My friend and myself have been passionate players of D&D for over 7 years now, with me as the DM. Our campaign has lasted through 5 years, and is still running but currently in a hiatus. We decided to look for new people and a new DM so this time both him and me can be players. Even though I am a DM with years of experience, that doesn't mean I know all the rules and play by the book at all times. We never really bothered to examine every single rule in the books, because we were used to just painting the picture with our words, and explaining with maximum details our actions, resulting with me as the DM doing a lot of improvisational dice rolling and rule adapting, but it was all working out for us very nicely and we never had problems with our own style. Which is why I also consider this as an opportunity to learn from a DM who is maybe more familiar with rules, or not, either way we will be very adaptive to the play style. My friend's character would be a human fighter, or perhaps a knight-like character or hexblade etc. depending on the rest of the party and the DM. My character would be a shadow rogue or a spellthief, or a paladin of freedom, again depending on the rest of the party and the DM. ( Ultimately, if we don't find a DM who would agree with these choices, we can keep it simple and just choose core races and classes) We are both from Belgrade, Serbia (CET) and are open for weekly sessions, or when we all agree upon as a group.
