Session Notes

Session 1: Endless Possibilities                 Aboard an unnamed Federation Cruiser, five individuals casually board the FSC Cadet; a small refurbished mining ship recently acquired during a training mission. Their destination is the planet Eritos where the biggest party in the Galaxy is currently underway. They have been given the mission of investigating a possible disturbance of immeasurable scale involving the Cult of Quingaul; the primary religious organization on Eritos and the source of the planet-wide festivities.                 Gill, the pilot, enters first to prepare the ship for departure followed by Northorn the lizardman pyromancer. The next to enter the ship are Amballa a half-elf telepath and sharpshooter, and Corvus a practiced biomancer and former gladiator. Finally, the team’s leader Seth, another half-elf and self-professed Precognitive, traverses the loading ramp and gives the order to launch. As the ship slowly departs the cruiser’s hangar, the newly minted Captain performs a final inspection of the ships cargo and settles in for the long trip.                 The journey took two weeks to complete; a week shorter than anticipated, but a long time to be stuck on such a small ship. From orbit the team of Federation soldiers can already see the planet is swarming with activity. Millions of beings from nearly every planet in the galaxy have come to enjoy the celebration. The locals celebrate every year, but the true festival happens only once every half millennium. The ridiculous amount of activity seen from orbit marks the event as the five hundredth year since the last Harvest Festival.                 As Seth searches the directory for possible berths, Gill points out a listing that screams ‘Union’ operations. With a nod from Seth, the pilot sends the proper requests and the ship descends toward the planet. As the ship approaches the planet’s surface the capital city of Oman grows in the viewscreen until, even at this height, the edges of the city can barely be seen. As the dawn light shone across the planet’s surface, a single immense edifice could be singled out from the sprawling city-scape; The Cathedral of Quingaul.                 The people of Eritos are a short statured lizard race who favor intricate headdresses to indicate social status. The dock supervisor that greeted them upon landing was a typical example of the species. Standing just under five feet in height, his head-piece made him appear to be almost the equal to Seth, the tallest of the ship’s crew, at nearly eight feet. After receiving the appropriate docking fees, the robed lizard welcomed them to the city and due to a modest gratuity volunteered some helpful information.                 A few hours later, the crew found themselves quartered in a pair of conjoined suites in a decent hotel. As there were only four rooms, Seth waived his right to a bed in favor of the couch. After getting settled, the five comrades came together to discuss their mission. The plan was to act as tourists for the first few days and use the time to observe the surrounding area and collect information. Having set his crew to their tasks, Seth sat down at an info-terminal to see if he could procure an air ship for the purpose of aerial reconnaissance. Unfortunately, there were none available for the entirety of the festival.                 Now after midday, Seth headed down to the hotel’s restaurant for something to eat. While at the bar he overheard a group of individuals discussing their plans to use an air-barge to experience the full range of festivities during the festival. Seth commented on his intention to do the same, lamenting his inability to acquire such a craft. The spokesman for the group offered Seth a solution; provide liquor for the party and the Captain and his crew could join in the festivities.                 Returning upstairs, Seth informed the crew of the evening’s activities and placed the order for the required entry fee. Having a few hours before they were to meet the party goers on the roof, Seth retreated to one of the rooms to meditate and familiarize himself with the astral energies of the surrounding area. Initially, he could only sense the general celebratory feelings of the festival participants. As he drifted deeper into his inner self, a sense of dread began to emerge. Focusing on that feeling, a vision of the air barge and its occupants slowly formed in his mind’s eye. The vision was unclear but as he regained consciousness the memory of each being on the barge suffering a slow death still remained.                 As the time to join the party goers on the roof approached, Seth briefed his crew on the potential for danger. He admonished them to stay alert during the proceedings and to keep an eye out for foul play. Seth also explained that the lack of their presence on the barge did not dismiss the event and allowing it to happen could hinder their investigation. Each of his crew agreed to the plan and promised to stay alert for the source of the danger.                 As it turned out, the danger’s author was to be quite obvious. As the barge prepared to launch a beautiful young woman with silky wings landed on the deck amidst a fanfare of fireworks and hoots from the occupants. To Seth’s eyes she was clearly a demon and based on the nature of his vision, he assumed, a succubus. As the barge lifted from the roof of the hotel, Seth shifted his perception to observe the astral energies around the newcomer. As he suspected, tendrils of energy leaving the bodies of each of the beings she approached and joining with her own aura.                 Keying his communicator, Seth informed his crew of the danger and each of them shifted their attention to the young woman. As time passed and the barge followed its course through the skies over Oman, Seth’s mind was turning over the possibilities as to how to remove the demon from the barge. He was startled back into the present when Amballa approached the woman and offered an introduction to her brother, nodding in Seth’s direction.                 As the woman approached, her attitude changed from graceful and out-going to submissive and fearful. She presented herself to Seth, eyes downcast, and asked if she had overstepped her bounds. He claimed to having no rights to make demands of her, but it would be his preference if she would abstain from her feasting while in his presence. The demon nodded her agreement and launched herself into the air, quickly disappearing into the night. Few of the party goers were interested in her departure and the evening proceeded as intended.                 Some time later, the barge had another demonic visitor. The new visitor exuded power and authority and upon landing, immediately approached Seth and requested he attend him in the back where some privacy could be had. Once removed from the others the newcomer explained that he had been informed of my presence by the previous visitor and wished to make an introduction. The conversation was vague and filled with inuendo, but in the end the demon expressed an interest in speaking further at some future date and departed in the same fashion as the other.                 Amballa excitedly informed Seth that the individual that had just departed was the subject of one of her investigations earlier in the day and suggested that we take him up on the invitation to meet more privately. Evidently, he was the head of an organization that was in opposition to the Cult on Quingaul and might provide some assistance in our investigation. The rest of the evening past with no further unexpected visits. *   *   *   *   *                 The following morning, Seth left the hotel with Gill and Northorn to meet with a merchant to sell some of the ore stored in the Cadet’s hold. Amballa and Corvus were to meet him after his appointment at the temple where the second visitor from last night held office. After concluding his business, Seth received a message from Amballa that they had already met with the Speaker and he had agreed to assist. A temple representative had been assigned to work with us and he would meet us at a location of Seth’s choosing.                 Upon arrival, Seth was surprised that Amaballa and the representative had already arrived, despite having come from across the city. Corvus arrived a few moments later and they all sat down to discuss the terms of the assistance each party would provide. After some posturing between Seth and the temple representative, the conversation began in earnest. Once completed, Seth had agreed to have his crew investigate the acquisition of a massive cargo ship by an unknown party, now located in the Swamp of Quingaul, and the temple would use their considerable influence to investigate the possibility of the sun going supernova.                 Once the terms of the agreement were set, food was provided. Seth sampled a few of the dishes and dismissed himself to plan their next steps. He was uncomfortable with the idea of working with demons, but there was no immediate threat he could sense and the mission appeared to be going forward smoothly.
Session 2: Enigma of the Sun                 The only way to get to the Swamps of Quingaul quickly was to fly, and it was up to Seth to lean on the party-goers once again. He successfully convinced them there was a not-to-be-missed party there and they were more than eager to give the crew a ride. The trip was relatively uneventful, aside from the sheep carcass that mysteriously appeared on the deck of the barge and the aerial patrol ship that grounded them at their destination. The occupants of the barge were questioned upon landing, but flashing his credentials, Seth and his crew were allowed to enter the city unmolested.                 Seth had learned from the Federation patrol that the ship that they had been sent to investigate was in low orbit and no traffic had been seen to or from the ship since it’s arrival. He had been told that further information could be obtained from the comm-tower in the city. The crew took some time to look for lodging before heading to the tower, but had difficulties in finding any vacancies. Finally, they found themselves nearing the Church of Quingaul. A large temporary camp had been set up outside the church and every type of being imaginable had set up various dwellings around the square.                 After some time, the group was able to procure a tent from some inebriated dwarves. While discussing their next steps, a loud snapping sound came from outside the tent. A large demonic figure entered the tent and demanded to know who the leader was. Seth responded with a demand of his own; who was he and why he wanted to know. The imposing figure demanded the whereabouts of a demon. Having no answer to give the frightening individual, Seth indicated as such. Unhappy with the response, the being thrust a clawed hand into the flesh of his own arm and drew out what appeared to be a shard of bone and tossing it to the ground the shard grew into a bone great-spear. The figure brandished the weapon, obviously intent on using it.                 Coming out of his vision, Seth voiced the impending danger he had sensed and moved to exit the tent. Outside, Northorn was sitting in a chair near the tent, keeping an eye on those wishing to approach the dwelling. At that moment, it occurred to Seth that the snapping sound he had heard in his vision was likely the neck of Northorn being broken by the visitor. In moments the figure landed nearby and approached. Seth cut off his introduction.                 “We know what you seek. It is not here and we have no knowledge of its location.”                 The creature proceeded to make veiled threats until it drew the attention of one of the festival guards. Wearing archaic armor, the newcomer might have been laughable save for the advanced technology visible beneath the armor plating. This individual was one of many of its kind hired to provide security for the festival, and according to Arabella, was rumored to be an advanced robotic life-form. The demonic figure appeared to be unprepared for a confrontation with the guard and leveling a final threat, departed as he had arrived.                 Seth agreed to have Arabella and Corvus search the city for any evidence of strange activity unrelated to the festival as he and Gill headed for the comm-tower.  The two of them took an elevator to the top of the tower and found it occupied by Federation Special Forces. Showing his credentials, he was given the same information he had been provided earlier; no activity had been noticed going to or from the vessel in question. Requesting any further information obtained be forwarded to his comm, Seth and Gill headed back to the tent.                 Once back at their temporary quarters, Seth asked many questions of Gill regarding some research he had requested relating to the state of the solar body in this sector. The news was troubling, but finally gave them a link to the Cult of Quingaul. Gill had revealed that the most likely use for the ship was to evacuate a large number of higher echelon priests within the Cult and their families.                 Needing time to process this new information, Seth requested the tent be cleared for his meditation. Hours later, he came to refreshed but still troubled. The demonic figure from before had made another appearance in his visions and he needed to discuss this event with his crew. Opening a comm channel to his team, he requested their presence as soon as possible. As he waited for their return, Seth radioed the local security forces for authorization to board the orbiting vessel. His request was denied.                 Seth briefed his charges on what he had seen in his visions. Seth now knew what to call this creature; an Ajax. The Ajax were a species of demon whose purpose was to hunt other demons. In his vision, the Ajax would attack the church in three days and this time the creature would come prepared. After the briefing, the succubus arrived and engaged in private conversation with Arabella.                 As Seth was wondering what the two might be talking about, he sensed an imminent threat against one of his crew. As Gill and Northorn were the only two not present, he walked outside to find the pyromancer sitting in his usual position. Seth contacted Gill and ordered him back to the tent immediately. Scanning the crowd for the pilot’s return, he waited until gunshots could be heard in the distance.                 Springing into action, Seth ordered his team to move on the location and teleported as far as he dared across the square, scanning the area for the location of the disturbance. He soon spotted a group of festival guards engaging with what appeared to be a group of imp-like demons. Advancing quickly on the site he spotted Gill lying on the ground and bleeding. Drawing his energy shield, he entered the melee, intent on recovering his pilot. *   *   *   *                 Back in the tent, Gill recovering from his wounds thanks to a timely healing spell from the succubus, the crew discussed the recent event. It appeared that the sole purpose for the attack was to steal Gill’s data-pad. The only reasonable explanation was that the calculations on the impending supernova were the object of the theft. Seth determined it was time to submit his report to command and ordered Gill to prepare a report on his findings. Report in hand, Seth returned to the comm-tower to send the report to Sector Command.

Session 3: Dignitaries in Distress                 While presenting the evidence collected so far during our investigation, the commander of the local garrison decided it was time to check out the mysterious vessel that had been parked in low orbit. As Seth had been trying to accomplish this very thing for a couple of days now, he volunteered his crew for the mission. The commander was disinclined to accept until Seth reminded him that as members of Psi-Corps they had abilities that might be useful during the mission. Finally, the commander agreed and both leaders assembled their people.                 The transport was a simple breaching vessel, acquired in the off-chance they might have to board the ship by force. Seth and his crew, accompanied by nine commandos and an as of yet unnamed succubus, lifted off the planet’s surface heading for the behemoth that could be plainly seen from the ground. The brief flight was tense but uneventful. As the smaller ship docked with the massive hauler, they all received a message that they were not authorized to enter, a message that they chose to ignore.                 The commandos exited the ship first, crossing the loading bay with a practiced ease that only comes from years of training. Following the soldiers, Seth and his crew observed that there was absolutely zero activity anywhere on the ship; it was eerily silent. As they crossed a main artery which should take them to the cargo area, the group received another message. Again, they were told that they were not authorized to be on the ship and once more they ignored it.                 The group’s progress was suddenly halted by a group of fierce warriors that materialized from nowhere, weapons at the ready. These were not just any warriors, these were Dragon Corps, elite Federation troops that stood in their way. The Dragon Corps commander questioned them as to their purpose on the ship and in no uncertain terms let them know he had no intention of letting them go any further. When it seemed that there would be no way to get out of the situation without violence, another figure presented himself.                 Seth recognized the newcomer immediately. Galactic Senator Ego was a prominent leader among the Federation and held a seat on the Dragon Council. Despite his humanoid appearance, Seth knew him to be a dragon; a very old and powerful one. The Senator thanked them for their efforts but assured Seth and his crew that there was no danger here. In fact, after dismissing both the commandos and the Dragon Corps, he invited the five of them to further explore the rest of the ship.          Once they were alone with the Senator, he waved them towards to airlock that led to the main cargo bay. Seth was wary of the Senator, but knew that if the Senator wanted them dead it would require little effort to make it happen. He nodded to his people to enter the airlock.                 What they found on the other side of the airlock was a party of epic proportions. The activities they had observed on the planet’s surface were child’s play compared to what was happening in the massive hold of the ship. One humongous cylindrical chamber, that was slowly rotating to create a gravitational pull towards the outer edge, that was filled with every known species represented in the Federation. Hundreds of thousands of beings from around the universe were dancing, copulating, and ingesting every form of controlled substance known, and a few that probably weren’t. As if this wasn’t shocking enough, scattered throughout the party-goers were the heraldry of hundreds of Federation dignitaries ranging from Senators to Planetary Governors with a few members of nobility thrown in for good measure. Considering the threats they had already uncovered, this was a disaster of monumental proportions waiting to happen.                 Scanning the crowd, Seth noticed the demon Touroo sitting in an elaborate throne-like chair some distance away. Considering it was the God-Speaker that requested they investigate this ship, it was suspicious for him to be present. Seth dispatched Ambella and Northorn to question him and Corvus disappeared with the succubus, leaving he and Gill to observe the proceedings. Seth was in no mood to enjoy the party, this new threat demanded they reassess their mission and he still needed to send a report on what they had discovered so far to Psi Corps Command.                 Seth spent the next half hour cataloguing known dignitaries and eventually realized their transportation had left and he needed to find a new way to get back to the surface. Finally, he noticed a group of people gathering in a circle. After a few moments the occupants of the circle disappeared, being replaced a few moments later by a whole new group of people who dispersed into the crowd. Seth’s suspicion that they were using teleportation to access the vessel was confirmed. He called his crew back and they assembled in the circle.                 A brief surge of magic and a moment of disorientation and the crew found themselves in a warehouse back on the surface. They quickly exited the circle so that a new batch of party-goers could transport back to the ship. They all headed back to the tent to discuss the new development. With no further leads to follow, they all agreed it was time to submit the evidence accumulated so far to Command. Seth was unconvinced they had fully comprehended each piece of evidence. Something was missing and he felt some introspection might connect the dots. He requested his crew give him a few hours and some privacy and each member of his crew found something to do while he prepared to meditate.                 He began with breathing; slow and steady to calm the nerves. As he began to feel the peace of solitude come over him, he focused on blocking out his surroundings. First, the sound of the people celebrating nearby. He let their presence fade from his awareness and then focused on the gentle flapping of the tent in the breeze. Finally, even the feel of the ground beneath him fell away and he was left with a sense of nothing and everything all at once. He was ready.                 Having entered a trance-like state, Seth began to present the evidence they had collected to the nothingness around him. Each idea coalesced into an image, like a thought bubble, hovering in front of him. Once each piece had been presented he began to rearrange them and draw connections between each vision, trying to draw additional information from the collage of collected thoughts. He still felt that something more was there, but it was eluding him.                 After struggling for some time with the puzzle before him, he felt he was no longer alone. Shifting his focus slightly, he perceived the ephemeral images of seven others considering his presentation. Each of them radiated power but none of them came off as threatening. The visitors voiced their interest in the puzzle and a desire to assist. Seth knew that they would be useless without most of the information that he possessed that connected each idea and so, he provided them with the details of the investigation. He stripped the narrative of all reasoning and motivations and provided them with raw data.                 After some deliberation, the consensus was that the missing piece was Claybourn, the High Priest of the Cult of Quingaul,. With the meeting concluded, three of the visitors volunteered further assistance while three more were determined to leave the system due to the impending supernova. The final figure, a High Elf, claimed they would see each other again in a vaguely threatening manner. Seth thanked them for their help and wished them well. He took his time easing back to reality and once fully grounded he called for his team to head to the tower to deliver their report. *   *   *   *                 At the tower, the first sign of trouble was the lack of guards at the entrance. The only presence was a solitary hooded figure that immediately approached them with an uncomfortable familiarity. Confused at the questions about things he shouldn’t know about, Seth told him to back away. The man did as he had requested and said he would talk to them again after they had delivered their report. Pushing past the mysterious human, the crew headed into the tower. Again, the lack of guards was disturbing. Even more so, was the presence of armed security droids; the exact model that he had seen in his vision supporting the Ajax when he attacked the church.                 The crew boarded the elevator and entered the command to get them to the top floor. A few moments later, the doors opened to a strange scene. The soldiers occupying the comms room were   standing and facing a small demonic figure dancing on one of the main consoles. The strange part was that each of them was in a combat stance but appeared to be frozen in place. The imp was gleefully jumping about the console, slowly demolishing the electronic components and periodically throwing projectiles of magic at the soldiers. With a final destructive blow, he dove into the console disappearing into the mangled computer.                 Suddenly the room was full of action as each of the soldiers resumed their previous actions, directing various attacks in the direction of the departed imp. Realizing the battle was over, each turned in the direction of the newcomers.                 “Now is not the best time, as you can see” stated the Commander. “What do you need?”                 Seth explained that they had come to send their report to their commander and requested the use of their hyperspace communications array. The Commander pointed at the destroyed terminal and said, “You mean that hyperspace communications terminal? I suppose there is very little possibility that the demon attack was just coincidence.” Shaking his head, the Commander ordered a Corporal to show them to the backup unit. “Can I expect more attacks like that one?”                 “I can’t say, but it would be irresponsible not to prepare for one regardless” Seth responded.                 The crew was led to a small room which contained the backup communications terminal. As Gill sat at the terminal to prepare the transmission, Seth ordered Northorn to the mess to find as much salt as he could find. When Gill had finished and confirmed that it would take approximately fifteen minutes to receive a response, Seth ordered each of them to prepare for combat. A few minutes later, Northorn returned with the salt and Seth began to spread the substance in a circle around the terminal. Once complete, he began another circle around the door as Ambella inspected the protection around the terminal.                 As Seth was about to close the door, the frogman from his earlier meditation group appeared and offered his help. Allowing the frogman to enter, they closed the door and the amphibious humanoid began to draw arcane symbols on the door. He finished with a flourish and the runes glowed for a moment to indicate they were active. Thus protected, they stood around waiting for a response to their report. As the minutes ticked by, the crew heard sounds of battle coming from outside. The tower shook and they waited. Finally, silence came over the tower once more. They all looked expectantly at Gill who shook his head. Nothing yet. `               When the message did come, it was a simple directive; question the High Priest of Quingaul. That was going to be a problem. The High Priest would not talk to anyone who was not a true believer and only Dorians could be true believers. Seth chuckled to himself as he realized the situation. When he had the vision of the Ajax attacking the church, there had been no information to indicate why he would do so. Seth had cautioned his crew to be wary, suggesting that they might give him a reason to attack. Seth just realized that he was going to ask him to do it.

Session 4: The Demon Throne             With fresh orders and some new allies, it was time to open a few doors. Outside the comms tower, the hooded figure from earlier approached Seth again. “You have the plan now?” he asked. Seth nodded. He did not trust this guy; he knew too much about Seth and his plans. The hooded man introduced himself as a Traveler by the name of Seamus Bloodmoon.             Seth’s crew had nearly doubled in the past few hours, and except for the Traveler, he felt he could reasonably trust them. The new additions were a Rakshasa named Xandar, an upright bear called Daluth, a Rahu-man named Canistouris, and a man-frog called Lord Grey. Lord Grey had been one of those who had decided to leave the system, but had apparently changed his mind. Each of them knew the danger and had decided it was in their best interest to help.             Considering who else might be recruited to assist in the investigation, Seth’s mind drifted to Senator Ego. Although he had come off as a pompous ass, Seth knew that the Senator was known to champion the cause of the lesser species among the Federation and was well respected. He felt they had enough information now to enlist the Senator’s aid. If they could present their information directly, the Senator should be willing to help. He and his crew headed for the warehouse district to find a teleportation circle. *   *   *   *             Back on the ship, where the Federation dignitaries were still partying full tilt, Seth scanned the massive cargo hold turned dance hall for the Senator’s banner. Finding what he was looking for, he nodded to his crew to follow. Making their way through the crowded room they finally made it to the Senator’s camp. Surprisingly, they were allowed to approach the Senator directly.             Senator Ego was obviously inebriated and seemed both interested and exasperated at the interruption. After a few attempts to explain their purpose, the Senator held up a hand for Seth to stop talking. He waved his hands over his body and with a faint hint of magic his focus returned. “What do you want now?” the Senator demanded. “Still think the sky is falling?”             Seth explained in detail all they had learned and the demon attacks that accompanied each discovery. He also shared what they had learned about the Dorians and their symbiotic relationship with the object of their worship; the sun. Finally, Seth explained that the position of the ship they were currently occupying would be in direct line with the sun and the largest concentration of Dorians on this planet during the apex of the Festival of Quingaul.             Senator Ego was convinced, if not by Seth’s argument, then by his conviction and agreed to assist. He provided Seth with his personal comm channel and that of his personal guard. The Senator also agreed to put together a plan to relocate the ship when needed. Seth advised the Senator to consider alternative approaches to moving the ship rather than firing the engines. The Senator thanked them for their diligence and moved towards his tent. Something about the idea of moving the ship set off Seth’s danger sense. He had a feeling that the diabolical mind behind this plot had a failsafe in place in case they tried that and he just now figured out what it likely was. Once again, he nodded to his companions and they moved off through the crowd. *   *   *   * Standing in front of the throne-like contraption that the God-Speaker, Touroo, had been incarcerated in, Seth was certain that this was the enemy’s failsafe. The chair was not located in such a way as to be a part of anyone’s camp, and it was too alien in design to be part of the ship. Close up, he could see the chair contained magical energy, but to what purpose he could not tell. Touroo was not suffering his captivity lightly and was yelling profusely at them but he had apparently been silenced for no sound issued from his lips. Seth remembered Ambella saying something about Ajax blood and the spikes holding the demon in the chair. As if on que, the Ajax appeared from the crowd of party-goers. The senior, Dathameare, was of average size while the other, Javaknot, was a hulking beast that had confronted them the day before. Seth questioned them about Touroo’s silence and Javaknot explained he had gotten tired of listening to him. With a wave of his hand, the demon’s torrent of obscenities resumed. Upon realizing he could be heard again; the demon ceased his ranting. After a brief conversation with the God-Speaker, the group learned that the succubus Skara had been somehow involved with Touroos capture. Having seen her when they first arrived at the High Elf encampment, Seth dispached Ambella and Corvus to track her down while he and the others inspected the chair. Lord Grey showed his interest openly, while Xandar was more subdued, studying the chair from a distance. *   *   *   * After some time, and having learning quite a bit of the destructive nature of the throne device, Seth felt he should confer with the Senator once more. Approaching the Senator’s private tent, he realized that none of the guards were present. Entering the tent, Seth quickly realized why; there had been an attack on the Senator. The Dragon Corps were known for their efficiency in dispatching enemies of the Federation, and as such there was little to identify the attackers by their remains. Eventually, Seth was able to get the attention of one of the guards and made his request to see the Senator. Seth and Gill were led to the Senator’s safe room, a large metal cube secluded at the back of the tent. Upon entering, they found the Senator and his Head of Security wounded but smiling. Seth and the Senator shared information and an access card was ‘accidently dropped’ by his security chief. The dragon questioned Seth in regards to a rumor about a possible attack on the church and Seth confirmed that it was part of their plan to question the cult leader. Credits were exchanged between the Senator and his subordinate as they had a bet going on the potential culprit. Leaving the tent, Seth was notified of an urgent message from Ambella concerning the succubus Skara. Wasting no time, Seth grabbed Gill and teleported the two of them in a series of jumps that had them arrive at the High Elf camp in a matter of seconds. Approaching the main tent at the center of the camp, Seth noticed Ambella and Corvus were accompanied by two members of the Dragon Corps as well as a member of the High Elf Royal Guard. After conferring briefly with Ambella, Seth learned that Skara was known to the elves as Jasmine, an exile and former Princess. She had attempted to steal an ornate box from the tent of the current Princess Mixi and was thwarted by the presence of the two Psi Corps operatives. Now having knowledge of the demon’s True Name, he now had a plan to capture and question the traitorous witch. Seth asked for some space and began drawing a circle on the ground. Within the circle he inscribed runes that represented certain aspects that he knew would connect the circle to it’s subject. Completing the circle, he sat back and his voice resonating with power called out the True Name of the succubus; Princess Jasmine Gilweyns. The space within the circle wavered for a moment and suddenly the demon appeared inside. The demon’s face betrayed her shock at being summoned, but quickly adjusted to her normal charming mannerism. Skara made a few quips as to her respect for Seth’s abilities and quickly offered to make a deal for her freedom. She confessed to having a piece of critical information and would provide this information as a condition for her release. When pressed, she amended her statement to providing the name of the person who possessed the knowledge of how to deactivate the throne. After some thought, Seth agreed and she handed him a piece of paper with a name on it; ‘ Hephaestus’ *   *   *   *             After about an hour of discussion about what their next steps should be, they agreed that attempting to confront the Titan Hephaestus directly was unwise. With no other options available they decided to elicit assistance from one of the organizations known to act against the Titan’s interests. Ambella had discovered an anti-blood cult group during her initial investigation of the Cult of Quingaul. They discovered a local office and prepared to depart for the surface once more.             Before they could reach the teleportation circle, they received a message from the High Elf camp requesting their presence. Upon arrival, they were informed that something was wrong with Princess Mixi. She had resumed dancing after their earlier encounter and was getting tired from her extended interval of partying. Needing to rest, she found herself unable to stop dancing and her guards were worried.             Seth questioned her guards and based on what he learned he suspected that Skara was likely responsible. According to her guards, the current and former Princess had no interaction whatsoever. Seth realized that both of them had interacted with the box. He and Lord Grey inspected the box and immediately notice a fine layer of wax covering the lip of the box’s cover. Once identified, the curse was simple to break. The Princess thanked them and extended an invitation to enjoy the comforts of her camp any time. *   *   *   *             The information had cost him dearly, but they now had real-time satellite imagery of every Titan on the planet. The anti-blood cult group had provided the information happily, but asked for a sizeable donation as compensation. His mission funds had been reduced by nearly half for that information, but it had been worth it.             The plan had been to draw out the guards at Hephaestus’s workshop by attacking the Titan who appeared to be napping outside of town. Once they left the workshop, Xandar was to enter the workshop and steal the plans. However, even an orbital strike seemed to have no effect on the Titan and it was up to Seth and Ambella to figure out why.             Requisitioning an aerial transport from TAC-55, they flew out to the Titan’s location. What they found was Hephaestus chained to a chair at the bottom of a swamp-water filled crater made by the detonation. After pulling the Titan out, they questioned him and where finally rewarded with a magical device that not only would unlock the bindings on his chair, but could unlock anything. Treasure in hand the group made their way to the teleportation circle once more, in hopes of finally disabling the magical throne that threatened the lives of everyone onboard the party ship.
Session 5: Allying with Titans             Having worked their way back through the city to the warehouse with the teleportation circle, a familiar buzz of magic had them standing on the grass that covered the floor of the ship’s massive hold. Stepping from the magic circle Seth, Ambella, Gill, and Xandar were quickly approached by members of the Dragon Corps. One of the Dragonlings briefed Seth on the current situation and it was not comforting.             In their absence, it seemed a host of demons had somehow infiltrated the ship and had spread out across the already crowded cargo area. Most of the individuals present were highly inebriated or too focused on partying to notice. The Dragon Corps had spread out to keep an eye on the unwanted visitors, mostly as a precaution. They appeared unconcerned about the impending violence. Evidently, there were magical wards that would kill anyone that attempted to commit violence on the ship.             Seth leveled a withering stare at the guards and explained that the magical chair they were trying to disarm was powered by death. “When blood starts to flow, and that will be soon, it will active the chair killing everyone on this ship. It won’t matter if they are friend or foe.” The guards immediately started relaying orders to other security elements to set their weapons to stun and prepare to defend against an assault.             Nodding to the rest of his group, Seth headed off in the direction of the High Elf camp. As they approached, the Royal Guards parted without a word and they continued on to the Princess’ tent. They found Lord Grey still working on modifying the guard’s helmets. Seth questioned him on how much time it would take to finish. The frog-man answered that it would take about twenty minutes. “We don’t have that much time. We have to go.” Lord Grey finished the helmet and handed it to one of the guards.             Seth had more allies he needed to round up, but they were stationed near the chair and he had one more place to visit before heading that direction. He was concerned that by approaching the chair he might set things in motion he was not yet ready to deal with. As the chair was in a direct line with his next destination, he chose a more circuitous route to the tent of Lord Boomba. His caution proved pointless as the groups comm channel came to life.             It sounded as if Corvus and Northorn were being given instructions by a little girl. Her sweet little voice was explaining the process of channeling magic into a stun spell. When the seemingly innocent voice asked them to try it, Seth could see and feel the magic detonations coming from their location. Confused as to how either of them could suddenly use magic, he had a dreadful feeling that the situation had just gotten significantly worse. Thankfully, the exclamations from the crowd near that location were those of surprise and not fear. He still had time.             As the group approached Lord Boomba’s tent, more Dragon Corps stopped them and questioned as to the nature of their business. Seth responded tersely and satisfied with his response they allowed them to enter. The inside, like many of the VIPs present, was another world. The interior was an expansive cave with a number of dwarves milling about enjoying the party. A massive stone colored dragon appeared to be sleeping at the far end of the cave.             Seth advanced through the area, but was quickly stopped by a stocky dwarf. An odd feeling came over him, letting him know that this was a dangerous situation and he would need his precognitive abilities to navigate it effectively. In his mind he played through many variations and eventually realized the dwarf was a distraction. Coming back to the present, the dwarf opened his mouth to speak and stood there, mouth open, as Seth disappeared is a brief flash of heated air. Reappearing a few hundred meters farther into the cave, he approached the sleeping dragon with caution.             As the dragon opened his eyes, Seth presented his request already knowing the dragon would make the deal. Not surprisingly, the dragon was aware of the deal as well. Seth could not afford to take the time to explain the situation and so, offered to open his mind to the dragon. The deal was, the dragon could peruse his mind to familiarize himself with the events of the past week, no more. The dragon agreed.             After a few unsettling moments of another presense shuffling through his memories, Seth felt the dragon leave his mind. “I understand; what do you need from me?” Seth explained he needed a distraction that would give them time to disarm the chair. Boomba nodded and began assembling what appeared to be a potion from various ingredients around the area. When he was finished, he offered the bottle to Seth saying “When you get to the chair, smash the bottle. That should give you the time you need.” Expressing his gratitude, Seth gathered the others and left the tent.             As they hurried towards the chair’s location, Gill explained that he had extracted the Titan tracking algorithm from the data provided by the Anti-Blood Cult group and his data was telling him there were five Titans currently on the ship. Suspicions confirmed, Seth prayed to The Lady of Many Colors that the Titans were not here to interfere and, if so, the concoction given to him by Boomba would give them the opportunity they needed to complete their mission.             Having previously requested the Dragon Corps to established a perimeter around the chair, the group finally reached the wall of beings being held back by the fierce warriors. Passing through the circle of security, he found the only beings present within were the rest of his crew, a large number of incapacitated demons, and the five Titans. As he surveyed the area, a small red-headed girl turned and seeing him, flashed the sweetest smile and began walking in their direction.             Unwilling to interact with the Titan face-to-face, Seth teleported past her and arrived a few meters from the chair. He immediately threw the potion to the ground. Upon impact, a bright light quickly expanded from the point of impact covering the majority of the are surrounding the chair. Looking around, Seth observed that everyone outside the dome of light seemed to be suspended in time while those within were still free to move; including the Titans.             The Titans attempted to convince the group they were there to help. After a brief discussion, Seth gave up the idea he had any say in the matter. Explaining what they knew of the device to the Titans, they came to a consensus. Four glyphs and a single lock were the means to disable the chair. Each of them needed to be opened simultaneously. As they analyzed the device, certain individuals claimed the skill to open specific glyphs. Seth pulled the key obtained from Hephaestus from his pocket and claimed the final lock.             With nothing left to do but the deed itself, each of them applied their skills to their respective tasks. After a couple of minutes of concentration, each glyph winked out of existence as the locked clicked with finality. The chair winked out of existence leaving behind a stunned Touroo kneeling on the grass where the chair had been. The dome of light collapsed and the sounds of the concerned party-goers suddenly filled the chamber.             Seth gathered his people and together, they dispersed into the crowd. A few minutes later they were met by the Traveler. He congratulated them on their success and asked if they had any more business on the ship. Shaking his head in the negative, he experienced a momentary disorientation and found the whole group was back in their tent outside of the cathedral. Seth sat down on one of the cots, relieved. One disaster averted, who knew how many to go.
Session 6: Baffled Priest                 Having finally resolved one of the threats to the Dorian people, the team was ready to execute the next step in their mission; interrogating High Priest Claybourne. They had already prepared for how they would enter the church facility, but they now had to figure out how to question him without creating an incident. Seth was well aware of the possibility that the High Priest was involved and, if so, needed to be dealt with.                 The plan was for Gill to fly them using the party barge, allowing them to enter the church from a balcony on the 11th floor of the church. Once inside, they needed make their way down one floor to the High Priest’s office. To do this unnoticed, Seth had requested Javaknot assault the front entrance of the church as a distraction. Upon confronting the priest, Seth intended to determine if he would be of assistance or a further threat to their operation.                 Arriving at the barge, the succubus Skara was waiting for them. She knew their destination and was impatient to get under way. Seth told her he had no intention of bringing her along, to which she offered a deal; in exchange for taking her with us she would supply the name of her employer. He agreed to the deal.                 Launching the barge, Seth checked to see if Javaknot was in place. The Ajax replied that he was not only ready, but excited to have a piece of the Knights guarding the church. As the group approached, Seth gave the signal to start the assault and the sound of automatic gunfire came from beneath them. Gill expertly navigated up to the building allowing the crew to safely jump to the balcony. They quickly made their way through the empty room, down the stairs, and down the hall to the priest’s office.                 Steeling himself for the encounter, Seth nodded to Xandar. The Raksasha waved his hands over the ornate doors and an unseen force removed them from their hinges allowing the group to enter. Once inside the doors reseated themselves back in their proper place. The priest stood, and with a look of disapproval asked the meaning of their intrusion.                 Seth had prepared for this. He began by asking the priest what he knew about the threat to the Dorian people. As the priest responded to his questions, Seth introduced more information about the threat with each new question. The priest was firmly planted in the idea that his people were in no danger and steadily defended his position. The priest had no idea that Seth was leading him, keeping him on the defensive while slowly working towards his goal.                 As the conversation reached the point where Seth was about to verbally confront Claybourne with his inaction, the doors flew open to reveal two Psi-Corps operatives. One of them demanded they immediately stand down and submit to being taken into Federation custody. Seth refused, and a psychic struggle between two groups ensued. Finally, the mental skirmish was ended when Xandar spoke a Word of Power, one for each of them, freezing them both in place like living statues.                 Seth turned, ready to resume his conversation with the priest, but stopped suddenly. He could sense the presence of powerful magic in the area. Looking to Xandar for confirmation, he could tell by the troubled look that he sensed it too. They heard a crashing sound from the hall and looking out through the now open doors, they saw a horde of undead hobbling quickly towards them.                 Drawing his bow, regretting not having a better weapon for the encounter, Seth quickly launched an arrow at the lead creature, dropping his target and the one behind it. Each of his team drew their weapons and advanced on the walking dead. With no clear shot due to the close quarters, Seth relaxed his bow. As the sounds of tormented moans and decaying bodies hitting the floor filled the room, He took a moment to survey the room.                 Seth noticed that Skara was not engaging in the battle and, in fact, was using the distraction as an opportunity to move closer to the priest. He commanded her to stop and she complied, hands up, and moved towards the wall. Seth kept her against the wall until the fighting was over. Once he received the signal that the area was clear, Seth ordered the room to be secured once more. Advancing on Skara, Seth explained that the conditions for their deal had been met and it was time for her to make good on her promise. She attempted to renege on the deal, saying the conditions had not been met, but finally she leaned forward and whispered in Seth’s ear; the name she whispered was Nepthys. Seth was somewhat unsettled to hear that the succubus was working for a death goddess. The battle over, Claybourne demanded to know why they had brought a demon with them. Seth explained that they had agreed to bring her with them in exchange for information and the terms of that arrangement were complete. The priest questioned Skara with magic, surprising her greatly when she answered his questions truthfully. When the interrogation was over, he waved his hand at her dismissively and she winked out of existence. Not wanting the priest to take charge of the conversation, Seth demanded the priest sit down. A brief contest of wills between the two ended in a stalemate. Impressed, the priest quietly sat down and waited for Seth to continue. Seth proceeded to berate the priest for his lack of vision and disgust to find the Dorian people under such incompetent leadership. The priest took the abuse in stride and had no response to the allegations. Seth had his answer. Looking to Xandar, the Raksasha moved around the priest’s desk and pulled a small object from one of the drawers. “A befuddlement spell” he said, lifting up the small trinket. He took a moment to analyze the item, and with a squeeze of his fist, the object crumbled to dust. As the dust settled to the floor, the priest looked up in confusion and asked what was going on. “That’s what we have been trying to figure out” Seth explained. The priest slid his chair back and reached into one of the drawers in his desk and pulled out a small plaque. Handing it to Seth he explained that the wooden tablet granted him total access to all church assets. Once the item had been taken he requested they leave his office. Seth apologized for his actions and promised that he would resolve the threat in the best interests of the Federation and the Dorian people.   Turning to the now recovered Psi-Corps operatives, Seth told them that as authorized representatives of the Church of Quingaul they had no authority to detain him or his crew. With a smile the lead agent replied that their orders were to detain us if possible, if not, they were to assist. Realizing Seth was operating within the limits of his orders, they agreed to follow his lead. Seth nodded, and indicated that they should leave the priest to his duties.
Session 7: Gods Among Us             Seth was infuriated at the number of people who had been lax in their duty and in doing so, allowed the enemy to worm their way into the cracks formed by such inaction. Fortunately, he had succeeded in bringing many of them back to their senses and applied them to the task at hand. Each one of them would be needed for the battle to come.             They had recently discovered that a being known as Nephthys was behind the attacks on the Dorians. Legend had it that Nephthys was a goddess and as if that were not bad enough, she was known to work with her brother/husband Seth and their son Anubis. All three of them held the title of God of Death. Although the prospect of fighting potential gods was frightening, it at least shed some light on the recent events they had faced. It also gave them a helpful perspective, illuminating what threats to expect in the coming days.             The enemy possessed power beyond anything they could imagine and they required death to accomplish their goals, but for all their power, they wielded it like an axe. They were going around chopping off the limbs of any organization that could offer any resistance to their plans. Fortunately, Seth and his crew were low-level operatives and the enemy could not fathom that they were a threat. His goal was to slowly chip away at the handle of that axe and when the time was right, it would break.             Seth was aware of the enemy’s next target. They intended to cause a catastrophic failure of the city’s power plant, causing massive casualties. He discussed the situation with his comrades and told them of his plan; continue to investigate every lead, but to do so openly. However, they were to stay away from any investigation that would lead them to the power plant.             With the idea of misdirection as his guide, he split his team into four groups, each with their own assignments. While the rest of his team were out performing their tasks, he and Gill made their way to the industrial sector to catch a ride back up to the Goliath. Upon arrival, they discovered that the teleportation circles were in the process of being shut down.             Seth sent a message to Senator Ego requesting an audience and within a few minutes a female dragonling arrived to transport them up to the ship. Arriving in the Senator’s tent, Seth relayed the newest information to the Senator. The dragon thanked him for the information and informed him of the plan to move the ship to a safer location. The Senator also told Seth to expect a gift. *   *   *   *             Back at the tent, Seth used the time he had while his team was out to do some research on the Dorian Chancellor. His investigation uncovered some disturbing data; four of the Chancellor’s personal aides had been abducted recently. Presently, Seth did not have the time to investigate and requested Jandar, Commander of the Dragon Corps to send some of his assets to begin an investigation into their disappearance.             With his tasks finished, Seth waited for the rest of his team to return from their respective missions. Once they had all arrived, Seth was about to brief them on the next step of his plan when he noticed someone who did not belong. A young human in tactical armor with the number ‘85’ stenciled on his chest.             Seth asked the newcomer why he was there, and the young man replied that he had been tasked by TAC-55 to provide tactical support. Seth informed him that if he needed tactical support, he would request it through official channels and the man should return to his command. The man refused, stating he had been given orders to accompany them. Immediately contacted TAC-55, who had apparently been sleeping, he was asked to wait to address the issue until the morning.             The following morning, Seth had a brief conversation with York, the tactical officer, and explained the situation; he was either in, or out. There would be no half measures. He gave York a choice and once it was made, he contacted TAC-55 and briefed him on York’s resignation of his commission and being reassigned to Psi-Corps. The commander took the news in stride and relayed that they had obtained a more permanent headquarters for the team.             Two hours later, the team arrived at their new facility. It was a small warehouse that had been outfitted with all the necessary gear they would need to continue operations. The building came equipped with an aerial transport as well as a number of gadgets necessary to secure the perimeter. Seth set his people to the task of securing the building. They still had just shy of three weeks to accomplish the impossible. There would be some long days ahead.

Session 8: Shards of the Mind             Now having a more permanent base of operations, the group headed to the Hunter’s Bazaar to pick up some new ordnance. Although the new equipment would be useful, the main purpose of this purchase was to appear to be ‘gunning up’ for the battle to come. The purchase included a few sentinel drones, a missile launcher, and some droids to replace the ones destroyed during the assault on the church.             While the crew were evaluating their new gear, Seth was contemplating their next move. It was high time they started taking an active role in this conflict and Seth had a few ideas as to how they could reduce the enemy’s influence. However, in order to plan effectively he needed more intelligence. It was time to visit the offices of the Anti-Blood Cult once again.             Gathering Ambella, Corvus, Northorn, and Xandar, the group headed out to gather the needed information from the local ABC officer. After a half hour of sharing necessary data, Seth’s suspicions were confirmed; Nephthys and her two companions were Titans. In addition, they were given additional intel that indicated that a number of death cults were operating in the area. It was also recommended that they visit a talismonger in the residential district.             Having acquired enough information to move forward, Seth dispatched Ambella and Northorn to the church library for some additional research while the rest headed to the talismonger. After an hour long walk through the city they arrived at their destination. The oddities merchant, Old Joe, provided them with charms that would protect them from evil magic. Thus prepared, they headed back to see what Ambella had discovered. Shortly after leaving the shop, Seth received a distress call from Ambella confirming an attack on her and Northorn at the church. Picking up the pace they soon received another message that the attack had been neutralized. Seth was relieved that his team was safe, but maintained the faster pace due to worries that Ambella might do something unexpected. His worries were further amplified when he received a data dump from Ambella containing the results of her research. Arriving at the church they found Ambella in a reading room off the main room of the library. She was lying in a cot, apparently unconscious, wearing what seemed to be a hospital gown. The High Priest was present as well as TAC-55 and one of his men. When asked what happened, TAC-55 explained that she had been scanning their minds for information and had ended up in her current state. After some intense questioning, Seth discovered that Ambella had been talking to the tactical team about a Federation officer named Stryder. They could remember talking to him, but not where they had done so or what they had discussed. Seth confirmed that the individual was actually an enemy spy. Ambella had decided to enter the minds of the commandos to discover what she could about the spy. During this process she had suffered some form of mental trauma. Concerned with keeping the information in Ambella’s mind from falling into enemy hands, Seth was determined to discover what had happened. Speaking quietly with Xandar, the two of them discussed wards that would protect Seth from outside influence while performing a mind probe. Placing a table and two chairs in the center of the room and drawing arcane symbols around the area, Seth sat at one of the chairs and indicated that Ambella should be placed in the other. As his team moved Ambella from the cot to the chair, Claybourne handed Seth a small stone saying that it would help anchor him to his own mind. With Ambella bound to the chair opposite him, Seth cleared his mind and focused on the task at hand. To enter another’s mind, especially one as disorganized as Ambellas, was fraught with danger. Despite having little experience in this procedure, Seth knew it must be done and quickly. Letting his senses drift from his body, Seth focused on the familiar touch of Ambella’s mind. Opening his mind’s eye, he found himself in a completely white room; a construct within her mind. She was laying on a cot, identical to her real-world circumstance, and standing above her was a black-clad man studying her prone form. Noticing Seth’s arrival, the man flicked his cigarette away from him, smiled, and vanished. It was Stryder Seth approached Ambella and gently shook her awake. She was confused, but quickly figured out her situation. He explained to her that he was only present to be her guide, that she would have to discover a way to escape the mental prison on her own. Over the next several minutes, Seth observed as Ambella relived some of the most treasured and traumatic memories of her childhood. Finally, the two of them worked their way out of the dreamscape, sitting across from each other in the reading room. As the team placed the still unconscious Ambella back on the cot, Seth waved to TAC-55 to take a seat. Seth spent the next half hour probing the minds of the two commandos, trying to cleanse them of Stryder’s influence. Lastly, he had Northorn sit across from him, but quickly determined there was nothing of the spy’s control placed there. *   *   *   *             After returning to their headquarters, Seth had determined to become more active in their mission objectives. Seeing a potential target of opportunity in the death cults he scanned the city map for potential sites they might be occupying. After identifying several, he dispatched teams to recon them leaving one for himself. Gathering his original crew, the four of them headed out to the location under cover of darkness.             They arrived at the graveyard to find it almost completely deserted. A lone figure was wandering the area, possibly searching for something among the graves. Seth had his team wait until the figure departed before entering. The crew spent nearly five hours combing the cemetery for any evidence of cult activity, but in the end found nothing.             As they were leaving, they found the individual that had been wandering the grounds earlier waiting for them. He introduced himself as Oozzo Zudd, a vampire hunter and associate of Senator Ego. Seth talked with Oozzo briefly and discovered an interesting bit of information. The spy they had been dealing with, Stryder, was actually a vampire. Before departing, Oozzo handed Seth a box and said it was a gift from the Senator. His basic description of the contents was a weapon that fired shards of wood and would be useful in taking down Stryder. Taking that bastard down was an appealing thought, but they had to find him first.

Session 9: Down with the Dead              Despite having scouted multiple sites, there was still no sign of any cultists. Having previously identified every cemetery, morgue, hospital, or slaughterhouse in the city, Seth had split his people into teams to observe each site for potential death cult activity. After a full day of recon, they had found nothing. Seth was beginning to get frustrated. They needed intel to keep the offensive phase of his plan moving, but they were quickly approaching the end of the road.             His existing intel had dwindled down to two water treatment facilities rumored to be infested with demons and a vine processing plant that was a point of interest. Knowing his team was not yet prepared for a swarm of demons, he sent a message to Javaknot requesting assistance. The Ajax was more than accommodating. An hour later, he received a message that the two facilities had been cleared and nothing of value was at either location. Down to his last lead, Seth was determined to make the best of it. He assembled his entire team and was prepared to kick the doors down, if necessary, to obtain the required information. *   *   *   *             Standing in front of the processing plant, Seth could feel the presence of magic. His skin had begun to crawl and he had a bitter taste in his mouth. Death magic. He warned his crew to be cautious and entered the building. Using his superior senses, he scanned their immediate surroundings for threats while Xandar used magic to scan deeper into the facility. After a few moments, the Paladin stated that there were three groups of enemies; one group to our left about halfway into the facility and the other two at the far end.             Tactically, it made sense to split up. Seth chose Ambella to lead the second team with Xandar, Canistouris, and Corvus. He kept with him Northorn, Caine, Dred, and Daluth while the four power lords were left to their own devices. He briefed Ambella on his plan to have her flank the closer group and once they advanced on her position to have his team fall on them from behind. They should be able to eliminate the first group before the rest were even aware of them.             As Seth’s crew advanced to their positions, he had a sudden feeling that something was wrong. Despite their stealthy approach, the enemy had detected them and was swarming down the corridor. Accompanied by Ambella’s shouts that they were engaging the enemy, Seth was nearly surrounded by the first wave of enemies. Each group was comprised of three death mages and about a dozen undead minions. Thinking fast, Seth summoned the power of his mind and commanded the nearest death mage to dismiss his minions. The cultist’s sneer of disgust quickly turned to surprise as, with a chant and a wave of his hands, a third of the minions collapsed into a pile of bones.             What little breathing room he had created disappeared in seconds as the undead advanced. He used his powers once again to throw random objects at the shambling corpses keeping them from surrounding him. Hearing the approach of Northorn from behind, Seth attempted to teleport a few meters behind to allow the pyromancer a clear path to the enemy. He instantly regretted that decision as darkness shrouded his vision and pain lanced his flesh from some sort of magical interference.             Shaking off the magical distraction, his vision cleared in time to witness Northorn spew fire from his mouth, engulfing most of the enemy’s ranks. Following the fire, a blur of claws and fur that was Daluth charged in dispatching the remaining creatures with a flurry of crushing blows. As the last of the zombies fell, Seth noticed that Caine and Dred, along with two of the power lords, were holding back a second group and making quick work of them. Ambella shouted over the comms that her group was pushing to the back room.             Seth motioned his team to move into the last room. As they entered, the group noticed another dozen death mages and a familiar figure typing furiously at a computer terminal. Stryder. He looked up at the intrusion and when his eyes met Seth’s, he immediately stepped away from the terminal and commanded his troops to depart and promptly disappeared. The remaining death mages followed his orders and in moments the room was emptied.             Battle over, Seth had his crew spread out and search the facility as he approached the abandoned terminal. Intentional or not, Stryder had left the terminal unlocked. Perusing the files, he found several bank accounts that were awaiting transfer requests. Seth was happy to redirect Stryder’s ill-gotten gains and while he waited for tranfer confirmation he scanned the other files. He found a treasure trove of information on the enemy’s plans as well as a personal file claiming that Stryder had managed to convince a Dragon Corps Overlord to arrest Seth on trumped-up charges of misconduct, abuse of Federation assets, and treason. Realizing that any information obtained from the enemy should be treated as suspect, Seth commed TAC-55 and requested that a courier show up to collect a copy of the data for safe-keeping. He doubted that Stryder had the clout to bring an Overlord, but had every intention of being prepared should it turn out to be true. He knew that if an Overlord did show up, their first action would be to take charge of all ground forces and halt all ongoing operations. Seth was not about to let that happen.

Session 10: Soothing the Sphinx             After the successful recapture of the corrupted vine processing plant from Stryder and his death cult and some well-earned rest, the crew was in the mood to spend some of his ill-gotten wealth. A trip to the black-market bazaar seemed in order. A brief flight out to the swamp with their new ship found them perusing the quasi-legal wares of the various vendors.             Not long into their shopping trip, a massive pulse of magical energy had nearly everyone standing around and staring at each other before quickly packing up their things and getting the hell out of the area. Although it was unlikely that anyone knew the reason for the anomaly, it did not bode well for potential business endeavors. Seth, on the other hand, was fairly certain he knew the source; it was likely the activation of the Northern Portal which signified the arrival of the Overlord.             Seth turned to the nearest vendor and requested camping gear and two weeks of rations for a dozen people. The vendor was about to decline until Seth offered a ridiculous number of credits and he quickly changed his tone. He quickly identified a number of crates that contained the requested goods and returned to packing up his goods. Seth directed his crew to load the gear and prepare to disembark.             While the cargo was being loaded, Seth contacted his allies and informed them his team was going dark. He had Gill disable the ship’s transponder and once the loading was complete, the ship lifted off and headed for a preordained rendezvous point. They waited for near half a day for the rest of the team to arrive. During this time Seth performed an inventory of the supplies and found something unexpected.             In one of the cargo crates they had just purchased was a large walker droid. Surprised at the discovery he gave it to his crew to give them something to do while they waited. Once the inventory was complete, he found his crew gathered around the droid. They informed him that the transponder had been attached to the walker and they had programmed it to walk to the capital city of Oman. Seth gave a nod that it was acceptable.             Once the rest of his team had arrived, it was determined that Caine, Dred, and Lord Grey would head back to Cathedral City. They had limited space on their vessel and it was necessary to send them back to gather intel and lie low until it was clear to operate openly again. It was also decided that the only lead they could pursue and stay off the grid was to go south and investigate the area where one of Nepthys’s generals was rumored to be located. *   *   *   *             As they approached the South Pole, sensors picked up a moderate sized structure about 50km away. There was nothing else out here but vast stretches of vines as far as the eye could see. Seth instructed Gill to approach the site cautiously.             Suddenly, the ship was hit with some sort of turbulence. Seth was fairly certain there were no threats nearby, but something was distressing the ship. He quickly realized, due to the comms cutting out and various ship systems shutting down, that they had hit an electronic suppression field. Gill struggled with the flight controls as York fought to bring the secondary power generator online. A few tense moments later and the ship calmed down.             “I think we have a problem” Gill called over his shoulder. “The console is showing we lost the cargo pod.”             That was a problem. Daluth, Xandar, and Canistouris were too big to fit in the ship and had been placed in the pod with the rest of their gear. Seth had them turn around to inspect the wreckage. Fortunately, their three allies and most of the gear survived the impact. Gill landed the ship nearby and the group discussed their options. It was determined that those that could fit on the ship would continue to the objective, while the others would stay behind and set up an ambush for anyone that might come to investigate the crash. *   *   *   *             Having landed the ship some distance from the facility, they stealthily approached the building on foot. As they neared the structure, they could see a generator struggling to keep up with the power being drawn from it. They could also hear loud death metal coming from inside. Seth requested that York dispatch his spider-bots to recon the inside of the building.             The general was seated on a floating throne and was accompanied by dozens of troops. All of them seemed relaxed and made no effort to guard the building. A massive beast of some sort was slumbering on the far side of the room. The only other feature that was of interest was an inactive portal, and probably how the group had arrived at this location.             Seth pulled out a small stone, that had been given to him by Daluth. Focusing his mind and calling the Ursa’s name, the three they had left behind were suddenly by his side. As he began briefing the three on the situation, he suddenly sensed the presence of a powerful magical entity in the building. Turning back to the live feed from the spider-bots, Seth observed the slumbering creature had woken up and realized that this was no beast; it was a Sphinx.             The Sphinx called out for them to enter, but Seth indicated for everyone to hold their position. When no attack came from the troops inside, he decided it might be appropriate to parlay. York had already disabled the portal and the situation was not going to resolve itself. As he understood it, Sphinx were known to be protectors and it was possible that they could enlist the creatures aid. *   *   *   *             The facility was now empty save for his crew. After explaining the situation, Seth had managed to convince the Sphinx to not only dispatch the general and his troops, but to leave the system for a more hospitable locale. As usual though, the resolution of one problem usually created more. The presence of an unsecured portal, regardless of the fact that it had been disabled, was a problem.             As if to reinforce the troubling thought, the portal began screaming in alarm. Someone was trying to activate it. Seth’s vision blurred for a moment as a vision of the future layered itself over the present. The portal activated and a veritable army of undead began entering the facility. His people fought valiantly, but one by one they fell to the enemy. The pain of his own death lingered for a moment as reality settled back into place. So much for going dark. Seth instructed Gill to head out to the ship and send a message to the Dragon Corps.   *** PRIORITY MESSAGE *** unsecured portal at south pole / psi-corps team on-site / coordinates to follow / portal disabled locally / attempt to activate from off-planet / request reinforcements *EOM*               You can say one thing about the Dragon Corps; their response time is impressive. Minutes after the transmission was sent, incoming ships were filling the sky. Once landed, they immediately demanded that the team disarm and Seth was detained. Leaving the rest of his crew on the ground, he was transported to a ship and presented to none other than Overlord Bloodbane.             Seth was given the opportunity to debrief the Overlord and after about 30 minutes, was ordered to continue mission. He was transported back to the surface and his team. An assault force was assembling inside the facility and it appeared they were going to activate the portal. Seth quickly gathered his people, and collecting the floating throne, left the Dragon Corps to their duties.             As he was pondering how to load the throne onto their ship, he was approached by another Dragon Corps Commando. He told Seth that they should collect their belongings and depart. With a questioning look to the commando, he was told they were being authorized a more appropriate vessel, pointing at one of the assault vessels they had arrived in. With a shrug, Seth instructed his crew to gather all their belongings and relocate to the awaiting ship.
