We're full now, thank you for your applications! :) ----------------------------------- Hey, I'm currently looking for players for a new D&D 5e campaign. I may be a bit rusty with the Roll20 features (I last played online about 3 years ago, in the meantime I had all sessions around a real table), but I'll quickly get back into it. Quick info about me: I'm relatively new to P&P (4-5 years and counting, but easily over 10 when it comes to general roleplay) and DMd for around 150 hours or so on Roll20. Lately I've explored other systems as a player (GURPS, Blades in the Dark, Dungeon World, ...), but for DMing I prefer good 'old' D&D 5e. I'm from Austria, male, 27 and a software developer. When it comes to play style I'm more on the Sandbox side (Giving you several plot hooks and you decide what you want to explore) instead of using a great overarching story (We can do this though if you'd prefer to play something on the more epic side). So we'd start small (Preferably with level 1 characters) and see how it develops. Overview organization: We're playing with video and voice, probably Roll20, alternatively Skype (Based on my experience if you see the other players you're more engaged. Bonus: I don't feel dumb waving my arms around in front of my display even though no one can see it :D) Games will be on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, depending on when we all have time (I'm usually free on weekends). Start probably around 15-16:00 (GMT+2) and playing for around 3-5 hours. I only have the PHB, MM and DMG, so unfortunately I'm not versed in any additional material (We can try to include it though if you insist). I'm Austrian, so fluent in German and English. We'll play in English and I hope you can tolerate my accent ;) Depending on the setup we may have a session 0 where we flesh out your characters and the world. If you're new to D&D we may play a short one on one so you get a feel for your character and the ruleset. I see myself as very reliable, so when we all decide on a date to play I expect you to be there. Of course there are emergencies, but oversleeping or going to the cinema instead doesn't count. It's unfair to keep a whole group of players waiting, so please be on time. Group size: When I DM my sweet spot is around 3-4 players. Less and we can still do more personal smaller adventures, more and it gets too crowded in my opinion (I want every player to have some of the spotlight). Game material: I tend to sketch out areas in roll 20, for example like this or this . Sometimes with more detail (city) (world) , sometimes with less detail . Due to having a job and less time in general (plus I'm not an artist) we'll lean towards the less detailed ones for now. Last time I played we didn't even use player tokens, just a dot in your color for the position of your character and enemies, I'll look into using tokens though :) Overview game world/rules: Nothing is set in stone yet, I prefer to talk to you and see where your interests lie. Large unexplored world? Going for dungeons, hidden temples, exploring ruins? Or rather an urban setting fighting against some crime syndicate? Epic fantasy where you're on a journey to save the world, or just joining an adventurer's guild as a relatively lowly group and making a name for yourself by doing more and more challenging errands? Usually I prefer a healthy mix of roleplay and combat, but I'll adapt based on what you seem to enjoy more (For example if you're busy talking IC to another player character I may just sit back and listen, if you seem bored I'll throw you a new encounter or some plot hook to keep things going). I'm sticking closely to the original rules (Also thinking about using the original ruling that there's no critical fail/success on ability checks). A homebrew I like, but which is optional (But can help players that have problems with metagaming): For ability checks like Persuasion, Intimidation, Perception and the like you throw three times and before you throw I secretly select which die counts. This way you have a general idea of how well you did, but you don't know for sure which roll counts (Meaning no "I'll look again, maybe I missed something" just because you rolled low). This is fully optional as I said, you can decide if you want to try it this way. Personally I'd prefer if the characters already knew each other, have some bonds with each other and we would work out their relationships with some background NPCs. If you prefer we can start with the typical "Throw some strangers into a tricky situation and hope they stay together", up to you again. I expect you to play your character, so please no meta- or powergaming, it's about your character's adventure and what decisions he or she may make on the way. I'm not planning on involving PvP, arguments are fine, a Rogue sneakily taking a bit more than his share too, but I dislike actual infighting just aimed at harming the other player characters. I see my role as a DM to enable you to play your character in an interesting (At least I hope so) world. My main goal is you having fun, so I'll do everything I can to contribute to that. This got a lot longer than I anticipated, thank you for reading so far. If you're interested, leave a reply on this post with some basic info (Where are you from? Age? How much experience do you have with D&D 5e? What do you like / dislike when playing? Do you already have an idea of a character you'd love to play?) and let's have a chat on Skype, everyone is welcome :)
