Newbie looking for D&D mentor

I’m brand new to the site and to D&D but I’m trying to learn. Its pretty overwhelming trying to get started and I am hoping to find an experienced player or DM who is willing to be my friend and answer some newbie questions for me. I’m kinda of a creative overthinker and would love to chat with someone and ask questions as I think of them. :).  Anyone willing to help me? Thank you!

Are you intending to join D&D games as player, or start to run a game yourself? I'd suggest you'd take a look at the Introduction to TTRPGs  wiki article and then after getting some feels and undestanding what ttrpgs are about, you should try out the Roll20 interactive tutorial  to get familiar with Roll20 as a platform and a tool.
You Tube has thousands of hours of D&D games. Watch some of those and you should have a pretty good idea of what to do. Look for games that welcome newbies, I would say one shots and short campaigns are best as you not only need to learn the mechanics, but also need to find a group and GM that are compatible with you. There are almost as many styles of play as there are GMs.

Add to the fact there are growing social communities on Roll20 that focus on specific styles of play or systems. I'm the host of a text based community (no mics or cameras) that support and help each other while text based game recruitment is based in the community's forums.
Thank you all, I will do some more reading.

Just a reminder to folks to please keep commentary focused on the Roll20 aspect of things.  There are many places to discuss GMing in general. From the Roll20 Community Code of Conduct : The Roll20 Forums exist to discuss topics directly related to the use of the Roll20 program. Anything that more fittingly could be discussed on another website SHOULD be discussed there.

Regarding DMing on Roll20: If you're new, familiarize yourself with how tokens and the layers work, and how to transition between them.  If you use fog of war/dynamic lighting/line of sight, [CTRL-L] when you have a player token selected is your friend in testing.  Be careful of page size and organization: Large pages eat memory, lots of pages are hard to organize. You don't have to build everything if you have "location" maps to go with a low-detail different-scale "overland" map.  Make game notes with text on the GM layer - that way you'll have descriptions right there visible to you but not the players.  Use handouts to take notes, not just to make notes for players.  Vary the terrain for player combats - let the environment become a character, and let different characters shine (your archer does well in open terrian, how does he do in a city or catacomb environment?)  Be ready for players to question/investigate EVERY DETAIL you put in a map. So have a reason for each map choice, at least in your own head.  If you have multiple pages planned for a session, have them grouped close so there is not a long delay moving the player ribbon through several screens.

Should I delete my post?

Don't delete it, this have alreada a few good answers to your question and can serve well for other's who might ask the same question, and happen to search the forums before submitting their own. Beside, thread would have been locked/deleted if it was completly wrong.
Thank you Andreas J! 😊

Should I delete my post?  You did not break any rules as you are asking a question about how to use Roll20. GenKitty was just reminding people to keep it about Roll20 usage and anything else should be discussed on other sites that are more for that. If you have questions about how to do X in Roll20, ask them. If you have questions about how to do X in System Y, that needs to be asked elsewhere. If you just want to chat, that needs to be posted elsewhere. With all that said, you should take a look through the LFG search engine  and look for communities (these are generally large groups of several hundred members) and usually have in their description about what they are. I'm the creator of a community on Roll20 that is aimed at supporting the playstyle of text based games (link is in my profile) but there are communities for various systems, playstyle, and other. As those communities are considered private groups (you have to be invited in), their rules (if they have any) are looser than in the public forums which means you could ask questions about systems and how to use them. Some of them have chat servers also.

If your post was breaking rules, I would have already addressed that with post edits or post removals, and Private Messages.  :) Pat S has a very good summary on what is on-topic for Roll20 so I'll just point at that, and direct y'all to carry on.
