LF Players 2-6pm CST (UST -6) Heavy RP game

NOTE: This is for Sunday! Hello, I'm looking to put together a group here because the schedules of my players around here have made it nearly impossible. Ideally, I'd like to put together a group who'll continue for several games together, but a one-shot or two would be a good way to check compatibility. Me as a GM: I come from a theatre and improvisational performance background. (My improv troupe actually uses Fiasco as a Long Form) This influences my GMing. I value interesting characters, emergent storylines, and people who are looking for cool things (both good and bad) to happen. I'm a fan of the players....I like to see them challenged but I get no joy of smashing them. We're creating something together and that's what keeps it fun for me. My general way of going about things is to have an idea about the world at large, have an inciting incident, and then follow the way the players would like the game to go from their actions. My improv background allows me to weave separate threads and bring them together as needed. I have no fear of splitting the party and do pretty well juggling back and forth so no one is left high and dry for long. If you listen to Fear the Boot, my games have been discussed extensively on the podcast. I GM at their convention and am often referred to as Mee-How or Meow Meow. (My name is Mikel) You as a player: You want a character who has ties to the world. Who has their own ambitions. Who isn't afraid of getting in a tight spot. You're willing to discuss meta-information with other PCs if it's a game where PC vs PC happens (a Monsterhearts game, for example) and you realize that a failure right now can lead to cool and awesome things later. Because I want you to do cool and awesome things. If your character has a tragic arc, then awesome: we'll let that tragedy happen in a cool way. If it has a happier arc: awesome. Same thing. I play off your cues. Games I'm looking at: I have a few that I'd love to run a campaign of, but I'd like to do a one-two shot or two to see if people are compatible. Here's what I'm thinking of: One Shots Technoir: Cyberpunk noir RPG. You're in over your head and swimming for the surface as quickly as possible. You may get beaten down, but you don't stay there. Sorcerer. Demons do not exist. But you've summoned and bound one. You've paid a price for your power and it's hardly done yet, but the world could be at your feet if you play your cards right. (Shorter game---4-5 sessions.) There are other possibilities here. Longer Games Fate of the Norns: Ragnarok. Viking adventures in the Fumbllwinter, the time after the Sun and Moon have been eaten as Raganarok is gearing up. Society is falling apart as the Aesir and the Giants are lining up their champions. Legends of the Wulin. Wuxia Martial Arts legends in Mythic China. Tales of honor and revenge set against the fighting world of the Wulin. Unnamed Superhero game (Likely using Smallville or Marvel Heroic): Each player has a super-hero and, using the Smallville character creation, you end up with a web of NPCs and locations that are important to each. As the games begin, there'll be a session or two with all the heroes and then, as we focus in on individuals, PCs will play some of the NPCs of the other characters, helping to create the world. Think Ultimate Spider-Man style heroics and character drama and you're in a good place. So, who's up for a game?
I'm not sure if there's a way to change the title to say that it would be on Sunday afternoon or not.
Hi, I was kind'ov curious at what system you will be using, and also I'm not too good with the time zone thing so I was also curious what time that would be in Eastern United States zone. The only real experience I have in table top games is Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 and just started getting into Magic. I want to expand the types of games I play but my local friends don't want to play anything other than 3.5 or games that use the same system like the Modern D20 game. I've been trying to get with a group on here but it seems like I don't have much luck and also because I can only really play after about 9:30 PM Eastern time to make sure if I work that day and have to close it gives me thirty minutes after work to get on and join the game. I guess that's it for right now.
The One Shots and Longer Games up above had the systems I was looking at. Most of them are pretty easy to teach. I'm in Central Time Zone, so I believe I'm an hour behind you.
Ah ok, do you have a link or something so I can look at the systems?
Fate of the Norns: Ragnarok You can get Fafnir's Treasure for, I believe, free. It's got the basics of the game. Technoir The Player's Guide for Technoir will show you what you need. Legends of the Wulin

Sorcerer The linking ability is a bit wonky on here. I have a few people who've private messaged me about this. It might be best if they posted here so people could see how many we have interested here.
O.K. Well I'll go through them right now. I've been through the Technoir and it seems interesting though they don't say what type of dice to use, though I would still probably need a bit of help with the rules. I'll be going though Fate of the Norns next, but so far they seem different compared to what D&D 3.5 is in a few ways.
I'm not a big fan of D&D. Fate of the Norns is closest to D&D in many ways (it uses a map and minis in some cool ways) but it's after the Fumbblwinter and even rewards PCs for heroic player deaths. (Characters can eventuallyl come back as Einherinjar) Legends of the Wulin is a bit more abstract but the combat system is super cool. It ties the setting into the characters and story in cool ways---players can award deeds to each other and can spend entanglement XP for that player so they're getting more embroiled in the game world.
Ok, I'm having a hard time understanding the Fate of the Norns rules, and can't find anything on Legends of the Wulin or Sorcery. The only reason I'm a big fan of D&D is cause I know the rules and I just enjoy that type of game, plus only thing my friends will play.
I'm pretty used to explaining things to people (I run Con games most people haven't played before and I'm a teacher by profession). I'm not expecting anyone to come in knowing the rules. This is one reason the one-shot possibilities to test compatibilities are ones that can have characters and scenarios whipped up quickly.
That is understandable, main reason I'm here is to try new games and expand my knowledge in such areas, plus I have a bit of free time later in the days that would be nice to have something to do during them.
I sent a PM to the two who PMed me about this. I asked if they would check here to see if we have 3 people who may be interested in a game tomorrow afternoon: Sunday at 2pm CST.
I wont be able to do that, I work from 2-8pm eastern, reason I try to find games around 9:30pm eastern. but if you decide to do a game around then I would be interested, and sorry if I gave you any hassle thoughout this since I wont be able to play.
I have one other game on the weekends that oscillates between saturday and sunday, but I should be able to make both this game and that one. Worst case scenario, I would be a bit late. If the time could be pushed back farther - say to 3 or 4 pm - that would be perfect.
I could do 3pm starting next week. We get together to watch Game of Thrones or Walking Dead on Sunday evenings, but I can go from 3-7 CST most Sundays. (Other plans starting a bit earlier this weekend)
I just heard from my GM he is pushing our game back this week to exactly the time you intend to start. I dont think this will be regular, but regardless I wont be able to play at this time tomorrow.
I'll see if we can get some people for about this time next week. 2pm CST on Sundays.
Hi, OBLivus from FtB.
I've got a few other people from the Fear the Boot forums interested. I was considering a one-shot this Sunday---probably Technoir---so we can see how compatible people are and then talk about if we're interested in a longer, continuing campaign and which one you're more interested in. Thoughts?
That sounds like a good idea.

Id be totally interested. I've actually never tried any of the systems you listed, but I've been playing RPGs for quite some time (10+yrs), so I'm sure I could get a handle on the basics soon enough. Oh, and as a side-note, technoir sounds pretty interesting. So, color me interested and sign me up if that's still available. Cheers.
That sounds cool. Familiarity with the systems aren't necessary. I'll walk people through them and introduce how they work.
I took a look through the Technoir player's handbook. I know you're not certain, but do you want us to come in with characters made or make them with you or use pre-fabricated...?
We can make them together---they don't take long for Technoir and the contacts you get can make a difference to other people.
I'm interested, although I've never played any of the games you've mentioned so you'd have to teach me the rules or point me to rulebooks and stuff.
https://app.roll20.net/join/215969/4A-6Ng Here's the link to the campaign. It says Fate of the Norns: Ragnarok, but I used that as a parking place for a number of different systems. I'd recommend looking over the Technoir Player's Guide on the link above---it's really short and gives you a quick feel for the game. You'll need the Transmission on that page, as that's where we'll be playing, and the Player's Guide will help create characters, which go very quickly.
Sweet, I'm pretty pumped for this. I have a concept in mind: Slicer/Wheel Man. So, if anyone's wondering, that's the angle I'm going for w/ my character. I chose wheel-man because I'm assuming there are computerized vehicles (possibly hoverish craft.. I'm thinking Bladerunner here). Anyway, I'll read the transmission and aim to bring my A game. see you guys tomorrow. Also, are we using any voice-chat for this?
Yeah. Without voice, it takes forever to do anything.

We're in the game and ready to go.
Still looking for 1-2 people for this coming Sunday. Right now it's a 2+ shot Technoir game, which will (hopefully) turn into a group that continues on Sundays with a longer term game.

We're looking for 2-3 people to add to what will hopefully be a reoccurring Sunday 2pm CST game.
You know, I don't have a Sunday game, so why not? I'm in if you'll have me. I haven't tried any of the systems you'll be running before, but I figure that's hardly a problem; just means I won't be trying to trick the system or anything, but instead will just try to make an enjoyable character. If you have anything you'd like me to do before you'll count this as a 'proper' application, feel free to dish.
Look over the Technoir Player's Guide and Twin Cities transmission on technoirrpg.com (I believe that's the URL). We'll be able to create you a character pretty quickly and get you in.
We'll be starting in 3 hours, at 2pm CST. We've had one person who got called into work so we've got two players and could use 1-2 others.
Sadly, Sunday doesn't really work for me (although, it might with some rearranging, I'll have to think about that). Your heavy RP, improv based focus sounds great, though. I'm an old time RPer just getting back into it after 15 years away, with a background in theatre as well. So that kind of thing sounds groovy. :)
