The Particulars:
I am looking for a D&D 5e long term campaign that leans
heavily towards role-playing and plays on Monday, Thursday, and/or Friday
nights (the later in the night the better). I prefer games that are immersive,
with good visuals and sounds and where the DM and Players role-play heavily
with voice and actions. I do not have a camera but I do use a mic. If it looks
like I might be a possible match, then please read on to learn more about me.
If it doesn’t, then save yourself the time and thank you for your consideration.
About me:
I have over 35 years of Role-playing experience both as a
player and as a DM/GM. A year ago I ran a short campaign after a couple of
years of taking a break from role-playing gaming. It was my first introduction
to both the 5e ruleset and to Roll20. I enjoyed them both. But being the immersive
type of DM (and to some degree a perfectionist), I created and found heavily
detailed maps; lots of handouts, images, and pictures; and used music and sound
effects; as well as created, modified, and integrated code to help smooth out
and automate many of the D&D and Roll20 processes (I’m a programmer). This
was great for the campaign, but not so great for the amount of time it took me
to do all of this. With a full time job and a family this didn’t last long. So
now I am looking to just play.
With that being said, I would be excited in helping the DM
out when they need it. Not in actually DM’ing the game, but with assisting in
setting up the game, providing and designing maps, tokens, images (god knows I
have thousands of them), sounds, and information and assistance on using Roll20
to its greatest extent.
I am an easy going old man that loves to role-play. After
all, that is what this is all about, right? I “try”, and yes I meant to emphasize the word “try”, to
do voices, but I’m not always successful. I do roll-play my actions though. I especially
enjoy roll-playing challenging characters as you can see in some of my
character concepts below. I love DM’s and Players that do the same. When this
happens the games become memorable and epic. Watch some of the ‘Critical Role’
videos on YouTube for some good examples and watch ‘GM Tips w/ Matt Mercer’ for
some really good information (This video is awesome for player Roll-playing
tips = Roleplaying Against Type in D&D!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JnbhpPGMvY).
Character concepts:
Although I have several good concepts of characters rolling
around in my head, some of which are listed below, I am in no way bound to any particular
Race or Class. I am pretty flexible about that as long as I like the game, DM,
and players - which ultimately is what is important.
- A Dwarf Female wakes up in the corner of a pub with no
memory of who or where she is. I know, the pub is so cliché, but it is just an
example. And please do not tell me you are the type of DM that starts their
characters in a pub - unless you have a VERY good reason. If you need better suggestions
of how/where to start, ask me. The Female Dwarf is actually a Polymorphed Male
(any other race) that had her memory wiped. There are so many ways and reasons in
which this could have come about and something for both me and the DM to explore
and role-play. The challenge here is a double roll-play whammy. Your not only
roll-playing something your not, your one step further down the ladder of what
you are not... if that makes any sense. How exciting is that! And just think if
other players or the whole group was suffering the same thing. What good time
there would be not just in the roll-playing, but in trying to solve the mystery
behind how and why.
- A Rat-man Mage. Got this concept from a cool
image. Anyways, it would obviously be in a monster or intelligent animal
(Humanoid like: Cat-folk, Dog-folk, etc...) campaign, both of which would be a
first for me. The campaign could be a normal campaign world only the players
are playing the monsters this time (which quite frankly sounds a bit difficult
since I prefer more realistic style of games. In my eyes, the monsters would
always have a hard time since no one, no matter how good the monsters are,
would ever truly except them). Or it could be a complete swap where the Animal-folk
or monstrous creatures are the civilized races while the pesky mean Humans,
Elves, and Dwarves are the true monsters occupying the dungeons and wastelands.
Or, in this particular characters case, it could just be another poor Polymorphed
person, only he still has his memory and knows who and why... or not.
