5E Community Sheet

Hey everyone, I've been on Roll20 for close to 2 years, the majority playing 5e and, to this point, have ALWAYS used the 5e Community Sheet. It has been the most flexible and easy on the eyes of any sheet I've ever worked with on Roll20. However, with the Compendium features out, some in my group have wanted to move to the OGL sheet, due to having the ease of the Compendium auto-populating information (the biggest offenders being spells for the casters). In our experiments with the OGL sheet, though, every single one of my players save one says it makes their eyes bleed with its design and UI (and many of my players have formal education in these fields). I don't say this to insult anyone involved with the OGL, but simple features (like the interface seen in the Community Sheet's Class tab, which let you interface a certain ability when a specific action is taken, like making a melee attack or rolling for initiative) would go MILES,  as well as changing the sheet  to not involve three clicks anytime you want to cast a spell or make an attack. I know the OGL and Shaped sheets do get regular updates and, hopefully, one day they might be a little easier to use - I've said to my group that the OGL sheet saves you time up front for more time down the road (with a lack of automation and confusing sheet behavior). But is there any effort to pick up where Actoba left off and possibly incorporate the 5E Community Sheet with the Compendium? To me, that would be the ultimate of all worlds. Thanks in advance for anyone who is able to answer.
With the Monster Manual coming out I would love to see the drag and drop integration added to the Community Sheet. I have been using it in an ongoing campaign for two years as well and it's been great. I do have test campaigns with the other sheets and they do certain things well, but I can't do everything I want because the flexibility isn't there.  I know Actoba is out there, but he has stated that he is too busy to take on updating the sheet, I totally understand that. So hopefully someone else will step up.

If there is desired functionality that is missing from the Shaped sheet I can consider adding it if you propose it. I believe everything that the community sheet can do is covered.
Everything the OGL can do shaped can do better and more. I would recommend your group giving shaped sheet a try. All of my players that have tried a piece of shaped never wanted to go back on other sheets.
We have a preference,  it's not a competition.

If there is flexibility missing as mentioned above I'd like to add it. What are you unable to do on Shaped? As far as I'm aware the same flexibility exists via freeform and freetext fields on the Shaped sheet.
Hey Kryx, it's obvious he doesn't want to use your sheet. So go play in your own thread.

Let's keep things civil and on topic. Kryx is asking for feedback in order to potentially improve the shaped sheet's functionality which may actually help the OP to make a decision. Should the OP not wish to respond that is their prerogative.

I normally wouldn't post it in here, but Ed said that he did not have as much flexibility on the Shaped sheet that he currently has on the community sheet. I wish to rectify that if it's truly the situation.

I'll be honest, the advantage Actoba's sheet has over say the others was that it was easy on the eyes and self-explanatory even to new users. It was easy to customise for users who had no concept of macros etc either.  However, what you are asking for "but simple features (like the interface seen in the Community Sheet's Class tab, which let you interface a certain ability when a specific action is taken, like making a melee attack or rolling for initiative) would go MILES," Already exists in 5E-Shaped by Kryx. He has one click initiatives, Melee Attacks and the ability to make custom macros all in the same relevant areas. You want spells and attacks to be a single click? Thats easily done on shaped, you just need to be willing to dive into it. Your players will have to be willing as well. I'd say as a GM is to go make an executive decision and make them try the new one for a session. I understand you have a preference for Actoba's sheet but his goal was simplicity from the discussions I remember with him on the forums. He was not really aiming towards any automation what so ever. I suggest if you want any functions you found appealing on Actobas sheet to be seen on 5E shaped, that you just ask Kryx. He isn't some Otyugh thats going to rip your face off if you ask. He tries his best to put everything in when he does this mostly for free! I hope this clears things up for you Ed.

I was simply letting him know he is not alone in wishing that the 5E Community Sheet had the compendium integration. I do follow the Shaped Sheet's threads along with the OGL's. So I am well aware of what is available and what they do. I even sated that I have test campaigns running both sheets. There are some design decisions on those sheets that I don't agree with but they aren't my baby, so I can let it go.

Ed S. said: I do have test campaigns with the other sheets and they do certain things well, but I can't do everything I want because the flexibility isn't there. I responded to your post because of the flexibility claim, but it seems the sheet doesn't work for you due to personal choice.

Forgive me for this mistake.  I wish you luck on your pursuits :)

Sorry for the lack of replies on my own thread here, was prepping for last night's session any time I was on Roll20 the past few days... I haven't given the Shaped Sheet much of a try, I will admit, so I am unfamiliar with the limitations or benefits of its usage. Just looking at the picture provided in Roll20, I assumed it was very similar to the OGL Sheet, as both have the visual appearance of an IRL paper character sheet, which was tasked with cramming everything onto one easy piece of paper, not really a concern in a digital venue. And since I didn't see much to give the impression there would be macros or the ability to hook up abilities, I (unfairly) dismissed it. I wasn't even aware the Shaped Sheet had Compendium capabilities, so this will definitely give me incentive to try it out. Thank you everyone for the replies!
