New user needs help

Hey all, with the pandemic forcing us all to keep away from each other, roll20 has become the saviour of sanity...at least we hope it will be. I have purchased the Fall of Plaguestone module and gotten started setting up for our first session. I have, however, encountered a couple of issues that I am hoping I am just not seeing the solution to because I have only been using roll20 for a little less than 2 days. Issue 1 - I have search for and watched youtube videos on linking tokens to character sheets and believe I have that down, however I am not able to see the radial bubbles on the tokens after having done so. Can someone explain how I (as GM) set these as visable? Issue 2 - related to above, I am not able to 'add turn' to any tokens on the map. This makes it impossible to use the initiative tracker. I suspect that this may be directly related to issue 1, but some help here would be appreciated. I can roll a characters initiative from the character sheet, but it doesn't add to the tracker. I am sure I will encounter other issues as I go, but these are the 2 that are keeping me up late tonight. any help would be greatly appreciated Dak

Issue 1: Here's some help on how to link tokens (pay special attention to setting default tokens). It sounds like you have those tokens on the Map layer (or possibly the Dynamic Lighting Layer). Make sure they are on the Object layer (where players can see them and interact with them if they have control of the character), or on the GM layer (where only the GM will see them and be able to interact with them. Issue 2: That definitely sounds like you have them on the Map layer. You can right click the token to get a menu and look at what layer they are on (and move them.

Some possibilities: Right click on a problem token, choose "Advanced" from the contextual menu and make sure "Is Drawing" is not checked. Make sure you are using a supported browser, Firefox of Chrome.
As I suspected, I had simply missed something and someone here was able to quickly explain what I needed to do to fix my problem. I thank you and my 6 players all thank you as well!

No problem! Definitely come back if you hit any more road blocks or just want to ask about anything! =D
Count on it. I have been resistant to playing online until forced to, but my experience with roll20 so far has been pretty good and the speed and clarity of the help you provided when I turned to the forums has only enhanced my initial impression. Thanks again. Now for some sleep, I have some gaming to do in the morning!

Cool. Oh, here's the link I managed to not include in my initial reply: https://wiki.roll20.net/Linking_Tokens_to_Journals
ok, I have discovered a new problem. we are getting ready to start and I am finding that they only see a black screen when I move them to the map page and I am unable to do anything with the monsters, except roll initiative.

Things to check: If you're using Dynamic Lighting Do their tokens have sight turned on Are there light sources (either the character tokens, or tokens on the map If you're using Fog of War have you revealed anything with the reveal tool? Token's light settings:

You probably want to be using Dynamic Lighting, so you would leave that off for the page. Then turn on has sight and some lights for players. Be sure once you have the light on the character how you want it that you set it back as the default token on the character again (You'll need to load the Character in the journal, click edit on the Bio and Info tab, remove the default token, then add the updated token as the new default token)
ok, I have done that (thanks again) but now the player can only see themselves, and not the map underneath their token

That probably means they have sight, but don't have a light source:

It could also be that you have Advanced Fog of War on, but not Dynamic Lighting On in the page settings. (I'd honestly suggest avoiding Advanced Fog of War initially. it's quirky and slow, and getting replaced in the next few months...)
ok, I think I have it now! thank you so much for your help!!

No problem!
Quick update - my technical issues appear to be sorted out (for now) and the first session was a rousing success! Thanks for all your help, it was very clear and easy to understand, plus it solved my issues quickly.
