Ally Madison, Netrunner. Legally blind. It was detected that she could actually "see" somewhat while in cyberspace in a way she could not in her real life. A megacorp kidnapped her, strapped her to a bed, fed her tranquillizing drugs, and put her to work on their mainframe, but gave her virtual 3D vision of such resolution and quality that she got addicted to it.
The PCs were hired by a patron (relatives? a rival corporation? Take the money and ask no questions) to break into the particular facility where she was held and rescue her. Luckily it was a branch facility, a less secure run-down building than the megacorp's main pyramid. So they learn about the security features, real and virtual, learn to outwit them, everything is going well in the Extraction. The Netrunner "finds" Ally in cyberspace, as a stone statue, immobile, surrounded by chains radiating from her head. I came up with this years before dot.hack did it! The Netrunner can't interact with her, because she's drugged. The crew have to go physically to the hospital-bed where she is and cut off her IV. But there's just one problem...
...When Ally comes back to real-world consciousness, she's blind and doesn't want to leave. She herself sounds the alarm virtually , so they do manage to unhook her but it's a messy escape and an uncertain return to Ally back to a life she doesn't want.
I called that adventure, "Blind Alley".
