How Big is "Too Big"

Have just started a new game, an OSR dungeon crawl, with dynamic lighting & advance fog of war. An absolutely wonderful way for the players to actually experience exploration in the dark. They are loving it! Things ran smoothly, with 2 players. We had a third join about an hour into our session and then things started slowing down a bit (lag) most noticeably in the 3d dice – where the graphics were very delayed. Did try converting the map properties to "update on drop" without much success. Some good tios here: https://wiki.roll20.net/Dynamic_Lighting_Examples Re-work columns as X turn off “has sight” for NPC / Monster tokens, enabled by default? Turn on “update at drop” My map is a bit large 41 x 41, has about a 2 dozen tokens, a few drawings, and a fair bit of text. Am I pushing the boundaries here? Would hate to break map down to multiple 20 x 20 pages as the Advanced Fog of War provides a wonderful player map, and would like to keep the single page continuity. Though open to suggestions. Question: is my outline on the dynamic lighting layer too complex?
Edited with some findings and key question, is the dynamic lighting layer in the pictured example too complex and contributing to lag?

Except for on a low-end or old computer, you should be fine with 41x41 (I use that size and larger), and that amount of dynamic lighting lines. First question that comes to mind -- were any or all of your Players seeing the lag also, or only on the GM? Another question, what ways were you seeing the lag, was it only on the 3D dice or in other areas like, say, any delay in opening a character sheet? Another question, what Character Sheet (if any) is used in your game, and how many Characters do you have under the Journal Tab (if it's more than 30-40, like if you have dozens of NPC's and monsters in there, this can be a factor in lag). What's your Page Settings > Grid Size (not the Units measurement, but the Size that is on default "1" but can be set to smaller fractions)? If any of this helps to resolve it, let's start there. If not then any Mod can provide the usual Troubleshooting steps and instructions to help diagnose the issue.
Thanks for the feedback! Glad to know the map size and dynamic lighting aren't outside normal use. We had another session tonight, good deal of lag again for 3d dice resolving. We are 5 users (1 GM +4 PCs). In response to your questions: Q1: Were any or all players seeing lag, or only GM? Was it only dice or character sheet too? A1: Last week only 2 players experienced lag with 3d dice. Tonight all players & GM experienced the lag w/ 3d dice. Tonight, one player experienced odd behavior (lag) with the character sheet, text boxes not closing. Q2: What character sheet is used, how many characters under journal tab DCC core character sheet, 20 such entries Q3: What is the page settings > grid size 41x41, 70 pixles per unit, 1 unit = 10', grid enabled = 1 unit Adv FoW = enabled, dim light reveals Dynamic Lighting = enabled, enforce LOS, update on drop, restrict movement

How has it worked out for your game lately, Aron? 20 Character Sheets should be ok. Page size should be ok, units, all that. Advanced FoW and DL can both add some processing time / lag, but shouldn't be too bad, if it's bad that could be some sort of bug. Could be an issue just with the 3d Dice. I would recommend Clearing your Cache in your browser; and also try in both Chrome & Firefox browsers. Same issues?
Thanks for checking back Gold, will try the cache clean-up next. Still seeing some lag in our sessions with 3d dice, and some challenges in getting new light sources & player token sight to display correctly (i.e. must try them multiple times to get the effects to display)
