I want to learn how to play DnD

I'm new but I've been dying to learn how play. I know I want to be a Tiefling and I know I want to be a wizard but reading the handbook doesn't really help me understand how the game works. I'm hoping to join a game to get some experience knowledge. So will anyone let me join them on their adventure and show me the ropes to DnD?

I'd be down to DM/teach, esp if we could get a few more players

It depends on the DM, but it varies from as small as 3 players to much more.
