11/27/2016 Campaign 02 Season 01 Episode 09

c02s01e09 - Cyran's buried Dark Magic Lab = Super Fun! day 24 continued.... Welcome new player Jared to the table, playing one of the characters from Team10 .. half-orc monk/barbarian The team needed some extra muscle to move merchandise out of the facility to their home fort.  Plus the extra muscle proves very timely. Continuing through the facility.. lots of traps.  lots of locked doors. 1st thing Tug gets scared alone in the halllway between the tport lab and the armory... running to Frank for protection, they find a dog sized spider creeping around so they kill it... at the end of the dead end, they find mayonaise-like webbing secreting through the bottom of the walll-- indiction of a secret panel that the spider triggerd to open-- the team eventually figures out there's a floor panel in the room beyond that when pressed opens the door.. but the room is COATED in webbing.  as wlll as a cracked roof with water pouring in, digging a channel to the southern corner of the room, pouring down a 20 foot tunnel into ... the underdark?   No time to think--lots of spiders. fire to burn the ebs and close the door behind them... they'll come back to that later. Continuing on into the armoury, they check the doors and find they all dead -end into silt and rock collapse from above.   -- interesting to note that these coordinates would have been under nice farmland in Cyre... but it's all salty sand like in the now-present salt plains.   This is actually very significant, because everyone has assumed Cyre has VANISHED.... but this is an indication that to at least a certain degree; it's been BURIED.  hard to say how much of it is still here or actually gone... but this is really big news.  Especially to the remaining cyran population that's been relocated to the Darguun island.   anothye rsecret door reveals a tomb partially collapsed with sarcophogi the team leaves be.  Lots of demon faces in the walls, and a full statue of Kazarak.  Turns out that's a secret door hidden by illusion. Room beyond is a prep station for sacrifices.  more demon faces etc.  with murals of hideous dark aats as part of rituals. In the next room is a blood altar and duplicate sarcophogi in the previous room.. a blood elemental defends the altar, but the team cleans it up. The sarcophogi have magic wapons on them, and the accompanying murals show off cyran generals of legend using big bad magic items to clean up enemies.   These are likely those magic items, but they all reek of evil.   Time will need to be taken during down time to fully identify all of them, but there's a Flying Sword, a Mace of Annhilation, and a Staff of Darkness. This room is a historian's dream come true! opening the sarcophogi triggers a door to open letting some undead knights into the room to attack but they get cleaned up easily enough. more dead end hallways ends in a toilet of disintegration that Tusk climbed down.  necro damage = yuk. Without another clear path of travel, the team backtracks to the webbing room with the water creack in the ceiling.   No spiders remain... problably escaped down the tunnel.. but there's lots of humanoid corpses with bone armor and weaponry laying around.. look athaisan. Also, the walls in this chamber are covered in murals with maps to the multiverse... an inner planar map, an outer planar map, and a third map marking locations to cyran pocket planes as well as a roadmap to Kazarak. 5 locations total for the team to explore if they want to dive into hell directly. (group concedes, "later") a side chamber has black thick goop that seems to have acidic qualities that petrify whatever is dunked in it.  They dip the dead crab they got in the hall, and it petrifies.  (worth noting, the petrification wares off after 20 minutes) The team collect a few samples of the stuff for analysis.   next room is filled with slaughtered Athasian Saurans... large hulking komodo dragon - like desert lizard men.  bone weaponry, armor.. some of them have bellies bursted open with smears of blood heading back towards the webbing room.   From there, rooms branch off into a kitchen, a large barracks with some scattered gems and ancient coins, and a third room that is a well-stocked tinker lab.  A number of gizmos are found operational as well as plenty of resources to build more stuff.  (that's three tinker labs found so far.. 2 here and 1 at the cragwood fort) Beyond the barracks is some sort of administration office with rotted otu furniture and a room full of pews with a bloody red fountain that stiks like death .. 2 blood elementals fight the team, and when they kill them, they rinse down the drain, recyle, and spit back out of the fountain spigot.. they keep attack ing until the team lures them out of the pool and dispose of them proper. time for a break-- frank gets attacked by a wandering tentacle robot, but otherwise the team is able to burn rituals for a full reheal before continuing to explore the rest of the facility. end of session ----- time spent in game... about 3 hours 1/3 to level 6 loot acquired ---------------- 2 samples of petrifying goop 1 magic sword - evil, with platemail of gold 1 magic mace - evil, with platemail of silver 1 magic staff - evil, with chainmail of platinum 1 favor worth of gems and old cyran coins map of cyran planar strongholds 1 more tinker lab worth of spare parts 5 tinker tech gizmos -1 large self-propelled cart -1 spikey head cage "helm of horrors" -1 remote controlled goggle spider -6 brain needles -1 palm-sized soap pump
I missed this in the original post above, so I'll add it.. Rogar is triggered when he sees the ritual murals and sacrifice murals in the compound.. remmbering his own time as an operative up to 4 months ago. Memories of his own rituals, his own commitments to faith, and his own acts of evil to gain position in the cyre military in his younger days, before the convergence of Athas with Eberron.
