Are you a forever DM or otherwise aged, wise, disappointed-by-humanity gamer that is tired of half-elf, half-tiefling druid-paladin-warlock characters and the kind of game they appear in? Join the club. Why don't we start a game then, one based on the OSR bones of D&D but with house rules to foster a darker, more dangerous, more properly "swords & sorcery" iteration of D&D? Here's a game pitch, then, and we can sort out the other details as more people chime in. A thousand thousand years ago, when the Celestial Wyrm last blazed across the sky spawning its cursed progeny across all creation, the world was sundered. The Witch Kings of the Seven Cities--uncontested rulers of the material world and blasphemers supreme--fought for supremacy in the wake of the Celestial Wyrm's passing, unleashing both mighty spells and summoned monstrosities in their arcane and profane wars. The earth cracked and the skies bled, and all that was touched by their sorceries was corrupted. Today the Seven Cities are no more. The Great Flowering saw new Cities established far from the forsaken lands of The Dust, and--By the Four!--the world is again blessed, anchored by the Eternal Resplendent Palaces of the Elementarchy: Aquila, Caelumnia, Ignisia, and Tellusia. For generations the world has been free of the stain of sorcery, the people living righteously and honorably under the Principles of Harmony as embodied in the worship of the Four That Are One. But the augurs now whisper darkly--and increasingly--of the imminent return of the Celestial Wyrm, for the Balance has been upset. Sons no longer obey their fathers; daughters no longer hearken to their mothers; and the people no longer worship truly. Everywhere can be seen and felt the presence of foul idolators and blasphemers who dare to openly voice their putrid thoughts. But you have other concerns! The Wraithwall has retreated for the second time in as many decades, a rare happenstance, and new lands lie ready for plundering! Like many other fortune seekers that have flocked to the border town of Beacon, your dream of joining the ranks of the Dustwalkers has been realized! Geared up and partnered with stalwart peers, you are ready to tread the bleached bones of the Seven Cities that Were and claim your share of the treasures and antiquities of a lost age.
