The mist of Ravenloft lifts players in and out of my realm; it justifies our disbelief as we are whisked away to another place sometimes in the middle of another fight only to return as if from a dream to only a moment having passed. ₻ Take advantage of the rebuild options available to characters below level 5.  ₻ I don't have an issue with you producing a rebuild after a long rest. If you're not happy with your character take a nap wake up 8 hours later and be who you want to be. When rebuilding you keep the name, background, equipment, and XP; this is a rebuild of the numerical abilities but you're still the same you; just evolved. You may get into a game where everyone brought a vengeance paladin. Although you'd all have a righteous time against sword enemies but that group isn't optimized for many missions. ₻ After level 5 rebuilds aren't as easy so take advantage of it now to explore what class you enjoy the most. Tips for Low Level (or any level) Play. ₻ Adventuring is a dangerous profession. Here are some tips that will hopefully help to keep your characters alive to enjoy the treasures they find. 1. Have a magic weapon or at least 1 character who can cast a magic weapon spell. Silvered weapons only cost 100gp to apply to a weapon. Have at least 1 character who can turn undead. Have at least 1 character who can cure wounds. Have at least 1 character of each of the 4 major classes. Corollary to all of the above: Have at least 1 cleric!!! 2. Have someone who can get the cleric up as first priority when they need healing. 3. Never rush into combat if the party as a whole possesses a range advantage. Corollary: carry a good ranged weapon even if it is not your focus 4. Cantrips are pretty easy to get in 5e and can be cast all day long. They can be flavored up with just about any aesthetic properties you like. If you have 6 characters who can rebuild at the end of a long rest there’s no need for everyone to have the same damage type or have to completely worthless spells during their adventures. 5. Stay together. Inside of combat and outside (until the fireballs start flying, that is). 6.₻ Focus all attacks on one opponent until he falls, do not spread out attacks. (If your party kills 4 fighters at once on round 4 of a combat they will have taken more damage than if they kill 1 fighter on round 1, the second on round 2 etc.) 7. Carry as much adventuring equipment (ropes, spikes, holy water, antivenom, etc.) as possible. 8. Never rush headlong into an unknown situation. 9. If you kill something, search it for treasure. If it has no treasure, search its lair for treasure. If you are not in its lair, try to follow its tracks back to its lair and search for treasure. 10. Roleplaying earns inspiration. If I haven’t noticed your good interactions during the role play section please point them out to me to be sure you never go into a fight without the power of inspiration. Ideally, everyone would always begin with inspiration. Because we all like to gain inspiration we ask if you can get your camera working. It will be much more interesting later on twitch.tv. Players who have characters more charismatic than themselves may use perform to attempt to gain inspiration once during a short rest. 13. If we have more than 6 players arrive for the game we will see if we are able to accommodate as many as seems reasonable at that time. I can’t imagine 20 players working together in D&D as we did in online games. The limit is at the point where the roleplay suffers or degrades too slowly clicking buttons. So keep it fun, fast and easy. (Adventurers’ League) ₻ As of this time I have not been able to find any rule requiring any player to have only one character. In an evening where we have less than 6 players, you may bring two characters as long as there are no more than 6 characters at any time. If the party is APL 1 and there are fewer than 6 characters bring along an iconic character NPC (it does not reduce your experience or gold but does count towards the 6 character limit). (Ravenloft) Feel free to have the Ravenloft Backgrounds. ₻ You may also use the optional Supplement linked in the post above. Be prepared for abilities to be nonfunctional once cut off from the power of the mist. When outside the power of the mists, Ravenloft denizens often take advantage of adopting their alternate identity as just another of a Charlatan's cast. These Ravenloft charlatan's rebuild often creating yet another false identity. Should I be incorrect about anything I shall endeavor to bow to RAW/RAI and official errata.
