Greetings everyone, This will be a “A Song of Ice and Fire” campaign. Emphasis of this campaign will be on roleplaying. This also means I will very much take into consideration player backgrounds, personalities and stories. So it very important for players to create interesting characters (more details in “Player characters” section below). This campaign will contain mature content. Following is some detailed information on the campaign I am planning to run. Setting and Campaign: All players are a member of a noble house in the Seven Kingdoms. The house will be created by the players from scratch, however, with some restrictions from the basic rules (e.g. your house will be based in the Westeros continent and be restricted from some of the major houses). The campaign will start in the 195 AC just before the First Blackfyre Rebellion. It will generally follow the lore established by GRR books but will not block players from changing or influencing the canon lore events, major or minor. Of course, I will urge everyone to abstain from metagaming considering the books and the tv series. The campaign will mostly be open ended meaning it will be a sandbox game where I will provide circumstances and let players act on them and suffer / enjoy the results of such activities or inactivities (e.g. an unhappy banner lord or bandits pillaging the trade road through the house's domain). Of course, I will also provide background plots and more straightforward plotlines for players to follow, but it is entirely upon the players whether they will follow such plotlines or not. The plotlines will be of my own devising as well as from the published resources (so I hope you haven’t read or played much of the published stuff, if you have, do let me know). These plots will not necessarily follow the GRR lore, primarily to combat metagaming. The idea is to create a creative and interesting roleplaying sandbox for the players which will enable them to increase their house's fortunes in the Seven Kingdoms. After player’s house is created, I will provide detailed background on the house, history, map of the holding and the household, info on the head of the house, friends and enemies and general relation with other neighboring houses. Timetable: The initial idea is to run a ca. 10-20 session campaign with an intent to stretch the game further into a longer lasting campaign. This will depend primarily on the player's will to continue on (the so called fun factor) and then on the time I have at my disposal to prepare. The general idea is to have 1 session / 1-2 week time but this might vary primarily dependant on my own time and the players availability to play. In other words, we could have 2 session a week or extraordinarily 1 session a month if unfortunate circumstances dictate so but I will do my best to avoid having long stretches of time without play because players tend to lose interest. But, as mentioned, intent is to have at least one session per 2 week time. Session will take place mostly during weekdays in the evening hours but could happen during weekends as well if we agree so. The timezone is CET so bear that in mind, European based players should hopefully not have problem to follow up on this. Session will mostly last for several hours (3 hours or more) but we could also agree on a longer player session hours (e.g. during weekends). The house creation session will be held quickly after all player slots, or most of the them, are filled. Time and date will be provided on the Campaign Roll20 web page. First ½ of the First session: House creation and player's selection of the role they want to occupy in the house (this can be changed before players do create their characters) Second ½ First session: Player creation session (only if there are players unfamiliar with the character creation rules) Second session: 1st gameplay session (within one week after house / character creation ends) Third session and so on: As agreed on the previous session (at least once a two week time) Between session a discussion will be created on the Roll20 game page for (role)playing by post. Such side gameplay will be incorporated into the regular session. In addition, there will be an off-topic discussion present for making off-topic discussions, organizing and a place to make general plans and strategic decisions. And finally, one discussion will be open for making short transcripts of what happened after every session. Every session one willing player will make a short chronicle of the session. Players can change in doing so if they want. The chronicle player will, in turn, receive a small character development boost (experience points) at the end of the next session. The size of the award will depend on the player’s effort. Player characters: Players are free to create their own characters using the basic the rules. If you don’t have the rules or are not familiar with them, I will hold a player character creation session as well. However, it will be very important that every character takes a role in the house. Some roles can be taken by more players, but would discourage that in favor of variety (e.g. vassal knight, commander, bard, paige, sibling to the heir). Other roles can be taken only once (e.g. heir to the house, maester, septon, master at arms of the house). Finally, some roles can also be combined (e.g. a relative to the house lord occupying the role of a house’s master at arms). All roles will be chosen during character creation session. Until that time you can think about how you see your character and what roles interest you. To this end I am providing an open ended list of possible roles in the house, if you have other suggestion feel free to suggest them during house creation session: Heir (Male) Sibling to the House Heir (Male / Female) Relative to the House Heir (Male / Female) Master at Arms Commander of a House Army Unit Vassal Knight (Hedge / Anointed) Maester Castellan Septon Master of the Hunt Master Blacksmith Master of the Horse Kennel Master Scout / Hunter Officer of the House Guards Squire Paige Bard It is very important for every player character to have a nicely done but realistic background incorporating / explaining character’s personality. Character’s backgrounds should also strive to enable me to incorporate the character’s story into a possible future plotline that might involved other players as well. This will make the campaign more interesting to that player and hopefully to other players as well. It will also provide a way for player characters to develop beyond the initial setup. Since this will be pretty much a “roleplaying” game, emphasis is on having well rounded and interesting characters. Internal character stories should be kept a secret as well as their motivations, goals, virtues and vice. A topic will be provided where it will required from players to provide a short public version of their character story to enable everyone else to get to know their fellow player's character. I also thinking about to enable everyone to make two player characters instead of one, but we can discuss and make a decision on this before character creation. This should disable splitting the group and ensure that players are always present in every storyline. Player selection: If you are interested in joining, make an application in the topic below. When applying, please use the format provided and take note of the requirements. Knowledge of the system or roleplaying is not required, also no knowledge of lore is required, although I guess this will normally not be the case. Out of all the players that applied, I will make a selection. Idea is to have at least 4 but generally no more that 6 players. Sweet spot will be 5. This will enable us to hold session even if 1 or 2 players are unable to attend. GM/NARRATOR: And finally a bit about me. I’ve been roleplaying from my high school days (some 15-20 years now). Over the years been running various campaigns in various systems, e.g. (DnD 3.5 and 5, Merp, Rifts, Vampire the Masquerade, Call of Cthulhu and SW:Edge of the Empire). With that in mind, I tend to have emphasis on roleplaying in my campaigns. This would be my first time running the ASOIF campaign and my first time running a game on Roll20. In addition, I am not a native and active english speaker so please bear with me, it might take a few session for me to get into my sweet spot with the language. The same applies to Roll20 and ASOIF game rules, where I hope some of the players will be familiar with the system and the RPG rules could help out if the need arises. ------------------------------------------ Application: Required from players: Must be 18 or older; Be willing to roleplay your characters; Be willing to use microphone, no video required; Be willing to use alternative communication methods (e.g. skype) for solo sessions during regular session (will try to keep these to a minimum but under my experience they seem inevitable); Be on time when game starts or report ahead if you will be absent or being late; Be respective to other players out of character and to the GM/Narrator; Voice your concerns to the GM/Narrator regarding the state of game and/or actions of other players; Be willing to create new character after death (accidents unfortunately happen); Be willing to make short chronicle of what happened during last game sessions on Roll20. Application form: How old are you: How familiar are you with roleplaying: How familiar are you with the Green Ronin’s ASOIF RPG system: How familiar are you with the GRR Martin’s Game of Throne setting: What kind of character would you generally like to play in this campaign: Can you create your ingame character by yourself: What timezone are you in: If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to ask.
