Question on cyberpunk games

I see some people are running shadowrun, a game I really try here, and that got me wondering has anyone tried running other cyberpunk themed games here? Just curious to see if others were tried or if that genre isn't as popular.
well the thing with rpgs is that if one "grand" game comes(like shadowrun or D&D), it over shadows ever other game of that theme(so shadowrun come along, for example, and everybody just goes to the first game made of that theme) that does not mean cyberpunk unpopular, it just that shadowrun came first and is therefore more popular
I've seen the odd Cyberpunk 2020 group try to get going and have run a Savage Worlds conversion of Shadowrun personally. If you're willing to GM, you won't have a problem finding players for any cyberpunk game; waiting for one to start might take a while.
Will try building a map and see how it goes
well I play Radiance RPG. Its more steampunk but can be played in Cyberpunk. Rules support it. Good fun. :)
Steampunk is awesome. Finding the map builder tricky.
I've GMed a cyberpunk game, my own custom world, using GURPS. Psionics, implants, bio-engineered disease and all. Even a bit of "virtual world virus" that infected peoples brains and drove them insane. Ah, the good old days. (worthwhile to note, it was during this game that my friends took to the saying "shoot the innocent civilians first" so I might've been a bit over the top nefarious, even if I only had ONE civie betray them)
Ah GURPS an amazing engine for doing your own thing. Especially if the macros here handle the dice rolls and speed up the skill checks
Indeed it is. It's also nice that one can put rules (if you create your own advantages etc, or just don't want people to have to read the PDFs all the time) in handouts. Overall I think r20 makes GURPS much easier (for the player) to work with :)
mmm yes I have found finding resources for a Steampunk world can be difficult. So far its gone pretty well.
Steven B. said: Steampunk is awesome. Finding the map builder tricky. Honestly, the Roll20 mapping tools are a waste of time if you want anything more complex than black lines. Make the map in Photoshop and then import or use/make tiles. But actually building the map in Roll20 will not end well.
Make it in GIMP. Same tools, doesn't cost. ;) As for steampunk resources, what is it you need?
Oh just messing about with the system for now. Combat is going to be interesting. I can put images on the table but getting the tokens to hold some macros is puzzling me.
Make it so it represents a sheet, give the sheet some abilities :) (sheets are available through one of the tabs to the right of the UI)
excellent, thanks will experiment and see how I get on
I am currently running (F2F, website & email based) Cyberspace (yep, ICE's version) campaign that I have/am in the process of converting to HERO System. I have been looking on here to see how well it will support HERO in the hope that I could run some games on here (others as well as the CyberspaceHERO).
That sounds like a wonderful game. Good luck with translating it.

I got into Hero very recently - through the Bundle of Holding late last year - and from a few cursory read throughs, I can't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to run a campaign of Hero in Roll20. Now, if you're looking to automate tasks like splitting out Body and Stun damage from die rolls or doing calculations in play, then you'll find the API feature (via a mentor level subscription) immensely useful. There's no problem with even the free tier assuming you're willing to interpret the results of the dice in your head as you would do on a real tabletop.

There's no problem with even the free tier assuming you're willing to interpret the results of the dice in your head as you would do on a real tabletop. Fabio M. has already created a series of scripts that do a very good job of automating an awful lot of the HERO system. ( HERO API ). I haven't looked at the latest code but when I last looked at it it was doing a very good job of handling combat phases, combat rolls, hit locations, armor, and damage (both killing and regular). Since then I believe people have added in the ability to block and dodge. However, as you said, you really don't need all those APIs. When I use to play HERO tabletop I didn't have any APIs. We just rolled the dice, totaled it, counted up body, and wrote down our stun and body totals on scraps of paper. We didn't even have the ability to scroll back to double check if we thought something was off. Of course we also had to walk six miles to school each day through three feet of snow, uphill, both ways, so I can understand that young whippersnappers new to the game might want to take advantage of APIs.

I'd become a mentor to use the API, but I can't figure out where to put the punch card.

To become a Mentor or to use the API?
