* * * RECRUITING IS CLOSED FOR THIS GAME * * * New Player Friendly. If you are new to roleplaying, or want to experience horror roleplaying, this will be a great start. Oubreak: Deep Space is a gritty realistic Sci-Fi Survival Horror RPG that allows you to experience a nightmare world in the realm of Deep Space. Created using the same gritty, deadly, and unforgivably lethal settings that you’d expect from the creators of Outbreak: Undead. The setting will be the year 2369. Humanity controls many hundreds of worlds, and has a limited star drive. The TransStellar, LLC Mining Corporation is looking for spacers to man the crew of the "SS Prospector" a new class of mineral survey ship working the Varala Drift on the Spinward Frontier of the Orion Galactic Spur. The planned 1st mission is going to be very dangerous, with hazardous duty pay for each crew member. This will be a voice game, ran via roll20, using discord for voice chat, and a text thread for between game posting of journals, thoughts, etc in character. The game theme will be very dark Horror & Survival, in the far future. Imagine Call of Cthulhu style play, facing death or insanity, crossed with "Event Horizon" "Pitch Black" or "Alien" the movie, but not with those ships, those aliens or those film series. Player characters are definitely expected to die, become critically wounded, or go insane, but will be able to be replaced from a limited pool of pre-generated characters as other ships and situations are encountered. I plan at this point to run a mini-campaign of this about 6 or 7 sessions. More if the players want to continue. I will have a pool of pre-generated characters ready , or ambitious players can roll their own, with or without my assistance, but any character generated has to meet with my approval, so shoot me a concept first, please. If you want to play a puffy suited clown with psionic powers who has a bicycle honka horn, who likes to be annoying, do not bother replying. We will need serious minded : Co-pilot, Astrogation, and Command Staff Combat Arms (Former military veterans) Engineers, Repair and Maintenance Technicians Excavation and Demolition Specialists Medical Staff (Medic or Surgeon, & Counselor.) Scientists (Geologists, Xenobiologists, etc.) I do not have .pdfs to share , do not ask. I got my book from here. http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/112204/Outbrea... I have a few players interested. No experience with the system necessary, but players must get along and work as a team , period. This is going to be serious, mature adult behavior and in character immersion required. Actor / Roleplayer or Intrigue / Puzzle style players will work best, I think. Probably a mix of male and female players will be in the group. Acting appropriately scared will be required as befits a horror-themed game. I am running this for the experience of playing in a horror themed game, period. If you are not going to buy in to that, you are going to be wasting your time applying. More updates as I continue to pull this together.
I am still pulling this together. What it is... is a mission oriented game, with a descriptive narrative, like a film, with rising horror action. The thing itself is heavily plotted, like a boardgame simulation, for each session, in that you will start with the situation already developed. As the game progresses the party moves through encounters that could cause damage, fear, psychosis, or result in gear or things to help. The group will have primary and secondary objectives, and also ways to do side missions, or pick up extra gear or whatever. Hard to explain, but it works a lot like Imperial Assault the board game. So in that way, it is like a sci fi dungeon crawl. The map and choices are limited, but the group as a whole gets choices. The exploration map of any ship is broken down into encounter areas, like Engine Room, Medical Bay, Bridge, Cargo Bay. The group decides based on what they know and the route, how to proceed. If they find gear, gear up. If they meet resistance, they can fight or try to avoid, or outright flee. If they flee, though, the group can completely avoid an encounter, but it makes it easier to get ambushed in the next encounter, because they are not careful, running headlong into it. The Space Map will be a series of planets to visit, with sub choices on most worlds. Overall, there is time pressure to get stuff done, nothing like just sitting around, resting up. Very few chances to rest or heal up. And the overall narrative feel is backed up by tension, fatigue, injuries, loss of cohesion and composure, as the combat system is lethal, and the scenarios are relentless, once the action starts, much like a film like Alien or Aliens the films or Pitch Black, or Event Horizon. Most characters will die or go insane, as in Call of Cthulhu, but the trick is knowing that going in... and still playing. I am generating a pile of player characters. A limited pool of replacement characters will be available as we go, since we will expect to lose a lot of characters.
I have 10 players showing passing interest. I am going to close this in 12 hours.
Sent a message. I'm very interested in playing.
Okay with that, recruiting is closed. if players drop, I will open it up again. Thanks to all who viewed this.
