keeping an eye on things as a GM (seeing the player experience)

GM mode gives me a different view than the player - for example, fog of war. But I'd like to have a window open that does give me the player view. Can I create a 'ghost' player, or should I just create a ... pet cat that follows them around so I can have a "PC" open in a second window.
Well, you can select a token and press Ctrl+L, that will make you see though its eyes until you click the map again.
Note that sometimes Ctrl-L does not give a true view of what the player sees, but it can be good enough in most situations. I believe Ctrl-L only shows what the token sees based on its own light source but not external light sources. So, if another token is emitting light (say, another character carrying a torch), the player will see the area covered by the torch's light, but Ctrl-L will not.
