In some games, such as Warhammer 40k rp systems, there is potential for complex combat situations where weapon ranges in hundreds of meters are relevant, as well as movement in single digits. While configuring the map grid can make handling one set of these distances easy, combined, it becomes unfeasible. However, if it was possible to configure a second grid, and tokens would track their position between the two, managing such complex ranges would be much easier. For example, you might have a normal grid of 1m squares, and then a second, zoomed out grid level, with 10m squares. This would also reduce the need for huge page sizes, as you could have a much bigger battlefield with a smaller grid, without compromising the finer movements. To follow up, on the "zoom out" layer, tokens that end up stacking on the same square could have a little more manageability than currently is possible on stacked tokens (not that this wouldn't be useful even without multiple grid levels), for example by opening up a selection on which token you want to select on right click. The different grid levels should have the option of having different backgrounds (if no background set on the top layer, the bottom layer is used), and this would also enable the use of complex levels without different grid scales, such as walkways over industrial halls, or a dense forest with multiple levels that can be navigated. I'm not sure how much of a headache it would be to implement, but I would certainly find it useful.
