The United Systems League (USL) is ruled by emperor Lin Da or Erik Lin, English taken name, formally titled the eternal emperor and elevator of humanity of the known universe. 林 ( lin ) 大 ( da ) All of the hundreds of explored and colonized systems are run through a feudal chain under his reign. Direct feudal obligations come mainly from the 13 kingdoms under the empire. Eight kings and 5 queens rule these kingdoms respectively. There are those that have titled themselves noble that have become immortal through clone and nanotechnology. There mind is moved to a younger enhanced body making their effective mortal life easier with each new enhanced cybernetic nanotechnology or genetic enhancements. The emperor was the first to use this technology and now is rumored to be over 2,500 years old. The known universe is run under the emperor through the United Systems League. The league is provided fiefdoms and legislates what limits those below the emperor. The cloning technology for the serial lives is limited to just those granted a USL recognized noble title. There are five kings and four queens that have positions on the league's security council. A little history Long ago on Terra gravitational polarity was discovered after a large accelerator after a series of experiments in Europe changed the polarity of parts of the continent making entire cities and mountains fly off into space from the sudden change in gravity polarity. It was the largest human accident. Accelerator experiments dealing with the sub-atomic physics that allowed the anti-gravity are now illegal. The G corporation is the only provider of anti-gravity solenoids. They are manufactured far from planetary systems. The monopoly for the anti gravity solenoids has made the G corporation the largest corporation in the known universe. A charge ran from the solenoid allows the anti-gravity polarity to be temporarily shifted to the connected material. This technology is the cornerstone of planetary and interplanetary travel now. Present Background The league of system lords is the legislative body of the United Systems and Planets. Each system within USP is linked by Faster than Light Communication network. A series of space stations with transmission cannons at low to zero gravity points in those different systems is how most communication is submitted. Each planetary body that has a large population has a large message receiver station. Gravitational waves disrupt the distance of different parts of the quantum messages sent through FTL and so need large antennas with powerful internal sensors to detect the transmission. Powerful computers with communication algorithms than are used to rebuild the messages and then transmit using light or radio broadcasting within the system. The more gravity that has affected the message the more the message is diffused and the greater the chance of the message integrity being compromised. Jump gate stations are also stationed far out from where the gravity waves would disrupt the gating of interstellar ships. Gating requires a to and from gate to transport a space ship. The gating technology also relies on anti gravity using some gravitational lensing effects to both transmit and receive effect material through instantaneous travel. This allows for what they call meta absolute reference gating. FTL communication transmissions are made between the stations synchronizing the push and pull allowing the two gates to connect and send space ships through one direction. Without coordination the meta absolute reference would not be achieved. A less reliable way of interstellar travel uses relative reference gating. This is how the stars get explored. A spaceship outfitted with the anti gravitational lensing tries to get the quantum mechanics to dematerialize and rematerialize starship from it’s current location to another star system. Many of these spacecraft don’t make it as the math, the unknowns and that relative reference gating is more sensitive to gravitational waves flowing throughout the universe disturbing the influx point making rematerialisation sometimes spread the original space ship across the stars rather than as the original cohesive piece right where it was plotted to go. So many of these just ships don’t make it. A very expensive endeavor but the only way to explore and incorporate stars into USL. Even after thousands of years of space humans remain alone as intelligent life. Where most of the trillions of subjects of USL are enslaved, indentured or serfs tied to a land that nobles fight over to relieve their boredom. This is the united systems league where nobles get licenses to conduct war on each other, massive space stations populate many systems and man has been able to reach the stars. Your team is comprised of "free men" though those in the group so far have gone for some interesting flaws. The group is a band of mercenaries on a Goliath invasion class ship. D6 is a system made by west end games. They made star wars and was pretty popular back in the day. They created an open lic version and it is a fairly quick system to learn and use. I'll be using D6 Space with modifications as I see fit.
