His village burned and it's inhabitants hunted. Dmitri can't quite remember what happened because he was too young when it did. All he remembered was death, a great fire, a frozen forest, and a warm friend. Bjorn, the great sentient bear of the Frozen North, found young Dmitri covered in black ash and frozen tears. For the next several years, Bjorn taught young Dmitri how to read and write, and how to hunt and fight. Dmitri has a great power deep within himself that Bjorn discovered has arcane roots; however, kept this a secret from Dmitri, as magical beings like himself would be executed by the controlling kingdoms. Often, Bjorn and Dmitri would take trips to a local village and interact with the locals. The locals were very fond of Bjorn the Bear, and regarded him as their friend and protector, so when he showed up with little Dmitri one day, the villagers were very friendly with the young boy. Dmitri took a great interest in Gustav, the Dwarf blacksmith of the village. When Dmitri became of age, he took up an apprenticeship with Old Gustav and learned how to become a blacksmith. Dmitri, now a man, always helped is village out with all sorts of tasks. Heavy lifting, hunting, lumber, building, and forging are just some of the many things Dmitri did to help. Dmitri loved his village, and the village loved Dmitri. One cold night He awoke with the sweat and pain of a bad dream. Bjorn was in danger. He just knew. So, he got up, grabbed Gustav's greataxe from the racks, and headed out in the night towards Bjorn's home. deep in the forest he found a large group of people, who had Bjorn surrounded. Bjorn was injured and bleeding and there were red spots all over the snow. Somewhere deep within Dmitri exploded in arcane energy, and a great rage overcame him. With great speed and strength, Dmitri charged the closest person and brought his greataxe down onto her head, splitting her in half. With great shock, everyone turned towards Dmitri in horror, and thus the carnage began. Body parts, intestines, and blood littered the floor, soaking the snow. Dmitri's true power had been discovered, and there were no survivors but Bjorn and himself. There was a great flash, and in an instant Bjorn disappeared and an old man took his place. Bjorn was secretly the great druid of the north but too weak from his injuries to maintain his wildshape. Dmitri carried him back to the village to be treated by the Clerics of the church of Kron. It was sunrise by the time they came back. After dropping off Bjorn, Dmitri returned to the blacksmith through the back door and after a short moment he heard a knocking on the front door. Still on edge, with the greataxe in hand, Dmitri answered. "Привет," A very large man in full plate at the door greeted. "...Привет," Dmitri replied. "The great kingdoms are at war, and we are here looking for recruits." "Not interested." The man stared blankly at Dmitri. "We aren't asking." and with a swift movement, he grabbed Dmitri and pulled him out of the door and onto the streets. Shocked, Dmitri readied his axe and was met with a surprising amount of soldiers behind shields, pointing spears at him and surrounding him. "This is a draft," the man said. "Either join, or die."
