Dark Souls 3 - 5E Adventure

December 14 (1 day ago) Branden W. Permalink   Quote   Edit   Close   Sink   Sticky   Delete Hello and thank you for your interest! I'm looking for 4-6 players to join me in playing an original interpretation of the world and story of Dark Souls 3. Here are the details: Players must choose human as their race and are undead in addition to their race. Before session 1 you will be choosing a covenant for your character to follow. Blue Sentinels, Watchdogs of Farron, or Warriors of Sunlight. Further covenants are available as you progress through the adventure. In the discord will be descriptions of the benefits and goals of your covenant. When developing your backstory be mindful that you have forgotten your past and will discover it over the course of the adventure.  Players will roll 4d6 for stats, dropping their lowest number. I improvise critical successes and critical fails. Rolling a critical fail will result in the worst possible (but fair) outcome so be prepared for that. I use music, tokens, maps, and artwork to immerse the players in the adventure. The world will NOT play like a video game so don't expect us to be walking through linear "levels". There will be villages, dungeons, and exploration like any other fun D&D adventure.  Please leave a brief description of what you enjoy in a game of D&D, what you expect out of your DM, and what character you'd like to play. If you have no knowledge of the Dark Souls universe that's okay! New players are welcome.
I look for a good mix of combat, role play, and storytelling. Immersion is fun. I would probably play a paladin, and would praise the sun! I know and have played a bit of dark souls, and I’m fairly experienced in 5e. I love the aesthetic and what lore have gleaned from dark souls 3. I am available after 7pm est any day.
I'm just looking for a fun game with cool people an a DM who has a good balance of knowing the mechanics but also likes to do their own thing as well. I'd probably play as a barbarian because well I love playing barbarians. I know very little about dark souls but know generally what it's about and whatnot.

What I enjoy in a game of D&D: Being wrapped up in something that feels larger than yourself. You might not see the big picture at the beginning, but every step along the way immerses you more (even if, and maybe especially when, those steps are a desperate flight for your life). Ah, and a good, gritty setting is always nice. DM expectations: Challenging combat. Just like Dark Souls, there is always a way to prevail, but care, precision, and solid tactics are the hallmark of success. It's a difficult balancing act for sure, but man is it rewarding when a DM can find that balance. In addition, having a DM who can spin a good yarn is a total blessing. Definitely not required, but a good story is really what we're here for, right? Character: Assuming UA is on the table, then a Human Rune Knight Fighter (lore adapted to the setting) would be the definite front-runner. Fits the fantasy, and you gotta love the team-oriented mechanics. If we are talking official, then a shepherd druid (RP'd as a paganistic shaman perhaps?) might be the way to go. It's a punishing world, so having someone around who can bring you back from the brink before the next campfire is a valuable friend indeed. Or shadow sorcerer/grave cleric, because Dark Souls.

What I enjoy in a D&D game: I actually have not gotten to play D&D a lot, so most of what I have gotten to enjoy is theory experimenting ideas for characters and possible builds for really random and specific ideas. DM expectations: As stated, not really much experience as a player so I expect DM to probably know how they'l want to run things and will probably ask questions to clarify what is and is not viable for random ideas. Character: If the limitation is human only, I have a somewhat idea for a Light domain cleric that I would like to try. I otherwise lean towards ranger, but might try something like wizard or artificer (if the artificer class would get an OK by the DM). Also would note that I am not exceptionally acquainted with the roll20 system or Dark Souls lore. I have found the Dark Souls games fascinating and looked at information about the lore in the past, but might not remember all the general details. I am also familiar with the rules of the 5e system.
I want in! I've been playing an RPG-Maker parody of Dark Souls the past couple of weeks, and it's really got me in that dark, gritty, souls  like mood. Already got a few ideas in my head brewing... But ah yes yes, let's get into the app. What I love about DnD: I just adore all of the  freedom  it provides. And I don't mean that in a "do what you want who cares?" kind of way. So many DMs have so many different styles, the different players all coming together -- so many ways to play. You know? Like, I myself am someone who never  tries to min-max, loving that risk of genuinely failing, but one of my friends is a hardcore min-maxing stat fan. So, we argue quite a bit out of characterwise, but that all gets pushed aside in the game, our characters interact, we get into shenanigans, it's a good time for everyone to have my chaos and his stability. The mix of ideals, that's what I love! Our freedom. God bless DND. What I expect from the DM:  Well, for this particular setting, I expect some not-so-happy endings, and possibly a bit of you are dead  messages. But I always felt that the Souls games weren't about winning or losing, but the struggle of souls . Even if it gets hard, even if it looks downright dumb, we will keep pushing and failing till we succeed. The DM must be patient, and let us earn our victories gracefully, but also be cruel rotten at times. Souls games are usually decayed worlds you know? I'm not saying "Be a jerk about it", but a little misery in the story can help build us up more. Character I'd play: Probably a Paladin or Rogue, likely going sun bro Solaire's Covenant.
