Hey there, Rollers of 20. Josiah, experienced DM here. I'm looking to start up a run of the new adventure, Dungeon of the Mad Mage, here on Roll20. I'll be using the official Roll20 version of the adventure with all the bells and whistles. Dynamic lighting, maps, tokens, all that good stuff. It's a really cool adventure, massive, with an enormous amount of dungeon crawling action. But despite that, it's actually not just a hack-and-slash. It is surprisingly chock full of roleplaying opportunities, with a huge number of intelligent NPCs to meet and interact with. Lots of combat can be avoided, friends can be made, factions sided with, quests obtained in unexpected places, and so on. The game will be run without house rules of any kind, and the adventure as close to "as written" as possible. Characters can be made using material in the Player's Handbook, Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide, and Xanathar's Guide to Everything, no other sources, and everyone will begin at 5th level. The game is set in the Forgotten Realms, starting in the city of Waterdeep. What I'm looking for is a small group of players who are reliably available to play for at least six hours per week, and who enjoy in-character roleplaying. By that I mean, speaking as your character, describing your character's actions in a more narrative style, and making decisions in game based on your character's concept, personality, beliefs, and goals. Since there will still most likely be plenty of combat, I'd like players who also enjoy that part of the game, and don't mind spending a good amount of time in battle. I might actually have one or two friends who can play, so it's possible that I only need one or two more people here. The timing of the sessions is to be determined, and will be worked out according to the schedules of the players who are chosen for the game. I'd like to have at least one six-hour session per week, or two shorter sessions, if that works better for people. Voice chat is strictly required, meaning that you will need to use Discord and a working microphone. You should also be comfortable actually speaking up, including talking in-character. I want everything out loud, rather than actions or dialogue typed in the chat box. The game will also be streamed live on Twitch, and posted to YouTube. We will not be using webcams, however. This is a completely free game. I've been DMing for 30 years, and I am a very pro-roleplaying, player-friendly DM. I like to describe things evocatively, use a wide variety of voices and speaking styles for NPCs and monsters, emphasize the social aspects of the game, and encourage and reward creativity. I am on the side of the players, not in an adversarial role, and want everyone to have fun, to feel able to participate, and to get into character freely. I also run a table where people of all walks of life are welcome, and any form of discriminatory speech is not tolerated. If you're interested, drop me a message with your name, general availability times, and what kind of character you're thinking about playing. I'm not really interested in joke characters or evil characters. Experience with 5th edition, or with D&D itself, is not required, as I'm happy to teach you how to play. Experience with some form of in-character roleplaying is preferred. The more you tell me about your roleplaying style or character concept, the more likely I am to invite you to play.
