I think it would great if the roll20 app, currently just an attempt to involve roll20 in real life campaigns. Was redone as a full on system agnostic campaign building tool. 1. Adapt it to work on mobike devices. AKA phones. So GMs can work on their campaign during idle time instead of Tetris. 2. Create a map builder in the tool that uses marketplace assets. Each asset will have preprogrammed but probably adjustable base size. a.It should use a tabular system to allow gms to switch easily back and forth between the map tile folders and the map. b. It should be zoomable with finger gestures. c. The tiles should drag and snap. Like in a jigsaw puzzle app. You click the piece, that shifts to the map automatically, then you press on the map and the token appears, clicking around as you drag it into place. If you select the tile but dont drag it anywhere then a menu of options like turn, resize ect appear. d. Dynamic lighting will be trickier. It will probably need to bring up its own HUD. And work by setting waypoints with taps. Its subsequent tab is automatically connected to the mmediate prceding tap. With a map scroll compass for map sliding to avoid accidental way point setting. The option to set ellepsis should be put in. Adjustable and snappable like tiles. 3. The whole thing needs to be fully and easily exportable and importable to and from the phone and roll20 servers. Both so it can be worked on offline and so backups can be made. If you want it all to be in a special encrypted filetype thats fine. Though this would be a good opportunity to allow maps to be exported to PNG. 4.It should be API supported so the random dungeon tilesets can be used on it, even though right now they are all terrible.(Joke, I just lack the patience to setup the tiles.) 5.It should have a full campaign workspace. For both each map and for the campaign as a whole. a. The campaign is just a bucket that holds the adventures. And beyond the chosen overarching theme, and campaign background. Should just be an overview and list of the containe adventures, adventure areas (including cities and region) and any quests not contained within an adventure. aa. It should be possible to upload overworld and city maps directly here. A marker note mechanic would be useful here. b. The adventures should have their own background space, synopsis, event coodinator, quest losts and conclusion space. As well as a way for it to be spiderwebbed to other adventures and campaign quests. c. Events should include combat encounters, roleplay challenges, Tabled Events and various non-combat encounters. cc. This certainly needs to be APIable so they can be geared towards ceetain systems. A D&D fourth edition skill challenge or the Stars without Numbers behind the scenes movements are too complex to be easily fit into an agnostic builder. d.Monsters should have their own vault seperate but similar to the character vault. So sheet builders can start including sheets just for monsters. Making it easier to pop and place monsters on the maps. e. Maps should include am easily accessible space for GMs to list terrain features. 6. Viewable Cards, and I dont mean decks, should be made available for monsters and NPCs attached to their sheets. So GMs can reference the RP and if necessary combat info on all the NPCs in her campaign without having to dig through notes. The cards should display in a small expandable window whenever a token is sekected that can be expanded and shrunk with a quick tap. a. It would be neat if player characters had vital stat cards that opperared this way as well. And Ive lost my train of thought. Ill update this later as the rest of the ideas return.
