Have
you ever wanted to be able to see if your character could change a
world, or enforce the status quo against radical opposition? Are you the
kind of immersive role player that revels in high levels of simulation
and complexity with a living, breathing world? Then I have to introduce
you to my world! I would suggest you read the following information, but a link to the LFG and the relevant threads can be found here . I
am searching for two players to add to my
long-running dnd homebrew campaign. It is a tough, yet elegant and
richly detailed world. The campaign features many common economic,
societal, and political norms drawn from 10th Century European and
Mediterranean cultures. This campaign is not for people who are new to
rpgs, unless they have a method acting background as, while there is a
lot of combat, what you say and do/don't do have a much weightier
effect. This game is one where heroic action will require you, the player, to be heroic. You will be a piece of a world much larger than yourself, and as in real life, doing the uncommon and the heroic take the emotional grit and fortitude to do uncommon things. This game does not assume you are special; it demands that you and your pc become so. The
game takes place on a continent called Erren, some 70 years after a war
between empires ended in a cataclysmic explosion which altered a good
portion of the land. As you might imagine, 70 years is just enough time
for the shorter-lived races to begin to heal, but great tensions still
remain in the uneasy peace that followed. Complete with highly detailed
pantheons, cultures, species, and organizations, Erren is a dangerous
and wonderful place where the talented adapt and overcome, the wealthy
live in their ivory towers, and the rest suffer what they must. This
world has great spots of culture and joy, but there is also much in the
way of chaos within and without the remnants of nations. The
group has struggled from lowly beginnings at level one, to their
current place between 16th and 20+ levels. Even now, where most dnd
campaigns begin to peter out, the team have really only just completed
what I would consider the "Prologue". They are truly powerful forces in
their own right, but it is clear just how far down the pole they are in a
world where the eminent powers have to account for beings of their
power. To be clear, if you wish to join the group, the assumption is not
that you ARE a hero, but that you COULD become one. Everything has
fairly rational reasons for existing and this campaign is aimed for
post-level 20 play. There are few cr balanced encounters, because what determines the enemies you face in combat is largely the environment the party is traversing, and your own decisions in terms of conflict. There is no level gating like you would see in an mmo, for example. If you lack the ability to notice setting and plot details, you
will probably fare poorly. However, if you are socially proficient yourself, or if you have a knack for planning your way around corners and obstacles, you might just be our newest epic addition. If you give
the campaign a chance you will thrive as you overcome obstacles,
opponents with rationales of their own, and forge your legacy. Our team
has wandered unintentionally into epic geopolitical struggles, been
entwined in far-reaching schemes, conquered a mighty and nearly mythical
fortress in a pocket dimension, dealt with true deities, and narrowly
escaped certain destruction. Not for the
weak of heart, and for those who hate heavy rp, this campaign will cause
you to truly become in tune with your character as you discover what
drives you. One of the most common comments for players has been that
they love the depth of the world, but truly had no concept as to how
deep they would have to understand the differences between their pc and
their own personal values. The world is morally grey, despite having
many creatures and magics that effect black and white alignment. The
ability to understand a cultural perspective synthesized from many cultures circa 700 AD to 900 AD sometimes clashes with reasonable 21st century values. This game
has shining examples of commonly held western values, but they are
relatively few and far-between; you will likely encounter potentially
uncomfortable topics that may not vibe well if you cannot entertain
opposing ideas. So, be cautious when applying if you aren't sure you are
okay with that, or PM for more clarification. What to expect from Character Creation: As
story driven elements and the tension among many of the races are
central to the storyline, your initial characters are limited in choices
of race. You are permitted to apply with characters from the following
races: Elf, Dwarf, Half-Orc, Human, and gnome. Additional races are at
my discretion. Due to the current war and its atrocities, it is highly suggested that elves and half-orcs will have 24/7 suspicion and hatred. As such, anyone playing those two races will need to understand that they will face intense and persistent difficulty in progressing. All feats require dm approval. Since
the campaign is well under way, we are looking for characters with
neutral or chaotic good alignments, and who are open to having things
added to their backstory to connect them to individual characters
already in the cast. Xanathar's is generally considered off-limits, or to be found in the course of adventuring, not as a default right. Does your world differ mechanically or otherwise from DnD? Yes.
In this world, the schools of magic technically work the same, but
component rules are heavily enforced. Additionally, when choosing
magics, do make sure to check how the relevant cultures treat said
magic. I.e. some of the churches frown on resurrection magics, often
labeling practitioners as heretics. In this world, the only high
nobility are those with major magic. All magical families have noble
blood, though it is not always their focus. One other note is that all
magic in dnd works as written, but this world has powers that persist in
spite of those magics. Do understand that the national authorities are
plenty prepared when it comes to dealing with certain types of magic,
though only a few entities would be considered close to all-knowing. What would your players tell us? "
This campaign has been one of the most challenging and fulfilling I
have ever played in and I have been in many the last few decades. The
world is incredibly detailed and there are cities, towns, peoples,
customs, even entire countries our party doesn't know about that are
fleshed out and alive and well(hopefully?). **(** Dm note: Some of the party actions may have killed off some important species) There
is a complex level of politics in many cities and it is attuned to
their different cultures, races, and beliefs. We have experienced some
great triumphs and hardships from our political maneuverings and
missteps - but it has all been in good fun and has colored the story in a
very real way. Our encounters with deities have done even more so. I
will not underplay the difficulty level of this campaign, hell, I have
been thriving on it, thirsting for it - every... single... week. I have
gone out of my way many a time just to be sure i miss nothing(that
includes calling in sick for work and fighting through tokyo rush hour
train traffic at berzerk speed). This campaign is an arena where you can
put your roll-playing, your social skills, and your tactical combat
skills to the test. I
play our barbarian/fighter and he was not born an incredibly smart man.
I enjoy trying to make choices he would make based on his limited
knowledge or gut feeling(sometimes his big mouth gets us in trouble, but
it is nothing we cannot handle and it often leads to additional comedic
gold). I would recommend this campaign to any adventurer who is
experienced enough and is looking for a "next-level" of D&D that
surpasses just grinding quests and smashing zombies. We have lost some
players due to deployments, employments, and unknown tragedies over the
last couple of years. We are looking for new heroes to pick up their
dicebags and suit up for something more advanced than your typical
D&D game. Join us! and if you have any questions about our players
and/or characters, do not hesitate to ask! " Cornelia Beaumont - Party Mage, Noblewoman, Generally the Brains of the outfit. "
If you’re the type of player that likes to spend an absurd amount of
time writing about your character’s inner monologue, you’ll probably fit
right in. If you’re the type of player that likes to comb through the
DM’s words thrice to find the hidden stack of nuclear material to make
into your own bomb, you’ll fit right in. The
joy of this game comes in the challenges and the details. The
challenges can come in RP, puzzles, dungeon crawls, mass battles, or
even in a mundane conversation between nobles. It is not for everyone,
so read through and see if this is the type of game you’ll like to play.
My character has gone through a lot of growth, but she’s also human,
and sometimes that means she can get lost. The snippet is from my
character’s point of view and you can have an idea of what to expect. This
game has a lot of defeats and a lot of losses, and the resilience to
endure those with a shimmering fury hidden behind a veil of cool
indifference is key to not only surviving but thriving in the game.
Probably the majority of the defeats and losses in this game is self-inflicted , and teamwork and caution is crucial. If you have neither those traits and the resilience, you will probably dislike this game intensely." Thank
you for taking the time to read this! I know most people won't, so
thank you very much to the interested minds who do consider us. Please post questions or pm me for more
details. IF YOU MADE IT TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS YOU ARE THE KIND OF PERSON WE WANT! Follow the listing post here , and if we select you, you may start with up to one additional magic item of my design based on your character backstory. This is very good as magical items are incredibly rare for those not already in power.
