The GM Thread

Edited 1496658686
Members who actively want to GM for club members, please reply below to let players know what systems you want to run and the nature of the gaming experience you're offering. To find players for a specific game, please create separate thread. Players actively seeking games can describe themselves in the players thread in this forum, saying what you're looking for. Discussion is encouraged in this thread.
I have some ideas for a couple of Risus pbp games, one being post-apocolyptic and the other being kinda supernatural...
We can discuss your ideas in this thread if you want. To recruit for the game, please create a separate thread. If you choose to make the game by invitation rather than through a public listing, your recruitment thread should indicate that as well. Sadly, because members get notifications of posts in this forum, having non-players in your game get notifications of posts in your game could cause social problems, so I'd ask that you create your own game for the actual PbP play. Several members have expressed interest in PbP, mostly because of busy schedules that make arranging real-time sessions difficult for them. They've identified themselves in the Member Poll thread, so if you're comfortable contacting them, it's up to you. I've also created a PbP thread in this forum for you guys to discuss PbPing together.
Imagine if you will that an airborne variant of the ebola virus was created by a radical branch of the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement, (Vehement for short) and they have released it in one spot that guarantees it covers to globe before the symptoms start... 90% of the population dies off...
The other game is a murder mystery with a supernatural twist.

What game system and quasi-historical time period?

If you're prepared to walk me through Risus I'll play. I don't know anything about the system. Once the game is ready you can advertise.
There should be a link to the Risus page in the OGL forums. http://www222.pair.com/sjohn/risus.htm
I'm thinking of either running a Star Wars game (using Star Worlds/Streets of Mos Eisley), low-fantasy game (using World of Hirelings) or a post apocalyptic game (not sure with what). All the rule-sets I'm using or planning to use are/will be entirely free, to make it so that everyone can get a hold of the rules. Also, I prefer running rule-lite games. Any interest in a particular genre?

Any interest in a particular genre? I'm personally stretched to the limit with playing, GMing commitments and tasks, and overseeing the Club. But lots of other members have experessed interest in both future and dystopian games, so you should have no problem finding enough players among the members. Once your game is ready you might want to start a recruitment thread.
I'm running the club and have the Saturday weekly game, including one on Roll20Con Sunday. I've got games to run this Thursday and Sunday, plus one on Roll20Con Saturday. I run a workshop for learning Burning Wheel, where we co-ordinate on players dropping into the game room every day. I'll have one for Roll20Con as well. The Saturday Roll20Con game is for up to 10 total newcomers to micro-learn tabletop RPGs and perhaps Roll20Con game room use by just showing up and starting to play without preparation. It's a lot of work, and I love it. When you're sitting on your ass waiting for health care two months from now, rewarding use of all that free time is important. I wouldn't trade it for anything. But I'm 52 and never married or had kids, and have zero training in dealing with people, especially when I hold more cards than they do. I'm loving the learning curve, but any tips from the seasoned vets would be appreciated. Tell me whatever you think it would help me to know.
Well, as long as you're having a good time, I'd just say keep doing what you're doing. Other than that, looking at what you have on your plate, I'd just recommend being careful about taking on too many games at once and getting GM Burnout. It can sneak up on you pretty unexpectedly.

Can you either tell me more or provide me with a link on GM Burnout?

I had that happen to me in the 1990s but didn't know how to deal with it and didn't know enough to be open with the players about it. That cost me with one really good game I was running. The rest of the videos in that series look interesting! I'll be watching them as my schedule permits.
