start it on the Token Layer. Thanks for considering!

Hi Brett! I'm glad to hear you're really enjoying Storm King's Thunder! Regarding your suggestion, do you mind reposting it on this thread: https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/3909756/storm-ki... I'm trying to keep critique and issues in the same place. It makes it easier to track and patch them later on.
