Custom Game System Compendium License

Hey, I've been working on a completely custom system for a number of years. The universe and setting is also of my own making. All this content is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license. I'm hoping that at some point I can create a compendium for Roll20, but  I saw that Roll20 only allow compendiums that are licensed under OGL. Is this the case indefinitely, or will this change at some point in the future?

It has been a long-suggested and requested feature, but there has been no answer better than "we'd like to, but there are significant roadblocks". Some of it is due to concerns over piracy. Having seen the back end, I can also attest that the compendium is not easy to create or edit.

Here is the latest official response . You can add your vote to the suggestion if you like, but it probably has as many votes as it needs in order to stay alive and maintain itself as a strong user desire.

Before considering creating a Roll20 compendium for the game, you'd probably want a character sheet for it first, before considering a compendium(Assuming it functions anything like the majory of ttrpgs or the games that currently have compendiums). Even ignoring the thing about "Creative Commons vs. OGL", it takes effort to create a compendium for Roll20. To my mind, the fact that the existing compendiums on Roll20(free or paid) are mostly just from the larger publishers, is an indication that "compendium creation" for most games developed by independent solo-creators, is currently out of scope when it comes to work/time/costs. Is this the case indefinitely, or will this change at some point in the future? Note: Keith was talking about Custom compendiums, the kind that each user or player could create for themselves and use in their personal games, while I was talking about the  official, published compendiums Roll20 currently have, such as the one for D&D5E. So in conclusion, it's likely that a Roll20 compendium for your game is not going to be a possibility in the near future whether we're talking about a published or private compendium, and that is still assuming that the thing about licensing is in your favour. If your game doesn't have a character sheet or you'd want the compendium to work well with one, it's also possible you're getting ahead of yourself, as character sheets aren't an easy thing either.

Been working through quite a bit of it thus far. I'm a programmer and freelance web developer, so it's not difficult at all. That said I do see your point about compendium, and after reading the first 2 replies by @Keith I decided to forget about a compendium for now and just make sure I've got good character sheets and macros in place that will compliment my system.

Since its your system, you dot have to worry about copyright issues and can encode as much data as you like in the sheet workers. You can avoid the need for a compendium that way.
