We're looking for at least one more player, maybe two. We currently have four. This is a long-term, narrative driven campaign in a homebrew world in which I am constantly working to expand. Here's some quick points before I launch into more detail: Long-Term campaign in a homebrew world Discord World anvil site for lore/background, and world map Zoom for audio/video (required, free for players) Bi-Weekly every other Saturday starting at 7PM ET. I stream on twitch, for fun. Character starts at level 7, some races, subraces, and classes are restricted. This is a generally 'good' aligned group. I like running campaigns for heroes, not villains. About the World Welcome to Beren'Dor, where magic - called nathr - is as much a part of this world as are its mountain ranges, forests, oceans, animals, and people. Nathr permeates everything and comes to many of its races as naturally as breathing. Yet those who are aware of the existence of nathr, and can both see and manipulate its weaving using the arcane arts are treated wildly different, depending upon where they call home. Some are hunted down and forced to serve - some little more than dogs in chains - while others see them as blessed by the gods, and highly respected. This world has a lot of depth and detail, much of which is provided on my world anvil site. If you are interested in playing I HIGHLY ENCOURAGE YOU to spend time reading through some of the material there, as it gives you a far better idea what this world is like beyond this brief description. This includes any special races or classes, or restricted races or classes. I also occasionally update the site as our players explore and learn more about the world around them. World Anvil Lore site: https://www.worldanvil.com/w/berendor-wraithkind About the DM (me): I've been a DM for over three years now, and I love it. While I was aware of D&D since I was a kid, I didn't really understand it too well until I found Critical Role (a group of nerdy voice actors playing D&D on twitch). When I got about halfway through the second episode if the first campaign, it finally 'clicked' for me. I enjoy the social aspect of D&D, and the collaborative storytelling. I enjoy giving your characters an opportunity to be heroic. I like to run a balanced game. This means that most sessions will have a little of both combat and role play, but that also means that some sessions will be nothing but combat, or nothing but role play. That said, I believe that my players shouldn't be there for just one thing. All my players should be willing and able to engage in both role play and combat equally. The spotlight is shared, but you must also be willing to insert yourself into the events unfolding around you! Character development is key to a good game. If D&D is interactive storytelling, then a player's character is the more personal narrative story that each player gets to tell - with my help! I like working with my players to build vivid and fun narratives for their characters, and journeys upon which they must embark. From finding a long lost sibling, to discovering who murdered your parents, these are the kinds of details that I like to explore for each character, as time and circumstance allows. This, of course requires a great deal of investment by the player into their character. In essence, I believe that you will get out of a character, and a campaign, exactly what you put into it, if not more. Last, but not least, I run LONG-TERM campaigns. My last campaign, set in the Forgotten Realms, lasted nearly two years (22 months, to be exact). My current campaign has seen its one year anniversary as of January 2020, and we all feel like we're just getting started. We don't rush through things, and we don't level up fast. We focus on story, adventures, and character driven narratives. Right now, I have a good core group, a majority of which have been playing together since my last campaign. If you are not interested in a long term campaign, then this is not a game for you, but if you want to meet a new group of potential friends, then please apply! Homebrew/Optional rules I use (not all) Players cannot choose the luck feat. Inspiration is granted occasionally by the DM for particularly inspirational play. It's a gift, not an expectation. Electrum and copper is not used as a currency. The currency exchange is: 100 silver = 1 gold; 10 gold = 1 platinum. This is a LOW MAGIC setting. What I mean by that is this: There aren't any magic academies in every large city, nor is the world dotted with wizard towers on every far horizon. Magic items are not typically sold off the store shelves (potions, sure...and MAYBE a few 'common' magic items now and again). Instead, the most powerful items are most often found during the course of your adventures, or perhaps researched and quested for. Likewise it is difficult to sell magic items, as finding the right buyer may be problematic. Most but rich and powerful cannot afford such a purchase! Of those who can, fewer still would be interested, depending on how they view Nathr. Wizards, however, can still create spells. Likewise, sorcerers may manifest unique abilities (custom spells, within reason). Various factions of those who can use Nathr may share knowledge and spells among themselves. In short, power must be earned, not purchased. The "Rule of Cool"; in most cases the DM will work with the player in an attempt to try something. That said, the more improbable that action may seem, the higher the DC will be, but if the player pulls it off, cool things ensue! We no longer use Unearthed Arcana experimental classes for this campaign. The only classes available are those provided in the PHB. Subclasses, or archetypes in Xanathar's is fine. Please try to keep the cussing to the minimum. In this regard, I ask that you be respectful of others. Not everyone may be okay with it. I understand using a word here or there (perhaps out of habit or exuberance), but if you're dropping the F-bomb every other sentence, we'll have a problem. Almost all playable races (listed on the world anvil site) has at least one additional magical ability. There are some additions/restrictions you should know about from the start: Tieflings are not playable Hill Dwarf subrace is not playable Hobgoblins (Volo's Guide to Monsters - called Thedar) are playable. Aasimar (Volo's Guide to Monsters) are playable. Goliaths are playable (Volo's Guide to Monsters - called Keldar) There are several custom human sub-races that are based on region. A custom race, the Yursida, is playable. They are a bear-like race that live along side the Goliath in the Nordurriki Empire. It's important to note that any restrictions are not a matter of the DM hating on these races or classes, but rather the fact that these things really don't fit into the world I've created. Or if they do, it's such a niche application that I would just rather not deal with trying to rationalize how it would be possible in terms of it being a player character. Player information Homebrew sandbox campaign We usually play bi-weekly, on Saturdays. 7PM ET - 11PM ET. We use a milestone-based progression system, which means your character levels up only when you hit certain milestones. Players are expected to make a reasonable effort to be present and on time. If a player cannot be present, it is expected you will at least make contact to inform the DM. If you miss too many sessions, you may be replaced. We use zoom for video/voice. Don't worry if you don't know how to use it. It's free for you, and I can teach you the basics, but Video/voice IS REQUIRED . If you cannot do this, please do not apply. I stream this campaign on twitch, and later upload these sessions to YouTube. I have done this for about three years. I do not have a large following. Most sessions we do not have any viewers. I do it because it is a hobby of mine - something I enjoy. If you do not wish to be streamed, please do not apply. Players new to roll20 are welcome, but PLEASE let me know that you are new to roll20 so I can teach you a few things! We have a discord server for chat. I also post the link for video/voice there for our sessions, so being able to use discord is kind of important. This campaign has started in January 2019, and still going strong! We have a good group that have become friends. We are looking for more friends! Current player classes: Rogue (Assassin), Paladin (oath of the ancients), Cleric (forge), Fighter (Eldritch Knight) We have a good group of players that range in age from mid-20's to the 50's, and so we have a wide range of experience and perspectives that are coming to the table. Over the years I have enjoyed this variety, and I wish to add to it, as different perspectives and ideas always make for interesting narratives in-game. IF you are still interested... I know this has been a long post, but thank you for hanging in there! If you are still interested in playing, please copy/paste the following questionnaire, answer the questions, and send me your reply via private message . *** IMPORTANT *** When you post, include the character name and class you are interested in playing in the subject line.
