rating system for pay to play gms

ive been dabbling in pay to play for about a month and the gap in gm ability is pretty much on par with any free to play campaigns ive been involved in. I personally would like a rating system in place so i could easily sort the grain from the chaff, since they are asking for payment its only fair we have some idea as to skill level and competency going in. Of course only allowing players who actually join the campaign for at least a session to leave a rating. having the ability to sort by rating would be nice indeed. (or even just a way to leave a review and maybe a like dislike button)

As per the following threads (among several others), that's never going to occur: https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/4221695/ https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/4237753/
this wouldnt be a system for rating general player or free to play gms, rather it would be targeting for the "pros" of the space. I suppose you could allow a free to play gm to opt in however as soon as you indicate your charging for a seat the ratings start. you avoid most abuses by only allowing people who have actually played in a session to rate so the only people rating would be the ones who actually paid for a session and sat at the table. right now the entire burden is on the player with zero ability to know if a game is worth their time and money or just a waste of both. once you factor in character generation and prep time you could easily have wasted 5 hours not to mention the stipend you had to pay for the seat, there should be a way to mitigate at least a tiny bit of the risk involved.

Allowing people to ascribe a rating to other people is not something The Powers That Be really want on Roll20, even though I understand why it would be useful to weed out toxicity in peer-driven games like tabletop. This type of feature can and has been very easily abused before. On toxic users though, that is why our dev and mod team is here. They absolutely want to weed out toxic users and abusive users but rating is not the way to do that. Reporting toxic behavior is.
