If I'm not able to use Discord or Skype, does that pretty much make looking for a group useless?

As the title says; is it a waste of time to look for a group if I can't use either of these programs?
No some use team speak, there are also text based games. Not having skype/discord will make it harder for you but not useless.
text only groups pop up every once in a while... just have to look for them.
There is a group on here that does text only. I am also a Text-only GM. But... voice seems to be the predominant preference here.
Sometimes, games run on Skype etc will allow players to play by text, but they will still need to hear the others talking.

Hello everyone. I just wanted to let you know there is a roll20 community that specializes in games that recruit text gamers. This community has members that play text due to hearing or speech issues along with those that just enjoy games in the play style of text or play it because of not having a mic. We have multiple games listed in our forums and for those that can use discord, listed in our text server. No actual game is being ran in the group but is used as a more focused LFG forum for this style of games. Knights of the Written Word 2 is a community for gamers who enjoy or prefer text-based games. All systems are welcomed.

Roll20 offers a built-in audio / video communication feature. If it works for you, in the LFG you can look for games that are listed for voice and/or video which don't mention a 3rd party program like Skype or Discord. Ask them if they are using the built-in Roll20 solution. Wiki docs, https://wiki.roll20.net/Video_and_Voice_Chat
I'm starting a game that will likely be either text-only or will just be through Roll20. Check it out and let me know if you're interested: https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/6150496/lfp-d-and-d-5e-i-want-to-dm-a-no-frills-dungeon-crawl
