On Inspiration

Inspiration, in case you guys don't know (and why would you? I haven't been using it! :P ), is a mechanic meant to encourage above-and-beyond character efforts. The idea is that Inspiration is something you have or you don't -- you can't collect and save Inspirations, you can have one, and you can cash it in whenever you want to grant yourself advantage on a roll. Then you don't have it anymore...till you do something awesome to get it again. I am granting everyone Inspiration retroactively, so you all currently have it. You may use it to give yourself advantage on a roll, or may use it to give one of your party members advantage (or an enemy disadvantage). Or.... I was just messaging with Raynor about one of his ranger skills and whether he could use his two attacks to use the skill twice. According to the RAW, he cannot...but I think that's just the kind of thing it would be cool to use Inspiration for. So I'm not restricting Inspiration to mere advantage/disadvantage, oh no. You can use Inspiration to bend rules, create new ones, maybe even break them if the situation calls for it -- momentarily, of course, but the point of Inspiration is to use awesome moments to fuel later awesome moments, and my favorite part about D&D is that it transcends numbers with narrative. So if you've got Inspiration, do something inspiring! I can't allow it to be all-powerful, of course, but I'm hoping you guys are pleasantly surprised with how far I let you take things when you fuel them with Inspiration.

And in case you need reasons... Sigrun  gets Inspiration for her prayers to Sune and consistent, exceptional roleplaying and worldbuilding. Elvalur  gets Inspiration for leading the wildly successful infiltration of Cragmaw Castle, as well as taking the fight to the enemy in critical situations in Cragmaw's chapel and backed against the wall of the orc cave at Wyvern Tor. Raynor  gets Inspiration for holding on to Mirna as she dangled over the crevasse, taking stabs from the Redbrands and a grievous wound from Zaradur's axe. Helm gets Inspiration for his deadly one-two strike on the charging owlbear of Cragmaw Castle, essentially ending a dangerous battle before it even started.  Zaradur gets Inspiration for smashing goblins with a tab...trying to flip an alt...bodily carrying Naer...horrendous spear thro....hell, you  pick something! I'm gonna go with "just being Zaradur." Naeris  gets Inspiration for consistently roleplaying her sociopathy, yet genuinely surprising the hell out of me when she chose her friends' well-being over the allure of personal power.
Aw, that's really nice and super awesome! I love everyone's reasons for having inspiration!  I love this game so much.
