Where to start with a Star Wars RPG

Me and some friends would like to start a Star Wars campaign but we have no idea where to start. I've stumbled across several rule books, but not sure which ones are worth my time. Could definitely use some directions. I'd like to place this particular campaign in the Old Republic era, if that helps at all. I'd like for it to be open to homebrewing, but I can work with really strict rules. Thanks.
I, personally, really like the Edge of the Empire system, but it is more set for playing games during the Galactic Civil War era. There are no true Jedi classes, though there is a Force Emergent in the Age of Rebellion book that I haven't taken a look at yet. Saga edition might be your best bet for going Old Republic.
Thanks a lot man. Since Saga feels much like 4e dnd we'll probably go with that.
go with saga tales of the old republic. Skim through it, and the black and gold core. You'll be using the jedi rules a lot so study those in a bit more detail. I have run SAGA for years. good luck.

Saga is, in my opinion, the best Star Wars rules set to use if you want to play online, as there's no funky dice, and it allows for use of Jedi.
I agree with Saga being the best version. Though, I have really enjoyed playing West End Games d6 version. A little clunky, but very high on drama and action.
Yeah d6 is good also, lots of adventures for it, but I really like what they did with the SAGA books. When I ran Edge at local game stores many players could not get the feeling of how the dice are designed to promote narrative.
Zackery, if you want a VERY flexible game system that will work for a Star Wars game, check out the Fate Core and Fate Accelerated Edition. You can get them for free online as Open Gaming Content. You can see it here Fate-SRD and you can download a free PDF or buy the book here Evil Hat
