This thread acts as a master list of downtime activities that can be performed between adventuring. We can also use this thread to resolve expenditure of downtime points for players. Players can make their requests for spending downtime here. Please refrain from using session time to resolve downtime activities unless your DM specifies otherwise. Check the downtime log to see how much downtime you have earned. You can only earn downtime up to the current FR date of your most recent adventure (do not use the total at the top). The FR date should be listed in the game Scehduling thread, or ask your DM. You can see how much downtime you have here: Experience and Downtime Log Lifestyle Expenses See page 157 of the Player's Handbook for details on lifestyles. Note that many backgrounds dictate which lifestyle your character should have. A PC must pay his/her lifestyle expenses at the start of each month (lifestyle expense X 30), lifestyle expenses are recorded in the Experience and Downtime Log . Starting PCs unable to pay this amount may pay the lifestyle expense at any time during the first month. Other factors may increase the character's lifestyle expenses beyond what is shown on the table. For example, running a business as shown on pages 127 and 129 of the DMG. Buying Magic Items Magic items can be very difficult to find, but not impossible. Acquiring a magic item can only be done through a DM. Browsing Local Shops: Using this technique, you are simply looking to see what is readily available instead of something specific. Common uncommon, rare, and very rare magic items that are available in local shops (if any) are listed in the Experience and Downtime Log on the Magic Items Available tab. Acquiring an item may be further restricted by your location. You might spend time browsing only to discover that an item you are interested in is located elsewhere. Your DM may rule that you must spend downtime to browse local shops. Finding a Specific Item Listed in the DMG: Common, uncommon, rare, and very rare magic items can be purchased by spending downtime. Legendary items and artifacts cannot be bought by using downtime. You must spend an amount of downtime as shown on the table below to search for a seller. To find one, you must achieve an Intelligence (Investigation) check at the DC shown. Another PC helping (also spending the downtime) grants advantage on the check. If you succeed, you are able to find a seller after spending your downtime. Rarity Downtime Investigation DC Common 1 day 20 Uncommon 10 days 23 Rare 30 days 23 Very Rare 30 days 25 If you fail the check, you do not find a seller after spending your downtime searching. You may then repeat the process. If you are able to find a seller, have your DM roll a d100 on the following table to determine the seller's ask price. This roll is modified by the item's availability. Item Rarity Ask Price Modifier Common +10 Uncommon 0 Rare -10 Very Rare -20 d100 + Mod. The Seller is asking for... 20 or lower twice the market value 21-40 150% of the market value or 125% of the market value with strings attached 41-80 125% of the market value or at the market value with strings attached 81-90 the market value 91 or higher 75% of the market value Crafting See the thread Special Equipment, Crafting Guidelines, and Submissions for instructions on crafting items. Most of these are listed in the campaign journal. Gaining Renown A character can spend downtime improving his or her renown within a particular organization. Between adventures, a character undertakes minor tasks for the organization and socializes with its members. After pursuing these activities for a combined number of days equal to his or her current renown multiplied by 10, the character's renown increases by 1 (It takes 5 days to reach renown of 1). If you took the Faction Agent background, you gain renown 1 for free, See the various organizations for benefits of renown. Practicing a Profession You can work between adventures, allowing you to maintain a modest lifestyle without having to pay 1 gp per day (see chapter 5 for more information on lifestyle expenses). This benefit lasts as long you continue to practice your profession. If you are a member of an organization that can provide gainful employment, such as a temple or a thieves’ guild, you earn enough to support a comfortable lifestyle instead. If you have proficiency in the Performance skill and put your performance skill to use during your downtime, you earn enough to support a wealthy lifestyle instead Running a Business If you PC has inherited a business or wishes to open one, use the table on page 127 of the DMG to determine the increase of your lifestyle expenses for operating a particular business. You can then use downtime as describes on page 129 of the DMG to operate that business. Selling Magic Items (DMG pages 129-130) Common, uncommon, rare, and very rare magic items can be sold by spending downtime. Legendary items and artifacts cannot be sold by using downtime. You must have at least 10 downtime days to search for a buyer. To find one, you must achieve an Intelligence (Investigation) check DC 20. Another PC helping (also spending the downtime) grants advantage on the check. If you succeed, you are able to find a buyer by spending downtime as follows (dependant on the availability of the magic item): Common Uncommon Rare Very Rare 1d4 days 1d6 days 1d8 days 1d10 days You may attempt to find a buyer for multiple items during the 10 day period. See the example in the DMG. If you fail the check, you do not find a buyer after 10 days of searching. You may then repeat the process. If you are able to find a buyer, have your DM roll a d100 on the table on page 130 of the DMG to determine the buyer's offer. This roll is modified by the item's availability. DM Option: Any magic item sold may become available in a shop in the city somewhere. Any DM that decides to use this option should add the item to the "Available Magic Items" tab located on the Experience and Downtime Log . The item's list price must be either what the item was sold for or the seller's ask price, whichever is higher. Training First, you must find an instructor willing to teach you. The training lasts for 250 days and costs 1 gp per day. After you spend the requisite amount of time and money, you learn the new language or gain proficiency with the new tool.
