
c02s04e02 summary - Beneath Spider Crag late afternoon day 81 khyber, Spider Crags. Having destabilized the suspended boulder in the spiders' webs, the momentum of the falling stone cleareed a swath of webbing down to the base f the cavern, full of oil and decomposed ancient meal leftovers. The team kept the skiff high to avoid slithering black ooze lying in wait under the still surface of the flammable fluid. Few hours later and the floor of the caver4n rises like a crest; the spider's territory giving way to open air in the chilly underrealm. Water falls from the ceiling thousands of feet above, forming rivers flowing down hill away from the spiders in alignment to the path for the Cyre coordinates... THX notes the landmarks along the way while frank calcs the angles and distances the Path spell is recommending for future reiteration. Rising from the floor of the cavern, the team disrupts screeching bats with sonic attacks worthy of a few aspirin after the team ends the pestky bug-hunters. The shrieks of the bats no doubt acted as an alarm to an incoming raiding team of gargoyles on the wing that took delight in upturning the skiff, trying to knock the team free of their craft. Princess Triceratops plummeted to her death along with THX spilling off-ship... Frank held on to the railing with one hand as we swatted at Gargoyles with the other holding his massive enchted sword. Between THX nomadic steps, fether fall and flying hammer spell, he was able to get back on deck and crumble the remaining gargoyles-- except the last one managed to limp awa y to the north into the darkness. Ignoring an obvious lure, Frank summons a new princess while THX makes with some healing. Tthe team continued onward until a irradescent rainbow aurora borialis effect caught theior eye as they flew blind across an endless chasm. Near a northernly wall, Water pouring through a crack in the ceiling added to the rivulets pouring into the environment, mixing with the floating rainbow crystals that a squad of gargoyles were collecting and using to fashion massive sculptures of familiar gargoyle shapes... a number of massive-sized pods look like escaped eggs by gargantuan sized gargoyles... Team decides to collect a sample of the colored crystal suspensiion which coats the ship if not cleared while traveling through the expanse. the gargoyle workers scattered when the lights shone on them, and the team didn't like the idea of sticking around to learn more about it.. heding wester by northwest along the norther wall, tendrils of black ooze slitehring along the walls kept them from hugging the airskiff to the wall too closely... then the airskiff became the target of one of the truly massive gargoyles, clamping onto the back of the skiff; knocking princess off, falling to her demise far below. THX hits the giant gargoyle with a Dispel Magic of high-potency, causing a lot of the crystals to shed of the gargyole and reduce its sixze to something Frank jumps on with a double crit to shatter it apart into endless crystal powder... clear of the threat, the team continues onward. Roudnding a bend northward, they enter a wind tunnel of floating stones, much like an asteroid field, THX navigates through the tumbling stones while Frank lends aiming to the gunpods, decimating many oncoming rocks at high-speed. The winds blow primarily from the north east towards the cavern they were just in.. past the rock field the Path spell leads the team along a wester4n wall carved into cliff ledges and natural shelving large enough fo rth eteam to park the ship for a rest. The team wakes when the Gun Pods begin opening fire on unexpected trolls. They rush the ship before they can lift away... getting princess triceratops covered in chewing enemies. Princess Triceratops jumps off the skiff to her demise below, taking a handfull of the trolls with her while the team knocks away the remaining few on deck. Shadowy shapes along the ledges indicate there's a whole tribe of trolls along these cliffs.. Ancient marks are carved into the cavern walls between levels of shelves-- sure signs of some sort of tribalism. in fact, the team finds an altar atop a craggy climb at the north edge of the cavern leading away to the north-- balanced atop the steep rock mass is another warmek airskiff! The deck of the skiff has no signs of the pilotin g docents, and THX identifies a shamanistic blood ritual magic circle with many many many prior circles scrawled on the skiff deck. THX smudges the circles' integrity before the team takes a long rest near the ceiling far above the stationary air skiff.
