Location : Lastpoint, Gill's cave Date/Time: after the final battle Who: Thaddius, Aren After he had finished skinning and butchering the two giant sharks Aren had moved off a bit to tend to his wounds - Aurielle had healed him from the brink of death almost completely but he still had a few smaller injuries that needed attention. As he was doing so, he marveled at how much better he felt having shared some of his predicament with Aurielle - he hadn't regretted killing the cultist earlier but seeing his companions distraught had weighed on him. Aurielle still most likely didn't completely understand but it seemed like she still accepted him, and that was the important thing.  Looking up Aren's spirits started to fall again as he noticed Thaddius coming towards him. Great. What does he want?   He at least seemed to be away from that giant metal beast for now - though it had been surprisingly useless in combat so far so maybe that wasn't a good thing. He was wearing the same mask he had worn to the Prince's party for some reason. Aren listened as Thaddius made his request. He let out a small, slightly derisive snort as Thaddius mentioned his "hoard" " Well if you consider one ring to be a hoard then I guess I am." He held up the hand with the Ring of Warmth that Tik Tik had found, taken then given to him. He felt irritation flare up in him at Thaddius' next comment, but forced it down. "And you're right, you don't know my past. But that doesn't make what I was going to do OK, so I can't say that your comment was unwarranted. Though I will say that if you're going to ask a favor from someone needling them beforehand probably isn't the best way to go about it."

Location : Lastpoint, Gill's cave Date/Time: after the final battle Who: Thaddius, Aren As thaddius took the ring he pulled  the mask to the side and began to analyse the material workings of the ring, a smile quickly spreading across his face as he stood leaning on his staff heavily while staring longingly at the ring. "Well looking at the ring is a start i suppose but I do need to at least hold it for a moment, you can watch me if you wish i'm not going to steal it. you do have something else i believe, no reason to hold out on me I am doing this for the betterment of the group or are you too proud to let an old man assist in the only way he can?"   Thaddius leaves his mask to the side and smiles wide at Aren   "I can't say i'm not surprised, usually when people are forced to do something horrible * ahem* torture, they end up trying to justify it. I'm glad you haven't fallen to depravity, Donny used to say the same to me. He's glad i left where i was and it was good that i set off on my own.  Simply looking at an item is considered a favor? Again this is leading to the betterment of the group. Why not Aren? I want to see what kind of man you are, I hold you no ill will so why do you hold me ill will? I have already admitted that i don't know your past so instead of getting defensive lets talk. In the end we're in this together and it's easier to want to protect those who you know " Thaddius plants his staff in the ground and leans over it again a quiet laugh being heard behind the mask.
Location : Lastpoint, Gill's cave Date/Time: after the final battle Who: Thaddius, Aren Well...honestly there wasn't really a reason to not let the old man take a look at the ring - even if he did do something to it all the ring had seemed to do so far was keep Aren warm. "Sure, I guess if you're so insistent . " He slid the ring off his hand and offered it to Thaddius cautiously. As Thaddius continued however Aren felt much less cooperative. "How do you know about that? That's not something for you, or anyone for that matter." Aren stood up from where he was and waited for the old man to "inspect" his ring, or whatever it was he was doing.

Location : Lastpoint, Gill's cave Date/Time: after the final battle Who: Thaddius, Aren Thaddius nodded excitedly as the ring was handed over and began peering into the innerworkings of the ring his eye flashing with arcane understanding as he took twenty minutes to sit, half of the time was simply to cast identify on the ring and the other half was to try to understand the blueprints of the ring itself. After a long silence had passed Thaddius frustratingly stood up and rubbed his eye wearily handing the ring back over (rolled a 12 for learning the blueprint) "This environment isn't conclusive to my work habits, perhaps tomorrow we should try again. But this ring gives you a resistance of sorts to the deepest of temperatures. One would even go to say that any ice based attacks would have a lesser effect on you, it is quite the boon my friend" Thaddius' bobbed his head as he spoke and slowly climbed to his feet groaning as he went "As for your other trinket, I know a spell that allows me to see an aura of magic around items, I cast that spell when we looked at that dragon statue and i also noticed all of your goodies. Understandably so if you wish for me not to see it but i only aim to further my own knowledge and provide aid to the group" Thaddius bowed slightly and dejectedly sighed in defeat.
Location : Lastpoint, Gill's cave Date/Time: after the final battle Who: Thaddius, Aren Aren looked on skeptically as Thaddius spent the better part of half an hour making odd noises while looking at the ring. At the end of which he handed it back, telling Aren nothing he didn't already know. At least he had handed it back - Aren had been unsure if that would happen when he handed the ring to the strange man. "Uh-huh. " He didn't bother trying to hide the skepticism in his voice, "Well, thanks for the information. I do feel pretty warm when I'm wearing it, so that makes sense." He looked at the half-elf warily as Thaddius went on. 'I see...well, as I said that other item you sensed is rather..."  He spent a few seconds searching for the right word, "...important to me. And I feel that revealing that I have it will do no one any good. You shouldn't mention it to anyone - or better yet, just forget about it." As Thaddius sighed in frustration Aren couldn't help feeling a spark of pity for the old man. He had more or less proven by now that his intentions for the group weren't malicious. Aren still didn't like him, but Thaddius had fought with the group several times now - and that counted for something, at least, right?.
Location : Lastpoint, Gill's cave Date/Time: after the final battle Who: Thaddius, Aren "Something to take comfort in i suppose? Even in this abysmal place you can still feel warm and cheery!" Thaddius' usual smile faltered and he searched for some deeper meaning in the statement before simply accepting the statement. "Understood Aren, your hidden secret is safe with me. But why wouldn't it be useful? I understand if it's of sentimental value, that's why i don't have these removed." He pulled up his sleeve to reveal scrawled runes in his skin, not pulsating with any sort of power just dormant archaic scripture. " But i suppose having a trump card is best held secret . I can't forget what i've seen, but i will drag it with me till i transcend"

Location : Lastpoint, Gill's cave Date/Time: after the final battle Who: Thaddius, Aren "Yeah well I guess it is comfortable." Aren frowned, choosing his words carefully,  "Trump card? No, I wouldn't call it that. I'm pretty sure it would be useful but there may be... consequences if I use it."  As Thaddius rolled his sleeves up Aren raised his eyebrows in surprise. On Thaddius' arm was what looked like tattoos in the shape of arcane runes. He didn't recognize them, but the rune's presence was certainly disconcerting.  "You did say earlier that you left somewhere. I'll admit I'm curious about that, since I remember before you said you didn't remember anything about your past. Where were you before, that you had to leave?"
Location : Lastpoint, Gill's secret passage Date/Time: a few hours after leaving Slaughter Swamp Who: Aren, Peri (but also everyone) Walking through the dark tunnel towards the mining settlement Lyro had mentioned, Aren found himself positioned towards the back of the group, mulling over the events of the past day or so. Slaughter Swamp had been fairly successful - they had found a lot of information about how to work the teleportation circles, and killed a bunch of pirates. And hopefully Ink still didn't know what was going on - or was at least very confused. It still bothered Aren that they hadn't been able to even make contact with the locals, though. Even with the condition the people had been in it would have been nice to have people who could give them anything - food, water, information, maybe even some extra fighters if they were lucky. But no - they had barely even seen any non-pirate locals. And he still had a bad feeling about that house that had disappeared... it was clear that things were not all as they seemed. It was uncertain whether that would turn out to be a good or bad thing, however. Aren moved over towards where Peri was walking. This whole mission was probably hitting much closer to home for her, Khord and Cicero than himself or any of the others, given what had happened at Tantamar. They needed their leader to have solid judgement - the gods knew Aren could barely trust his own lately.  "Hey, how are you doing? Um. I only ask 'cause there were probably a few dozen people in that building you burned back there. I mean, I know they were pirates but still... I, uh. I just wanted to make sure you weren't, you know..." He trailed off a little uncertainly, glancing at Peri as they walked
Location : Lastpoint, Gill's secret passage Date/Time: a few hours after leaving Slaughter Swamp Who: Aren, Peri (but also everyone) Peri cleared her throat. "Um, well. Yep." The uneasy little prize from the hag was in a belt pouch, keeping company with the cursed ring and Khord's figures and Aren's little wooden token: she stirred them around, wishing she had a clue what she was doing. "I'm not too bothered. They woulda killed us in a second if they could, there were too many of them for us to fight--" she used air quotes: "-- 'fair', and they weren't exactly treating the 'townsfolk' with tender kindness either. There was some nice wood in that building, good solid doorframes and nice woodwork...that's more of a pity than the murdering pirates, I reckon." She bit at her thumbnail, which was a little ragged. "Kind of a shitty way to go, the fire, but I didn't see anther option. We're doing the best we can with what we've got, I reckon. Not gonna lose any sleep over Khord snapping some dudes' necks for their clothes, either." She shrugged. "Business, you know."
Location : Lastpoint, Gill's secret passage Date/Time: a few hours after leaving Slaughter Swamp Who: Aren, Peri (but also everyone) Aren nodded along as Peri answered him. She seemed confident, but as she bit her thumb Aren got the impression that she was still a little unsettled. "Yeah, right. Right of course. I mean we did come here to kill pirates after all. I probably won't lose sleep over these guys, either. It's just, well..." Aren looked down at Peri again, watching for her reaction. "Cicero told me about what happened at Tantamar, on the ship. The real story, not what they were saying at the guild and in the rest of the Principalities. He actually seemed pretty surprised that I hadn't heard already, from you or Khord. Well..." He stopped himself, a small smirk appearing on his face, "Maybe not Khord. But, um... After I heard that, I figured you and Khord and Cicero might be feeling kind of similar about these pirates to how I feel about those cultists. And, well, considering how I reacted to that the other day I think you can see why I might be concerned, yeah?"
