New DM, Need Help

I know I've been around for awhile but I'm trying to get into DMing. I'm planning on getting a paid roll20 account next month but I'm trying ot make a few maps NOW, before I start my campaign. Sadly, when trying to place dungeon tiles, I seem to only have 6 specific room tiles. No empty rooms, no hallways, no plain stone or anything. Am I just not seeing them? Or do I need to pay before I get any of the more useful tiles?

Free tiles are very limited in type and amount. Purchasing a subscription will increase the tiles some but most purchase tile packages from the marketplace which are not dependent on subscription level.

Note that you dont need to buy a subscription to use marketplace stuff. Also, if you use the google, you might find artwork for maps, tehre are a buncg of rpg art sites out there.

When I said some, it does not mean a bunch ( like hundreds) but only a handful and I think that is at the pro level also. GIGs has a good suggestion and checkout the Roll20 marketplace for tiles in style you like if you are wanting to go that route. Just remember that items purchased on Roll20 do not count against your storage quota but anything you upload does.
Purchased maps are generally a good buy.  No work necessary to get them to work.  Although each person's available capital is different as well as what is a good value :)

I suggest using an art program to make maps though. Then upload the whole map image once it is done.

Yeah but I can't draw for beans :( I've tried a map generator but getting it to match up square-for-square is a headache.

I find most of my maps online (i'm also a patron to several map developers) I tend to prefer using full maps over tile sets and the like. I may add small art here and there but typically i find them using google or the creators i support. I have collected several thousand maps and assets over my time as a DM it just builds over time.

Check the Game Resources page on the wiki for some ideas. Some of the maping tool can be accessed int broswer for free and contains a good bit of art by themselves to create nice maps.
