As the title. Clicking normally just causes the text box to appear and immediately disappear. In order to actually type, I have to hold down LMB and type with one hand.

I am also experiencing this bug. You can work around it until it's fixed by typing any character while you hold the mouse button down, then switching to the cursor tool and double clicking to edit the new text. Very, very annoying.

This is a known bug reported in quite a number of threads, which seems to be related to a recent update of Chrome. In addition to the workaround that DJ posted, you can also use Firefox to avoid the issue.
