New to RPGs, where is it best to start?

I have never played an RPG. My only exposure is watching a dungeon crawl classics series on youtube and it looked fun so i wanted to try and I found this site. I am a bit lost though. I don't really know where to start. The site seems easy enough to use but there seems to be a lot of games each with their own rules. I am looking for a game where I don't need to know a huge amount to jump in. What are the best games for people who have no experience in these types of games. And what do I need to start playing? A rule book? Character sheets?
Maybe post this in the looking for group forum and you might find someone to hold your hand through a game online here.

Hi Lightbringer. Are you familiar with the hobby at all? There are lots of Iive play and instructional videos out there for the major systems. D&D is probably your best bet for finding instruction or demo play. It's outside of the purpose of this forum to teach the hobby or any particular rule system, but there are games in the Looking for Group listings that accept newcomers. It might be hard to find the right fit (lots of players, few game masters) but it's a good place to start.
I would do a search for games using DnD 5e rules (the most common at the moment, and also one of the simpler ones) that are new player friendly, and apply for some games.

Though this is a very friendly and welcoming community, there's a a forum rule stating that conversation not specifically about roll20 is not allowed here, so there's a practical limit to the amount of help we can give you on RPGs in general. You'll find communities happy to help newbies to tabletop RPGs at places like https://forum.rpg.net/or https://reddit.com/r/rpg (and there are reddits for most rpgs, like https://reddit.com/r/dnd).
