[5e Shaped] 6.5.1+

Athleon said: Took a peek in your test game, and my initial thought was: what if you added the spells (and moved the spell slots) to a 4th column next to traits? In conjunction, make all 4 columns equally wide so that they fit nicely in a 2x2 format when you condense the width of the window. Damn he beat me to it!  I was coming here after looking around the test campaign to say just this.  I like your concept....but I think the position of it should be BELOW the weapon attacks and equipment column, not above them under the HP and Hit Die column.

See the 5e paper sheet . Spells are placed where they are to mimic that. People will always have different opinions. The goal of this sheet is to add functionality while mimicking the look of the paper sheet. There will be some divergences, but it should be pretty similar. Columns will inherently be of different heights simply due to content. Trying to make a 2x2 grid wouldn't line up so well. For actual characters those with many spells will have very few weapons so that area will be reduced, and vice-versa.
I have a request concerning the Temp HP field.  Is there a way to make this like the normal HP field where it has ??? / ??? instead of just a single number?  This way when I connect 'Temp HP' to a token bar, it fills out the bar with 10 / 10 instead of just a number with no bar. Damn that came out rough....did that make sense?

You either have temp hp or you don't. It's not a continuous resource like hp is. Having 2/8 temp hp doesn't make sense as you can never replenish those hp (you can, however, set a new temp hp level by acquiring more). Beyond that having to first set the max and then the current each time you get temp hp would be bothersome. I could potentially always set the max to the current, but that would just give you a full bar. Temp HP in a bar doesn't really make so much sense from what I can see.

6.8.0 (2016-10-15) Features Refactored the settings page a bit Moved some items from "API" to relevant categories. Spells can now be toggled off under "Display" "Show spells on the core page" can not be toggled off in the same area Psionics added to houserules which adds 2 classes to the class list (Psion and Soulknife). Also adds a new section on the core page which contains psionics. Custom classes added (adds Summoner to the list) Spell filter names revamped a bit to share between spells and psionics - let me know if anything is not working for spells. Entering edit move expands the header upward to prevent a jump in the page as the repeating classes takes up 2 lines. You'll still have a jump if you have multiple classes. Weight is shown on the non-expanded version of attacks, armor, and equipment
Showed my players the new sheet on the test campaign. 0 of 3 spellcasters said they'd prefer spells on the core page, so toggle for that sounds nice. I also got feedback that 0 of 5 players liked not having a tab to isolate equipment. They like having equipment and emcumberance on its own tab. Maybe a toggle there too? Having character level changes at the top of the core page was liked by 5 of 5

Equipment tab is gone for good. It functions the same as attacks which has functioned that way since the beginning. So I fear the reaction may be a factor of disliking change for change's sake. Perhaps not though. Either way Equipment one is definitely gone.

Totally possible on the "disliking of change for change's sake". I run into that all the time on design projects. I'd tend to agree with them about the spell sheet however, that at higher levels when there's a lot of options, it's a nice UX to scan them in multiple columns.
When do you think 6.8.0 will be pushed to the Roll20 users as "default"?

Ya, I doubt I could remove the spell page even if I wanted to as NPCs need it. I included the toggle to remove it for those who don't want it on the core page. @Jason: Probably 2 or 3 weeks. Since you're Pro you can use it now. Time frame depends on the number of Pro users and reports of bugs.
So did some small testing, things seem pretty good.  The toggle for spells tab and spells on core is very handy.  There is one concern though with how this is implemented.  Tracking spell slots from the core page is handy, but as it is setup now, there is no way to have the spell slot tracking on, but the spells list off (making it similar to the behavior available on the current live sheet).

Why would you want to track spells on the core page, but not be able to use them? I assume they use chat macros and then only look at the core page. Blaaaaaaaah. At a certain point customization has to stop and this feels like it's over that line of commonly used option.

Hehe, sorry.  Basically I was looking at workflow (how players in my campaign use the sheet) on the new sheet vs. live sheet and functionality is different, so pointed that out.  Though, I have to say, I am warming up to spells on the main tab using condensed view and filtering what is relevant.  Also, the reality is once the companion has spell slot tracking the concern disappears. Edited for clarity and additional point.

Ya, I understand the desire. I'd rather just give these kind of ideas some time before implementing removal of features because people don't want them. Generally people will discover they can be useful. I only put in the removal of spells as I'm working on my homebrew psionics stuff. If enough people want spell slots, but not spells I could add a toggle, but I'd really like to avoid a toggle for everything. And if this desire will go away when we have auto spell slot usage then I'd rather focus on that w/ Lucian.
Looking over what is there in 6.8 it seems good. The my biggest concerns with how it was first described was that the spell tabs was going away and things being to cluttered, and while I think there are cluttered with spells on core, I think its fine with the new toggle. Equipment seems a bit annoying to deal with considering how compact it is now but that is minor and could even be addressed if needed. The only thing I completely dislike is spell slots not being on the core page when spells are turned off. I don't like spells taking of the space on the core, but I still want to be able to track all resources on the core page without having to waste clicks to do so, even knowing how many spell slots I have now would add unnecessary clicks to the UI. Under the old/live one, having the slots on core, and editable allows for viewing and tracking and being able to click spell slots/points output the chat macro meaning I only needed to spell page for details, editing, and the like. This is the one change that I would rather use an older version of the sheet for as the toggle for spells on core solves my issue with clutter on core by spells but removes actually useful information. So just the spell slots being gone as well when toggled off I rather dislike, every other change I feel is good or am neutral about as I am just not use to the change but see its usefulness.
Thanks for the great new character sheet.  I was testing the new spells on the core paper and I tried to add a new spell but a new blank line did not appear.  I do not know it nothing happened or it a line appeared but it was visible because the field did not excepand.

I'm on mobile so I'll be brief: turn off spell filtering. There is a message there in edit mode reminding you to do so. With it off you should be able to see them.
Something I noticed setting up a new character on the most recent sheet, it does not appear to populate the total spell slots for the arcane archetypes (Arcane Trickster).

My overall impression of the new sheet design is very positive. I like having the spells on the front page. If you are familiar enough with your character's spells to filter it down to only those prepared, and in the condensed setting, they fit very nicely indeed. I would love the ability to similarly condense the Traits and Abilities section. Compact is better. What would make it even more useful if there were the ability to expand or collapse a single ability or spell from a list. Sometimes, I'd like to see what the thing does without invoking it, scrolling through the ability's four-line box, or going to the spell page. If there were a little toggle to expand or collapse a single item (or to just send the text to the chat log without using it), that would be great. Of course, this is just wishing for the moon. I greatly appreciate the work you continue to put into this sheet. Thank you.

6.9.0 (2016-10-17) Features Warlock max spell level is now ordinal (5th-level for example). Upgrade script included Warlock spell slots and max level now appear in the spells macro There is now only 1 spells macro, instead of one for spell slots and one for spell points. I ran out of time, but I'll add points to this macro. As well as another color for prepared, but do not have slots for the current level Adjusted what spells are shown in the chat macro. Now the levels will show if there are higher level slots available. They'll also show if the warlock's max level is greater than the spell level. I still need to adjust how the ones on the sheet are shown for cases like a barbarian having a spell, but no slots. Removed toggle for showing unprepared spells or not. Lots of smaller adjustments on things like spacing or where the weights appear for equipment Other minor psionics changes that I'm sure only I care about Bug Fixes Widened abilities a bit to prevent wrapping on chrome on mac. I also cut the names off now if they overlap. Widened skills a bit to prevent wrapping as well. Haven't tested yet. Bonuses tooltip on the settings page now faces right Added text shadow to the title of hearts as there is a known issue for quite a long time about how fonts (the hearts in this case) are rendered on different browsers. I tried a while ago to change to SVGs, but rol20 doesn't allow those. Centered spell slots on the Spells page Thanks to Aaron for finding the bugs on chrome for mac. Hopefully we can solve a few more.

Adding the ability to expand or collapse one item would be difficult unless I just do it on mouse hover. Also keep in mind you can expand the textareas by dragging them out (at least in chrome)

I was wondering, like in the former 'Shaped' version, if you could bring back the tool tip that popped up when you hovered over the core stats like Wisdom, Strength, Intelligence (i don't remember if there were tooltips for skills like nature, animal handling, Athletics).  I found those to be SUPER useful.  BOTH as a DM who sometimes needed on the spot checks and couldn't pick the best one; and for my my players who sometimes aren't sure what the best skill is for a situation.  This also helped me set which ability certain Custom Skills would be based off of. Sure...I could go flip through my PHB until I found the relevant page, but the tool tip on mouse over was considerably helpful. Did you remove that feature to make room for other things?

Thanks for making the Warlock cast-at-max-level optional! That will really help my Warlock player who uses her spell sheet for wands and such, that may not always need to be cast as 5th-level spells.

Can you please provide a link to the 6.5.1 version of your character sheet?

I diagnosed the issue with spellcasting on classes. It'll be fixed in the next version Regarding tooltips: I'm not 100% sure why I removed those. They are in the free rules and could be translated (might have been, actually). I've lost some history on those files though. I expect I made that decision as the clickable area is the words so you'd have to see the tooltip whenever you click which can be annoying. I can't detect if the user hovers there for an extended duration like I can with javascript. Personally I'm a bit skeptical about adding tooltips for the above reason. Also skills are one of the most commonly altered rules in the game. You'd want them then some would want to customize them then we'd have to set it up in the script, etc. I'm actually one of those people:  my skills include things other than the PHB. Not sure what the best course of action is here. TheWebCoder said: Thanks for making the Warlock cast-at-max-level optional! Ya, the warlock max level should now be in the query of spell levels instead of being the only option. And warlock spells appear in the spells chat macro now. Lots of improvement for warlocks. :) @Michael: I only store the latest version of the sheet. Any old editions are purposefully lost.

I have a stylistic suggestion. As it is now, spells on the spell tab mimic the look and feel of the spells as printed in the PHB spell write-ups. As such, they look jarringly out of place when using the same style sheet on the Core tab. Generally, when a character is published in a WotC book, the spells are merely listed out in non-bolded italics in the body copy. That might be going a bit too far, but perhaps some medium, like the bold of an Action title might work. In any case, the maroon small caps style doesn't sit well on that front page of the character sheet. It gives them confusing prominence.

Here's an idea that I don't know if it's easy, possible or desirable, but: Currently, clicking on an ability uses or activates it. Perhaps instead of some kind of toggle set it up so that clicking on it gives the normal expected behavior, but shift -clicking instead sends the relevant display text to the chat window? This would allow a player to quickly reference a spell or ability before deciding whether to use it.

Spells can expand on the core page. As long as that remains the styling must remain. I have no control over shift clicking or anything of the sort, unfortunately.

On the 'Attachers' in the options tab (these sort of replaced 'passive' Class Actions)  I noticed everything is here except specific skills like in the old sheet.  This helped with particular passive abilities like if you have Advantage on Athletics while raging, or can hide only when lightly obscured as a Wood Elf.  Instead of making a passive ability that shows up whenever you use ANY skill, bring back the more accurate skill list to add attachers to.
