[LFG] Edition: 3.5 - Timezone GMT - Experience: Relatively new

Edit :: I think we are full! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hello, I'm Alex, 25 years old and I live in England. I've played 3e/3.5e in the past when I was a teenager but not recently. I played a thief character with a group of friends, and I also tried my bit at being a DM with my siblings. I've got to say that I preferred being a PC as opposed to a DM. I own the 3.5e Player's Handbook and Dungeon Masters Guide and 3e Monster Manual I & II. I even have a load of dice. These days, however, I'm hard pressed to find people willing to play with in real life. Hopefully this is where you all come in! I recently started playing Baldur's Gate again, and subsequently caught the D&D bug. I started listening to CriticalHit podcast and watch 'ItMeJP' stream his weekly sessions over on Twitch, all the time thinking "Why don't I just find a group to play with?" My nearest 'local hobby store' for D&D is actually not so local. I haven't tried asking in Games Workshop yet, but when I saw this website I thought I'd ask here! I can play most evenings after 6pm, and I can make time on the weekends. I have a microphone. I have a webcam. I have Skype and various other means of contact. I want to play some D&D! The only drawback is that I would ideally want to play as a bard. :) Play times can be discussed of course, but a weekly session would be awesome. Thanks for reading my post, please feel free to get in touch! hi alex, mebbe we can get a whole group together,I'm GMT too, also new,but wanting to play 3.5 as I have the books.
Hi Ben, Sounds like a plan! Hopefully a few more people will show some interest too! I suppose we need a DM and a few other PCs. I might advertise on http://www.reddit.com/r/lfg too, if we can't make the numbers on this forum :)
All sounds brilliant, don't forgot /r/roll20lfg too,I lurk, but never post.what day you thinking?normally, tues, weds or thurs works best, but im away this thurs for a short holiday.
Didn't know about /r/roll20LFG! Thanks :) I've made a post there for now, I might xpost it to LFG later on. I'm pretty flexible with times generally :) I'm currently doing a masters degree, so I can move around my study time depending on what is going on - but Tuesday-Thursday evenings are generally best. We can arrange a time slot when we get a few more people interested I guess! :D
I'm up for that. 28 and from the UK as well. Never played before but after watching the Roleplay series by JP i've been getting increasingly interested to the point where im now actively looking for a group to play with.
I would also be highly interested in joining your group, I'm in the UK aswell! :D
I have been looking for a GMT group for ages! I am interested. I can do Mon - Thurs any time of the day.
Oh wow that's fantastic! I didn't really expect to get so many replies so quickly. Is anyone willing to be the Dungeon Master? Or do we still have to find one? I think 5 player characters is at the upper limit, so as soon as we get a DM (possibly the hardest part) we should be set! Interested Alex A. (PC) Ben L. (PC) Luke B. (PC) Paul L. (PC?) Arann M. (PC?)
PC only for now, due to my noobishness of 3.5, the last time I played was 2nd Ed when I was young!
We're 2 Scandinavian (GMT+1) players in this thread that are looking for a game, though we're more interested in Pathfinder.
Yeah PC for me. Think i would need a fair few games under my belt before i could try DMing.
Hey Erik, GMT+1 shouldn't be an issue, and I've heard Pathfinder is essentially D&D3.75 (a further revision of 3.5), though I haven't read the books. So that all should be fine. I guess the main issue at this point is group size. I've only played in groups of 2-4 Player Characters and one DM, I'm not sure how fluid everything would run with more people. I read your thread, and you seem to have DM experience, but not so much interested in taking up the role again? What is your opinion on a group size of 5-6 player characters? :)
http://www.reddit.com/r/roll20LFG/comments/1a3dao/lfg_edition_35_timezone_gmt_experience_relatively/c8tra1z Alex A. (PC) Ben L. (PC) Luke B. (PC) Paul L. (PC?) Arann M. (PC?) Assuming all the above are PCs, would everyone be okay in playing Pathfinder instead of 3.5? From what I've heard, they are very similar, but PF addresses some issues with 3.5 . If everyone here is okay with playing Pathfinder, and I've made sure that Raviede is okay to DM/GM relatively inexperience players, then we can go ahead and start to set up times and means of contact!
Edit : Great, seems you found a GM! I am interested in playing too, if the days and times work for me. I realize that I'm the last to report interest, so you guys have priority. Perhaps I can be first reserve? I'd prefer not to DM, but I might give in with enough pressure and time to think about it (not sure if I have enough free time to be DM). Anyway, my comfort zone is GM + 3-4 players (both as DM and player). Never tried virtual tabletop before, so I don't know how that affects things. Pathfinder is very similar to 3.5, and I prefer it over 3.5 for several reasons - maybe the most important being that nearly every rule, feat, spell, class etc published are available legally for free at http://www.d20pfsrd.com/. In any case, the only day of the week that I'm regularly free is Sunday (could manage tuesday or thursday, but only like 2/3 weeks)
I'll ask Raviede if he is comfortable with 6 PCs, I agree the DM/GM has the most work to do, so it should really be up to them to set the player limit :) If the number is too large, then I'll keep you as first reserve for sure!
I am looking to play as a PC, sorry i didnt message earlier xD
So to keep you all updated; I'd like to go ahead with the following group: Alex A. (PC) Ben L. (PC) Luke B. (PC) Paul L. (PC) Arann M. (PC) Erik H (PC) Raviede (Dungeon/Game Master) That's six player characters and one dungeon master. Raviede said he is okay to DM/GM 6PCs, but would prefer to use Pathfinder as the ruleset. I'm personally happy using Pathfinder, as mentioned earlier in this thread, it is very similar to 3,5e. Before going ahead with this, can I first make sure that everyone is happy with using Pathfinder instead of 3.5e? :) Alex A. (PC) - Fine with PF Ben L. (PC) - Fine with PF Luke B. (PC) - Fine with PF Paul L. (PC) - Fine with PF Arann M. (PC) Erik H (PC) - Fine with PF Raviede (Dungeon/Game Master) - PF
Yeah totally, turns out of ive been using that path finder site this whole time for looking up rules and guide lines so I'm good haha!
Yeah PF is fine by me :)
Sounds good to mea
Sounds like we have got ourselves a group! Hopefully Arann replies, but either way we should have ourselves a group! I'll send you all a private message later today with my email so that we can all arrange a time slot to start playing! :)
Hey, Thanks for responding to my thread on getting a game started. Now that we have all our PCs and a GM let's get a timeslot! I guess its easier to talk about it here so that everyone can see it easily. As far as days/times; Alex Monday - Thursday from 6pm onwards. Ben Tuesday - Thursday. Erik Sundays preferred, Tuesdays or Thursdays Luke ? Paul ? Arann (Hasn't replied to the thread in a while) Raviede (DM) ? Raviede, can I ask that you create a campaign page on Roll20 and give us the link so that we can all join it? :) Everyone else, I suppose whilst we wait for a date and time to be set, we should talk about what class everyone wants to play! :)
Ok so i can play all week from 7pm GMT onwards or any time during the day on Friday or Saturday. Can work anything else i have going around this. As for class.... I don't know really, maybe an Arctic Elf Ranger? Anyway i just bought Sim City so i might disapear for a day or two :P
I have loads of character ideas - 2 different rogues (ranged and melee), 2 different sorcerers (storm-themed or shadow-themed), summoner (synthesist, a summoner vairant), oracle, ranger, magus, witch and so on. I have and idea for every role, though right now I would prefer rogue or synthesist.
Hi all! Raviede (the DM) here. My availability is anything after 6PM EST every day, and I'm totally up for weekly if we wanted to do that. (I say that now, but we'll have to see if it gets to me haha.) A few things I will comment on: 6 players is fine with me. You can play any class you want, and I'll do my best to work it so that everyone can shine and not be insta-killed. (Although I would prefer if you have at least one person who's relatively tanky, but I can work around if it you're 6 bards for some reason.) Here's the link to the campaign page (which hasn't been edited, just threw it up to have it for now): https://app.roll20.net/campaigns/details/94782/end-of-an-era Not sure if I have to invite you or if you can request to join. Finally, if you tl;dr this, answer this for me: What are you looking for in a campaign? (Examples: Lots of combat, lots of storyline, comedy, seriousness, a mixture, or surprise me.) What are you against in campaigns? (Examples: The bad guy always getting away in the nick of time, invincible Big Bad Evils [BBE], cliches in general? I won't use these examples necessarily, but if there's stuff that you hate, let me know.)
6pm EST = 11pm GMT.... In which case we would have to limit how long we play or alternatively play around Thursday nights / Friday nights for me (Friday and Saturday are my weekends). Would probably suggest shying away from Friday nights as i frequently meet up with friends / get drunk on a Friday. I don't mind staying up until 1am GMT most nights..... possibly a little later but I like many others have work the following day :P Good to meet you James. I'm happy with almost anything campaign wise seeing as this would be my first experience with the game. Comedy i would put ahead of other things though :P. That link doesn't work for me btw, I get "access denied". Will have a look for it manually in a second though. Any suggested reading I should look at before we do this? BTW I don't own a webcam (never felt the need) but i could certainly get one next month. That alright?
Hi Luke, I sent you a private message here with a link that should actually work. As for the time, those times for me were for weekdays, as I was thinking with what people have posted we would do Thursdays. I can possibly work around something else, but we'll have to see. EDIT: And I don't think the webcam would be a requirement. The way I have my laptop set up, I wouldn't be able to use mine anyways. (Although I'd still be on Skype.)
What are you looking for in a campaign? Initially, a goal to seemingly work towards to give some achievement I suppose! :) At the end of the day I'm looking forward to having some fun, I'm pretty easy with how the whole adventure is paced. A mix of story and combat would be cool, and a lot of fun I think! I don't mind if the stories are cliches! What are you against in campaigns? Back in the past my (inexperienced) DM put us in some situations where we couldn't escape an encounter where the party was a clear underdog - It ended up with people dying and the players just being left frustrated. I'm not against BBEs as such, but I don't think I have ever successfully finished a campaign. :) Times Like Luke, I can stay up until 1am most nights, which gives us a 2hour time slot most days. Might be a problem for Erik as he is GMT+1.
Yeah, starting at midnight is way to late for me over here at GMT+1. Plus, I prefer sessions that are 3-4 hours. As for what I look for in a campaign: Balance of roleplaying, story and combat. Prefer roleplaying and character building. Likes when it feels like my character actually belongs in the world. A DM that works with the players to give them opportunity to shine and achieve their personal goals. DMs that use character background stories. What I'm against: Combat for combat's sake. Antagonistic DM. Really overt railroading. I hope that we'll find a time that works for me, but if James is at EST, that will be really tough.
I'm CST actually, but I was just posting in EST because I thought I had seen it mentioned somewhere that the majority of you were EST. I can do earlier times on the weekends, but that would be about it :(
What are you looking for in a campaign? I'd love comedy, with essence of team work, but splitting the party up for certain things would be awesome! What are you against in campaigns? Thi will be one of my first times so surprise me :D Times I can stay up till 3 or 4 am most nights, and im good for anything past 6pm on the weekdays and any time on the weekends!
Again, starting at 11pm GMT is asking for trouble over here in Blighty on a weekday, I'm up for work @ 5:45, so that's just too late for me. Weekends aren't something I can commit too, as a one-off, sure, but I wouldn't want to say yes and then not be able to fulfill my end of the bargain. If times do change though... What are you looking for in a campaign? Storylines and BBEs for me What are you against in campaigns? Whole playsessions of chatting. See the last Critical Hit podcast, 90 minutes, and nothing happened! Playtimes? Tues-Thurs from 7PM GMT-11 GMT And no James, we can't see the campaign unless invited.
I think I've sent everyone who has replied since I have posted in the topic. At work right now myself, so will discuss further the time issue when I get a chance.
Hey guys, Are you still looking for players?
