After a short rest, you make your way to what appears to be another shrine. You climb over stairs that lead to the main thoroughfare in the city and arrive at the shrine from the north. There is no entry to the shrine on this side so Besh leads the way to skirt around to the east of the building, but as he passes a ruined wagon, two Kamadan launch from underneath it and attack. They have some sort of breath weapon that puts two of you to sleep. You can only be wakened by very vigorous shaking. Orvex, much refreshed after a nights sleep shows his spellcasting prowess and hypnotises the two creatures. You decide to leave quickly and make your way to the front of the shrine, noting that there are a number of cubs also hiding under the wagon. A ruined shrine stands at the heart of a walled compound. Tall monoliths flank the entrance, decorated with images of a jaguar with six snakes sprouting from its shoulders. Orvex and Besh find an inscription on one of the monoliths. Translated it reads, "Shagambi teaches us to fight evil with honor". Reliefs on the monoliths show Shagambi overseeing Chultan warriors as they train with spears and swords. Steps descend into a fifteen-foot-high, moss-covered but otherwise clean room. You descend and see four statues of Omuan warriors stand in alcoves to either side, overlooking a barred gladiatorial pit in the floor. Each statue looks like it was meant to hold a spear, but its weapon is missing. On the far side of the chamber, a stone pedestal stands conspicuously bare. A relief on the wall behind it shows a monstrous jaguar with six snakes protruding from its shoulders, fighting off a squat, frog-like humanoid armed with a spear. To the left of the relief is a narrow tunnel with stairs leading down. The wall relief depicts a kamadan fighting a grung. Just below, an inscription written in Old Omuan tells this story: A brave kamadan hopped down from her rock. She saw the evil in the Omuans' hearts and decided to lance it like a troublesome boil. The kamadan fashioned a holy spear, but she left it by the riverbank and a crafty grung stole it. In her rage, Shagambi the kamadan forgot all about the Omuans and chased Nangnang the grung forever across the sky. You inspect the pedestal, and note a stone hatch in the top. As you are examining it, Besh wanders further into the complex and finds himself in the gladiator pit under the main shrine. He steps into the bottom of the pit and hears a click. Suddenly there is a loud clanking and clattering sound followed by loud footsteps. Four chultan gladiators made of painted clay enter the pit. Each gladiator is a golem-like creature with a bronze spear in one hand and a wooden shield in the other. The battle is joined. Besh attacks and casts a spiritual weapon spell, but both these seem to have little impact. Grizz Lee transforms into an Octopus that reaches down better the bars of the pit to attack the warriors on the ground 15 feet below. The first golem steps forward and stabs Besh three times in quick succession. Besh falls to the ground, unconscious and bleeding. Two golems walk up the vertical wall, stabbing Grizz Lee and ending his tranformation. The first two golems step over Besh's body and walk into the main area of the temple. Grizz Lee casts a healing spell to restore Besh and moves out of the reach of the two golems remaining in the pit. However those two golems return to the bottom of the pit again where they quickly dispatch Besh and also head out into the main temple area. You all suddenly realise that this battle is probably beyond your ability. Orvex turns invisible and hides behind a statue and Trayzeal finds himself backed into a corner. Grizz Lee summons 8 axebeaks to assist. Not all of them can fit in the shrine so he summons the 8th axebeak just outside where it is immediately attacked by the kamadan outside and disappears. The golems are quickly dispatching the axebeak and you begin talking of retreat. Grizz Lee cannot leave Besh however, so he shrinks to a smaller size, climbs through the bars of the gladiator pit and climbs down to Besh where he heals him. Trayzeal cast a darkness spell on the area above the pit floor and then exits the shrine. The kamadan are gone, so he hides in a bush. Seeing no-one left in the shrine area, the golems start heading down the corridor towards the gladiator pit area. Besh and Grizz Lee climb up the pit walls and hang from the bars in the magical darkness. They hear the golems pass below them and back into the area from which they first emerged. There is then another clattering sound and then quiet. You realise that they have probably reset to their starting position. There is no way Besh will fit through the bars with his shell, so you lower yourselves to the ground. When you step of the floor of the pit there is a loud click followed by a clattering and clanking sound. Then you hear the footsteps of the four chultan warrior golems and you flee from the shrine, meeting with Orvex and Trayzeal outside. Even though it is only lunchtime you are exhausted and hurt, so you find a nearby building to hide in and start tending your wounds.  The building you have chosen overlooks a lake far below filled with bubbling lava. Looking further out you can see a group of small strange plant like creatures carrying a bound grung onto a small area overlooking the lava. They dance around it ceremonially and then roll him over the edge of the cliff and into the lava below. They are so caught up in the fervour of the occassion that a couple of the creature leap in after the grung, caught in the throes of devotion. You decide to not get involved. You stay in the ruined house until the next morning without any problems.
