Story Story Pitch: “The Masquerade” is a homebrew adventure set in a world with many names. Each equally valid as the world has yet to ‘find’ itself. Where becoming an explorer is not a task for the faint of heart. Indeed it is met with many risks, but all potentially yielding grandiose rewards. It is here the “travelers” take the mantle of connecting the world and creating some sense of homogeny amid the Age of Discovery . Within this world, there are traces of Eberron , as well as low - high fantasy settlements. You will need a diverse toolkit to tackle this challenge as their are bits of noir, espionage, maritime travel, dungeon delving, wilderness survival, and of course requiring great investigative skills as you uncover the conspiracy of “The Masquerade.” Story Structure: A non-linear adventure where the “travelers” are the focus of the story; It’s through them we explore the inner-conflicts of their own lives, and their own challenges trying to make their mark in the ever-changing landscape. This adventure is not your standard run of the mill adventure as it tackles themes across multiple sects of the world - might you be pursuing forbidden lore, sealing cosmic aberrations into the fabric of the universe, infiltrating a nefarious guild that conspires to imbue its members with dead gods, or smuggling into dangerous scapes to uncover the remnants of lost societies. Who I am looking for: I am looking for players that seek great roleplay opportunities - players that get lost in the world, and their interactions. Where combat isn't just "I cast Fireball..." but rather, you have your chance to engage the curiosities of your group mates. For example: PC: The air bends around Ajax's fingers, compressing tighter... and tighter as his hands diligently shape the air into a bead. Holding the circulating ball to his lips as a puff of fire swallows the air and illuminates his grip before discharging the spell into the ogre charging him. DM: The Ogre's eyes grow wide as within moments he is engulfed in a blaze - the ground forming a slight dome of caramelized earth as the Ogre welps in agony. As the smoke rises from where the ball impacted, he leaps forward covered in ash. His eyes glazing over in blood lust, narrowing in focus like a predator as he cocks his weapon to the side, gripping it in both palms and clearing more distance in his primitive rage. Eventually mounting the earth with solid footwork before the wizard and hammering him with the blade. PC: Ajax's amulet glistens as a translucent set of armor forms...-
DM: The Ogre's blade buries deep, and is fixed in the newfound armor! He begins to smash the blunt hammer of his axe trying to bury his weapon deep into the mage. He releases his grip and interlocks his fingers smashing down on it one last time... Causing a slight fracture to the mages collarbone. PC: Ajax tries to concentrate knowing that if his magic falters, all advantages against the ogre will pass. Leaving him to his dexterity to avoid the next onslaught. Ajax focuses, but it is lost with pain in the removal of the Ogre's axe. The expectation isn't that you are perfect, or as detailed... But that you try as we all do to immerse one-another. :) Background *recommendations*/restrictions : This game will use a balance of user created content, as well as my own. So if you had a concept in mind I’ll do my best to fit it into the world. Eberron setting: If you wish to include Eberron into your background, it will take place in select portions of the game and not in the entirety of it. Places may draw influence from historic Faerun/Eberron locations. Campaign Setting: Because the world is disjointed and uncommunicative with each other there will be a mix of low-to-high fantasy scattered across the world. Technologies varying depending on what sect of the land you visit. A lot of lands emphasize the repurposing of technology Tl;dr Allow your imaginations to flow, create a character before you create a class! Story Specific: Variant Rules Experience Leveling: You will receive varying experience based on Roleplay, Combat, Encounters, and Strategy . Crafting Magic Items (DMG p264) - A lot of focus on re-purposing technology. Hero Points (DMG p264) Healer’s Kit Dependency (DMG p266) - To create more immersion in the setting. Slow Natural Healing (DMG p267) Equipment Sizes (PHB p145) Multiclassing (PHB p163) Luck (Homebrew) : CHA Mod x 15 = [Luck Score]; similar to Call of Cthulhu “Pushing Luck” mechanic. Character Building Level You will begin the game at level 3 - Starting equipment, roll for gold. Races/Classes I *generally* accept all races / classes, just run it by me beforehand. Stat Rolling 4d6 (Drop Lowest 1 or (4d6kh3)) - Roll 7 times (Drop Lowest one) HP Roll HP at all levels (Re-roll 1’s and 2’s once per level-up ). Character Specific: Variant Rules Feats: Enabled Unearthed Arcana: Enabled 3rd Party / Homebrew Class Archetypes (Run by me beforehand) Gun / Gunslinger: Enabled Table Rules/Myself Myself: Experienced DM/Player of over 9 years, mainly playing Pathfinder, 5e, and Call of Cthulhu. I generally play more to the story/role-play encounters but have more than enough experience with skills/combat to appease that crowd as well. - I am a horrible drawer, but that doesn’t stop me from trying! - I am a firm believer in puns, and irony - users beware. - I do voices - I use Discord primarily - I have a general rule of thumb: "Be nice, and have fun! But not at the expense of others." - PVP is allowed, however you need the consent of both members OOC before pursuing your "duel." - Rule discussions will take place after the game; only taking priority in the game if it is a question or misinterpreted with a quick turnaround. If it isn’t a consensus I will make a best judgement call, and move on. For more details, please contact me! (PM works best!)
