character generator?

Hi - still waiting for my rule book to come and hopefully get back into some adventures. In the meantime, are there online character generators that people use or most do it by hand/paper + die? thanks
mostly hand/paper + die but if you need a little help then try this site http://www.mollyworld.com/ADD/chargen.shtml

There's a neat program called "Core Rules 2.0", if you could find a CD or a version online to install on your computer. It was officially made and published by the makers of AD&D 2nd Edition. It has a character-maker, character-sheet maker, and can output the result as Plain Text or other formats (I think PDF). It's been out of print for a long time, but you may be able to get it online. Just keep in mind that a lot of DM's have different, custom, house rules for character creation. So it's good to have some characters ready, or at least some ideas, but be ready to modify depending on the DM's setting and house rules.
Ok I managed to get the images from my friend who had these books up in his attic. Now to figure out which does what. There are 3 CD's.
Anyone online feel like a TS session to help me out and create a character and help get me going? Got some time tonight. thanks
Using the tool with the CD I was able to create a character... now looking for some adventuring :-)
I have core rules 2.0 plus the 2.0 expansion from 1996. For AD&D 2nd Edition. I have used both since they came out, great programs set, better than anything else for AD&D.
