Hi I am trying to pull characters to the map but opens character sheet instead of selecting character icon ? Any ideas

Sounds like you are just clicking. You need to left click drag the name onto the map and let go. And make sure you are dragging form the name, not the 3 horizontal bars. The three bars are for moving that entry up and down in the Journal list.
